Ethiopian Review’s Person of the Year in 2008

Ethiopian Review’s 2008 Person of the Year will be announced on January 1, 2009. The decision has been made after taking readers’ suggestions into careful considerations. Stay tuned.

In keeping with its annual tradition, Ethiopian Review will soon announce The 2008 Person of the Year. Last year, we left it to readers to make the choice, and you chose Prof. Alemayehu Gebremariam.

This year the decision will be made by the Ethiopian Review editorial group, but we would like to hear your suggestions.

The selection is based on who made the most significant contribution for the betterment of Ethiopia in the past 12 months.

We accept nominations and suggestions. Please include explanations for your selection.

  3. Eritrea’s leader, Esayas Afewerki, should be the Ethiopian Review Person of the year.

    Yes it is true that he is leader of Eritrea but everyone knows that his mother and father are Ethiopians.

    Esayas has demonstrated his mother and father land by supporting organizations against Woyane. (OLF,ONLF,EPPF,Gnbot 7)

    The winner is the Eritrean President Isayas Afewerki.

  10. I nominate our brother (to some of us our father)Ato Isayas of Eritrea for being just him. I am convinced he sees us as part of him. It would have been easier for him to not support any of the opposition fighters to appease Jendayi Frazer, but, a principled man that he is, he put his neck on the line in spite of all the threat from US and all its sattelite states. Look, even Djibouti got on the act, no doubt, at the command of foreign powers!

    I can see how he is concerned about his country from the establishment of EDP. Workrd hard to make backdround of peaceful struggle.
    Eventhough those who want to satisfay their power hanger tried to kill him by defaming ,he will be a leader of Ethiopa once . His thouhts are similar to Obama.
    Those who smeard him and other founders of EDP could’t present any fact after their releasre from Kaliti.
    It was simpily joulsity .He warned every ”leader of kinijit”not to be traped in woyane trap.They were blind of power hunger and the result is only demonstation and struggle for their releasr instesd of for ethiopian people as a whole.

  18. I suggest Ethiopian Review Intelligence Unit as the person of the year, for the reason that ERIU has done a marvelous job. For instance, it revealed a range of intelligence information KGB, CIA and Mossad botched to probe.

  29. Ato Yewarkaw Mengistu,Ato Samson (Abraraw) and Ato Welalye can be named persons of the year or the decade.
    Their bullets have killed thousands of Weyanes and their messages of anger and hope have healed numorous poor ethiopians betrayed by the so called Kinijit Leaders.

    For the people who are chosing President Issayas- wish u could justifay for me ur choice. A person who impresions inoccent people because of their religion and differences is not a qality qualifies for the person of the year choice. Weather we are Ethiopians and Eriterians – we are equally suffering because of bad leadership and lack of democracy. Lets agree on thet.

The old saying of “my enemy’s enemy is my friend” doesn’t work here. He is personally responsible for the dismantle and the disastrous crime of the weyane tugs.     The most important thing is the person of the should be a man/woman who has a proven ablity to unite Ethiopians of all walks of life.And above all a person with highest integrity and capacity to bring many people together eg. Ethiopians and Eritreans or Ethiopians and Somilis or Ethiopians and Sudanese …etc. and who works tirelessly for cooperation and fraternity among nations with an ultimate goal to bring lasting peace and stability in our region.

    For giving the Somalis a political space to wage their liberation and reconstituting drive at a great political cost to him and his nation.

  40. Now, that we are able to see the true colours of the CUD turncoats, and conclude that the erroneous belief in a peaceful struggle in the Woyanne land is pure madness, the logical choice for ER’s person of the year is the Eritrean President Isayas Afewerki.

    A dual approach is required to confront the Woyannes. A military and political struggle is the way to go and this can be accomplished if cooperate with our Eritrea neighbours. We have to follow the Woyanne playbook, if we want to beat the Woyanne’s at their own game.

  48. Some of you who are nominating Isayas Afeworki and Meles Zenawi I have a word for you. Don’t try to make the thread nonsense. You know who these guys are and you know we are here to discuss ways to get the horn rid off these tyrants. You can name them worst persons of the century.
