Birtukan and Abayneh to meet on Monday

Ato Hailu Shawel’s personal “envoy” in Addis Ababa Ato Abayneh Berhanu has invited Vice chairperson of Kinijit Wzt. Bertukan Mideksa for a secret meeting on Monday. It is reported that Wzt. Birtukan has accepted the invitation. Ato Abayneh decided to meet with Wzt. Birtukan after several of the delegates he had sent to various regions of Ethiopia came back last week and told him that the people are strongly opposed to Hailu Shawel’s dictatorial actions and the effort to regroup his former party, AEUP. Both sides have denied that there will be such a meeting on Monday.. Read more by zikkir News Service >>.

  1. Get rid off Hailu Shawel! We have had enough of him; however, if he publicly confesses all the frictions he has created among Kinijit members, then we may accept him not as a chairperson but as one of Kinijit’s members.

  2. If it is true, it is good news to millions of Ethiopians who are struggling to change the country for better. It is good news for those who work hard to bring about freedom, justice and democracy for the Ethiopian people. It is good news to the ears of all freedom fighters, inside or outside Ethiopia. It is a victory not only for the CUD and its supporters but also to all the Ethiopian people including those who oppose it. It is not a victory for this or that side of the aisle but it is a victory for the rule of law because if a party cannot uphold its own bylaw, it will never uphold the laws of the land it is aspiring to rule. Parties are free to write their own programs and bylaws. Looking at their programs and bylaws people support or oppose them. But once they make their own bylaws, they have to uphold them through thin and thick, no matter what. If they do not uphold their own bylaws, how would one, except the fools and minions, expect them to uphold a constitution of the country. Therefore, this news heralds nothing but a triumph of the rule of law in Ethiopia, may be, I would guess, one of the very few of its kind in the political history of that country. The message of the Ethiopian people, both inside the country and the diaspora, got across and has been heard. Thank you all who made this good news possible. It marks the beginning of a new era in the Ethiopian politics and tells everybody in no uncertain term that no one or group is above the law even if it is a party bylaw no matter what ones past contributions were. We are judged by what we do now about the future and the past is just our trackrecord and is not a license to ruin the future. Hopefully other political parties will learn a great lesson from this and follow sweet if they choose to exist as a party and be part of the future Ethiopia where the rights of all its citizens are respected and where freedom, justice, democracy and prosperity flourishes. The Ethiopian people have shown how matured they are and how far we have come along and it up to the political parties to come to terms with the present reality of Ethiopia as Ato Hailu’s group, as per this news, appears to be doing albeit belatedly. It is never late to learn from one’s mistake and better late than never. It is never too late to do the right thing although it takes tremendous courage to do the right thing and I would like to say to Ato Hailu’s group – WELCOME HOME.

  3. I suggest we wait patiently for the outcome of the meeting. Monday is only three days away. In the mean time, we should be careful not to give inflammatory remarks that can provoke either side. If true, their reconciliation will be an all-win situation and amounts to the restoration of the democratic movement in full force.

The critical role falls on the media at this time of extreme sensitivity.

  4. This is the most positive news I heard in over than six months. No matter what the outcome would be, talking to each other under this curcumistances is a sign of civilty for the oppostion. Biretukan and Abayneh need each others support and there is no a better challenge to the notorious TPLF/EPRDF than a united CUD/kinijit.

  5. Ato Abayneh called this report as “berre wolde” report on a telephone interview with Paltalk Diaspora discussion form ( Friday 08:45 P.M. GMT)
He said there was no approach nor there be a meeting with W/t Birtukan on Monday
Dear Elias, how about confirming the news before posting it one your website?

  6. Thank you Mr. Assta B. Gettu for your thoughts that reflect the millions of Ethiopians that Hailu
Shwel’s time is over. May I also add that he brought the curse upon himself.

  7. Hailu Shawel failled miserabley, both at home and outside Ethiopia. He lost the capacity to reason, sort-out what is true and not true, before even thinking Knijit Leaders. He appointed Abayneh, Taye etc., like Haile selassie did when he was alive. A feudal like mentality and dictatorship. Now, when he saw that Ethiopians in diaspora rejected him, and that of Abayneh’s deligates have been rejected wherever they went to in Ethiopia, he started to coin thru Abayneh, may be a let us get together. He was, Hailu, you declared the suspension of Knijit leaders, contrary to the by-law of Knijit itself. You may call me rediculeous, but why Abayneh wants to have a meeting with Birtukan? Did he not the one who ordered his gate-men not to allow in and use Knijit’s office. Why change of heart now? Birtukan should be smart enough not be used by a defuct. Whatever the outcome could be, first and foremost Hailu has to resign or has to go. Taye without any reservation has to go (let him go back to EPRP). All those involved in dividing Knijit, the so-called KIC must cease to exist. The stolen money of Knijit by Shaleka and group must be returned by to its legal owner. I hope, Hailu and his tails can no longer lie to the Ethiopian people, Time is up for feudalist, anarchist and self-imposed kings.

  8. Well, my advise to Birtukan is ‘trust him’ not! The old guards may have a plan to widen the split and they may use this oppourtunity to inflict further blow to the sprit of Kingit. Let Abayeneh persue with his origional idea of APCO or OPCO? and let Kingit go the Ethiopian way!

  9. “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

I fully support the need for compromise and reconciliation. But my trust level for Eng Hailu’s camp is very low and I do not expect anything good from this new manoeuvre of Eng Hailu. Our true leaders need to listen to what others have to say. But they should not rush to embrace this group since it decided to join them after failing to beat them in public opinion. Can we trust Eng Hailu and those around him after what they have done to kill Kinijit? I do not but I will be happy to be proven wrong.

I sincerely hope that Kinijit will not ask its supporters to accept leadership from individuals who have proved themselves to be devoid of any leadership and decent human quality.

I hope that Weizerit Bertukan and her colleagues will save us all from the shame of being fooled again by some incompetent pretenders.

  10. My sources tell me Hailu ordered abayneh to make the call because he saw the light in Seattle,Atlanta and Minneapolis
The diaspora rejected him, his cronies, his akataris and his achebchabis along with their politics of stupidity. He is acutely aware of his utter failure here in the diaspora. all the king’s men and all the king’s chiqashums could not save Hailu. He is desperate not to lose at home too. hence the rush to cling to Bertukan.

  11. Selam Bogale, thanks for your comment. But let me finish it for you.

Hailu Shawel sat on a wall
Hailu Shawel had a great fall
All his cronies and all his chiqashums
could not put Hailu together again

  12. TO Olbemo, whom are you comparing? Atse Haile Selassie is a respected leader He is not perfect like any human being. You don’t know who Haile Selassie was.Don’t compare gold and silver.Everyone who used to hate him for nothing are paying the price now.History will tell more truth soon.mekoyet deg new.
