According to the 1976 TPLF Manifesto, the map of Tigray will look like this if Woyanne succeeds. Note that the Tigray border stretches to Red Sea. That may explain:

1) why Tigrean elites — even those who hate Meles — have soft spots in their hearts for Woyanne, and

2) they are obsessed with Eritrea, currently the only power in the Horn of Africa region that is capable of preventing the manifesto from becoming a reality.

I think you have made some thing wrong the kingdom of Tigray has to strech upto the tip of eritrea, to Alewuha of wolo and up to Zarema of Gonder why are you confining to such a narrow area this is a historical fact that should not be distorted and it will become real whether you accept it or not.

    Thanks for raising this issue. I have seen this map in several occasions in different sources. I wish people don’t blame you, saying, you invented this evil map. However, I would think the same way if Tigrian people don’t claim like other EthiopianS the right of ethiopian people to have access to red sea because Ethiopia deserve to have it. It is also fair for 80 millions people to have access to the red sea coast for its historical link to it.

    Since Minilik time several thousands Ethiopians died for Ethiopian sovereignty over ASSAB port and those lost life was to keep ASSAB as Ethiopian territory and shouldn’t be in vane.

    Assab should be the essential issue in every single Ethiopian daily life on which we have to battle. We have been told there are various alternative ports. We are already making use of these alternative ports. In using these alternative ports, we have lost millions of dollars. But by our not using Assab port, the Eritrean government has lost considerable income. So our use of Assab port, as long as this is undertaken according to international law or by force, is not something that we seek by submitting an application. So that we should raise the issue during every single opportunity we (Ethiopian) have in any scenarios of discussion and negotiation.

    I would like to call to every single ethiopian in especial Tigrians sisters and brothers to never stop rising you voice to claim the ethipianism of ASSAB port and its habitant for the sake of those thousands Ethiopian died since Minilik time.

    I am desperate to see the day a patriot Ethiopian prime minister occupying Minilik Betemengist. I guess I will see that occasion before I die. Otherwise, I know my children will inherit my straggle to recover Ethiopian historical port of ASSAB.

  6. What is surprising is not just that the Woyane’s dreamt of greater regional national state for which they died and killed for many years. But what is completely contradictory is why they failed to recognize the demands, the urges of the bulk of Ethiopian people for access to the sea and argue rather against public emotions. But still, it was when they were not even EPRDF, it was when they were bunch of locals. Do they have the same imagination today? Can they survive without the rest of Ethiopia? Can their land produce anything to feed them even for a season? Can they survive the power of the Shabians alone? I think, they are now well aware of the fact that if they dare, Shabians immediately roll over them from the mountains of Hamasien and Akaleguzai..kkkkkkk….

  9. Meles Zenawi claims to protect and represent all Tigre speakers including those living in hs entity known as Eritrea. As an ethno-fascist and Tigre nationalist, Meles Zenawi does not care about the rest of Ethiopia. He says that Ethiopia is a recent creation of the Amharas (100 years old) and the obelisks of Axum are nothing to any Ethiopian in the south of the country. Like the nazi leader, Adolf Hiltler, Meles Zenawi has said that he is proud of being a tigrean and belonging to this golden and superior ethnic group. There is no doubt that the great majority of the Tigres (on both sides of the Mereb river) subscribe to his ethnicist (racist) ideology and support him. They are ready to sacrifice their lives for their supreme ethnic warlord, Meles Zenawi and keep the rest of Ethiopia under perpetual opprssion and poverty. Then, what are the rest of Ethiopians doing to liberate themselves from ethno-fascism and rescue their country? There should be awareness of this kind (this reality) among Ethiopians and the genuine opposition should mobilize the population to get rid of fascism. Ethiopians should not support any opposition working to accomodate fascism and submit to it. Instead we should stand with and support the genuine opposition fighting and struggling against this human scourge. It is becoming clear where Birtkun and co. are standing as regards this issue. They seem to be preparing to escort the ethno-fascists through taking part in another round of the coronation of the ethno-fascist, Meles Zenawi. The bogus elections are meant to serve as cyclical processed of coronation and legitimazing ethno-fascism in Ethiopia. They call it a democratic process and we call it a cyclical process of recrowning Meles Zenawi.

  13. The former province of Tigre has no geographical boundary line with the Sudan. It was the dream of Woyanes to steal land from neighboring provinces of Begender-Semien & Wollo.

    They took it by force after they had consolidated power in Addis Abeba. Many people had resisted to reinstate their territories. The resistance is still continuing. One day this will be returned to the owners.It is a matter of time.
    In fact the Woyaes came to power by the help of West Gondar and north Wollo fighter peasantries. The peasantries of those areas have contributed a lot for the demise of Derg. They were the vanguards of the whole armed resistance beside the Woyane Harnet Ginbar.

    In order to bring about a modern and free democratic state of Ethiopia the people of North Wollo and West Gondar have sacrificed their life. But the Betrayers(Woyanes)did not allow them to share the fruit of the resistance.
    In spite of all this contribution the Woyanes betrayed the combatants and marginalised them.
    Wait! for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

    Generally speaking the Woyanes used the fighters of those areas as a tool to embark on power.

    The Woyanes have reached their peak up to mid of 2005. Thereafter their power is slipping away for they are ignorant of civilized administrtion plus freedom.
    They are simply”Netsanet yemayawqu netsa awchiwoch”.

    Sooner or later, that is the solution to the Horn problem. But, then The Greater Tigray will continue to be the heart of the Greater Ethiopia and of course the greater horn. So, no matter what, that’s going to happen!

When you visit the ideology of TPLF, it is parallel to Alula Aba Nega and Atse Yohanes. It doesnt surprise me to see the map.     Do you really think this as something credible? Sure few narrow minded TPLF cadres might have had some out of touch dreams and hallucinations during the struggle. They fully know that Tigrians will allways be Ethiopians since they are parcel and paramount in forming the empire of Ethiopia. Power struggle among the Ethiopian ethinics has been around for thousands of years and that has been the norm through out our glorious history, however, nationalsim is what held the country firmly unified. However, what ever that purpose might had been if it was intended for post Derg regime, it may have out used its purpose since the reality in the ground changed dramatically. EPRDF suddenly became the guarian of the state of Ethiopia and had full responsibility in maintaining the state in peace and security. TPLF invested heavily billions of dollars in the state of Oromia, Amhara and in the state of south and southern people. Just because there was some hula bula communist manifesto jotted down in the jungle by few TPLF cadres, does not mean anything if the reality in the ground is different. When the situation changes you have to be up for a change otherwise you might be swept up by the blowing change. Look even Sudan is heading towards to unknown destiny just by the events that took place with in the past 24 hours. What do you think will happen if infact Alibeshir is indicted and arrested? things might head into the situation like that of Somalia. Now, think of the what ever agreement Meles and Alibeshir might have had regarding any thing about greater Tigrai, if there is such a thing ofcourse? don’t you think such goal is in jeapordy? and needed rethinking by the TPLF? and couldn’t it just be another manifesto that may never materliaze? think rationaly please.

  26. Elias, Eritreans are not like Gonderians and Wolloyes (or you can call them Amharas). They will fight for their land and they will fight hard. More than anything else, they know woyane very well. The woyanes are now creating the fact on the ground in the conficicated lands of Amhara in Gonder and Wollo. They settled their people, killed prominent individuals in the area, raped their girls to give birth to a woyane, and forced their kids to learn tigrigna. This cannot happen in Eritrea!!! I would say that both Ethiopians and Eritreans are proud. But, I think, Eritreans are more proud. They cannot stand that kind of humilliation.

  28. Tigray is part of Ethiopian and it will remain Ethiopian. If the extremists or/and TPLF like it or not. However, TPLF never has been for Tigray as their name indicates. If they were for Tigreay:

    1. Wouldn’t have killed many Tigreans during the “struggle” time and now.
    2. They wouldn’t have destroyed Ethiopia the same country Ancestors of Tigreans died for. Example, Ezana, Kaleb, Yohanes, Alula…etc
    3. Tigreans benefit from unity of Ethiopia not from disintegration, which is what the Woyanes are doing.
    4. They shouldn’t have signed and begged UN the secession of Eritrea
    and when Meles was asked by Mr. Cohen that Ethiopia needs access to the sea meles’s respond was “no that is Eritrean. We don’t need it”
    5. Even TPLF Tagays were killed because they oppose the independence of Eritrea and this is documented. They tried to convince the Tigrean people that Eritrea is a colony of Ethiopia. However, almost all Tigreans opposed it. It was implemented against the wish of the Ethiopian people.
    6. Woyane is working day and night to rally other Ethiopians against Tigrean people so that they will claim later that “we tried to be one, but you see they (other Ethiopians) don’t like us. Thus, we should be independent”
    If they were for the people of Tigray as their name (TPLF) indicates they would have worked for peace amongst the Ethiopian people. They are planting time bombs against Ethiopian in general and Tigreans in particular.

    These are just few examples.

    All their deeds are against Tigrean Interest in particular and all of us Ethiopians in general, thus this group is a MAFFIA group and the only interest they have themselves and immediate family.

  33. Why do you want to have Eritrea back? Remember it is country of its own that will be sustained by its people. The country has people that will work day and night to enure its development, growth and true political independence. So my friends in any year from now think about Eritrea that will be a peaceful neighbor to Ethiopia, with comparative advantage for a productive exchange — like the ports and its to be booming industrial products etc. Never think of it coming back to Ethiopia and return to silent ‘colony’.

Firstly, Eritrea is legally a sovereign country PERIOD! Secondly, the Eritreans are very proud people that they are always ready to defend their country and should some benign forces initiates some hostility in the name of “Greater Tigray” or “Ethiopia tikdem” philosophy, it is sure to be a no starter. But, it would prolong the suffering of our people and undo the healing process that we all should aim for. Frankly, I am sick and tired by some of the Weyane supporters that usually come under some Oromo pen name to make us believe that the Weyane thugs are supported by other Ethiopians outside of their power base of Tigrai. That is a fallacy only those types of writers are willing to entertain.
    Finally, why don’t you people stop accusing Elias for siding on the side of truth by calling him all sorts of names? I see Elias as an Ethiopian who cares about his country, Ethiopia and has the farsightedness to realize the benefits of working with the neighboring countries and especially Eritrea. That is a pragmatic approach that should be supported and encourages by many Ethiopians if they indeed care about the welfare of their country. Short of that to call him “Eritrean” doesn’t prove anything. He could be an Eritrean and I do see anything wrong with that. But, there are no persons who claim to know his offing of an individual MORE than himself. In many AV interviews he held, he always said he was Ethiopian. What is this crap that “You are Eritrean” “your mother is Eritrean” coming from the confused and inferiority infested Weyane supporters?     Prof Mesfin hypnotizes nationalist Ethiopians by preaching peaceful struggle. He advise us not die fighting Weyane. But we never heard of him saying “don’t die for Weyane”.

    By the time peaceful struggle takes root, Ogaden Gambela and Oromia are gone. Half of the job is already done by Weyane for those liberation fronts. The young liberation fighters are well prepared mentally for fatal blow to Ethiopian empire. Great Tigray is just a dream. That dream is slowly but surely is changing into nightmare by other dreamers like Somalis, Oromos and other liberation fighters.

  46. this greater tigray was not started by weyane. in the 50’s and 60’s some eritreans thought that the aksumite kingdom was mainly in eritrea and tigray and tigrigna speakers were dominant powers for long time untill the death of atse yohannes. and they brought the idea of TIGRAY-TIGRIGNI. That didn’t find success in eritrea but in tigray. tigray like weyane believed in tigrigna speakers supremacy and thought to create GREATER TIGRAY that includes eritrean tigrigna speakers and the red sea. But then the weyane were weak military and need help from shabiya. and shabiya warned them that this can never happen. So they changed their struggle for tigray people freedom. But this dream of ABAY(GREATER) TIGRAY remained in the DREAM OF WOYANE and sometimes surfaces. I can say some ethiopians really don’t understand about shabya and woyanne. The problems of today in the horn of africa are due to the relation between shabiya and woyanne. some ethiopians don’t care to understand who are shabiya and woyanne, they just want ASSAB back.

    I don’t want to add too much to what Weqaw has stated to your baseless and chauvinistic statements about Eritrea. He said it quite eloquently. I just want to remind you though that Eritrea, despite the obstacles created by you and your likes, is moving forward. You’ve shown us your hatered in 1998 when you falsely accused Eritrea of invading Ethiopian land and waged a devastating war and deported thousands of Eritreans and Ethiopians of Eritrean origin in a most inhumane way possible. Mind you, most of the deportees were women either too young or too old to pose any threat to Ethiopia’s security. This is a clear indication as to how much hatred the TPLF and it’s supporters have towards Eritreans.
    Interestingly, ye tigray lij, instead of appologizing and correcting your past mistakes, you’re still agitating Ethiopians to fight your war. A war to establish “Abay Tegry” by destroying Eritrea. Keep on Dreaming for Eritreans are looking beyond that and working to establish an uncorrputed and self reliant nation.
    Ethiopian people will no longer be fooled by your sugar-coated evil agenda that will benefit no one, not even the people of Tigray.

  48. TPLF knows it will all be over when it decides to take axum from the Ethiopian people. It will be over for amdam TPLF and amdam shabias soon any ways. ETHIOPIA will be one again from the semain mountains to the ogaden deserts. ONE ETHIOPIA

  50. There is a positive thing in it.
    I hope we one day we will see Greater Tigray kuhuleity encompassing all its people from all areas(Adi Arqay,Wolqait,Indaselassie,Temben, Raya,Enderta, Agame,Mendefera,Asmara,Keren,Batsi’e, A’sseb and all the neighbourhoods)within Greatest Ethiopia.
    To have a Greatest Ethiopia, it is a must to have a Greater Tigray. So, I am not able to see anything wrong in the downsized map.
