The delegates include Ato Hailu Shawel (president), Wzr Bertukan Mideksa (vice president), Dr Hailu Araya (spokesperson), Dr Berhanu Nega (Mayor of Addis Ababa), Ato Gizachew Shiferraw (executive committee member), and Ato Brook Kebede (executive committee member).

The Kinijit executive committee has also decided that the initial receiving of the delegation will be coordinated by a three-member team including Dr Alemayehu G. Mariam, Ato Tamagn Beyene, and Ato Solomon Alemu, with the collaboration and assistance of Kinijit North America.

The executive committee, in a letter sent out today (በአማርኛ, pdf), asked the Kinijit North America support groups to assist the three individuals in organizing Kinijit supporters and the Ethiopian community to provide a warm reception for the delegates when they arrive in Washington DC.

The delegation plans to visit several cities in the United States. Kinijit North America support groups are expected to take over the coordination of the tour following their initial arrival at the United States.

  1. The democractically elected DC Metro Chapter along with
former members of KIL should have coordinated the
welcoming party. The shameful thieves and party crashers like Taye in the keysi have nothing to do with Kinijit. Criminals and liars have no place in a
    democratic party.

  2. wow wow,Our Hero elected leaders are coming to us. They are welcomed by all Ethiopians. Shame on Meles and his supporters. No place for ya weyanes. Payback time is near. We will see where and how you going to hide from us.

  3. It’s a great news to all peace loving people all over the world.
We are all greatful to see our honest and brave leaders alive.
We all have to come together and continue our struggle with our leaders.
May God bless you all so much and will hopefully see you all in the united states.
    Ethiopia will prevail.

  4. I’m happy to hear that our leaders can start again the struggle with a new spirit. They show their strength and quality.
god bless our beloved ethiopia and its chosen leaders

  5. It is a wonderful news, Tamagn you are really Tamagn. I apreciate you, I hope you will be successful in co-ordinating the tour as well as in your future political career. On top of this I hope the leaders visit will have a paramount importance in reorganizing the diaspora. I wish all the best.

  6. Thank God for all the truly democratic leaders who went through hell for democracy. We will never forget the struggle we went through and our brothers in KIL who lead us through the very tough times.

    God save Ethiopia!

  7. I hope Hailu will not tell the community out there “Weyane alqoletal, and samnt alqerewm” kinda of stuff once again. I wish qinjit ban him from any of the public addressing job. He is not a type and he doesn’t have the oratory nature. I wish they keep him do his job behind the curtain.

The other is, I appeal to those who are cursing Taye to refrain from doing so. Such is unfruitful for the cause. Please let us take time and see what will be turning out.

  8. I absolutely agree with the last comment. As most of you have known, Dr. Taye is a seasoned politician whom most of us admire for his courage and integrity. We do not know his motive and strategy that brought him now in Kinigit’s critical time as a main political party. I do not believe either he is an opportunist politician. I do not understant why he is so musch involved. I am sure that he is not corrupted and power hungry person. Because I have so much admiration for him I only wish he will contribute positively. Time will prove who this person is. Just wait for a while; it won’t be too long. We shouldn’t be baised and dugemental by other’s opinion.

  9. I got a relief as our leaders decided to be received by the KNA and the true Ethiopians (AL, Tamagne, etc). From this message I understood that the mission of Taye and co’s has well known by our leaders.Taye and co’s won’t appear in our party again. My indebted thanks goes to those dedicated guys in ECADF paltalk room and Elias for your determined spirit to fight the corrupted power mongers (Taye groups) till their downfall. Indeed, though I have no words to express my appreciation, I thank you the KIL leaderrs (The Six)who keep kinjit alive and made it very strong by forming and organizing Kinjit Chapters everywhere in the globe. You (KIL leaders) will be with us soon after the tour of our delegated leaders.
Kinjit is a spirit of Freedom and Democracy!!!!!
    GOD Bless Ethiopia!! Amen!

  10. They are really wise enough. They know very well how to lead the party and the people. this is the best way to settle the matter democratically without any side taking. Bravo our leaders! God bless you all!

  11. I am very pleased to hear the deligation coming to the united states to help find the best solution to fight against corruption and personal interest of some selfish high rank officials who are making bussiness in the name of peaceful struggle to oust the dictator who is leading the country under the point of gun.I hope all the problem to be settled by our wise and detirmined leaders so soon.On this occassion I would like to welcome the countries best leaders who are choosen by the people for the people.

  12. Congratulation Daispora!!
Recieve your heroes with your hands opened wide.
You deserve thanks giving as equal as those who sacrificed their lives for their leaders. I hope engineer Hailu Shawl will make it cleare that He was not a part of the Shalekas cospiracy.
I am really happy for Tamagn And prof.Al Mariam for their dedicated struggle to bring harmony to KINIJIT in diaspora. They deserve to cater the reception.

  13. this is really great news. The Diaspora and those who stand for the Ethiopian people at large, it is your achievement. Here, it has been very difficult to welcome the leaders to publicly as dimonistrations and such things are prohibited. But some initatives are going on here; for instance people in Addis are raisingt funds to welcome W/t Bertukan Mideksa, one of our heros.

Your heros are coming – how much love are you ready to show for the sacrifice, the committment…..they showed us?
    God bless you all

  14. Dear Ethiopians,

If you are really supporting KINIJIT, do not attack any one working for KINIJIT whether you like them or not. By attacking individuals who worked and working for KINIJIT you are damaging the main issue ie KINIJIT strugling working. Every accused person is innocent till proven guilty. Character assasination is an example of unsivilised approach to solve problems at this difficult time.

In my opinion, who ever “accused in wrong doing” have contributed better than us because we (most of us) don’t know what we talking about since we were / are not close to a real political participation that demand a round the clock thinking and activity.

Please leave the task of sorting out existing problems for the elected leaders. You may give your opinions with out insulting any one. Every one has a right not to be called in any way unless the law proves it otherwise.

We talking too much about human right but are we trying to practice it ???????????????????????

    Peace for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Good news are always good news and needs to be celebrated. Hence I would also like to join the majority to express my delight for the leaders planned coming.

However, this is only just one side of the coin because we also need to consider as to what the other side of the coin could be, otherwise we will always be forced to dance at the drumming of the cunning foxes dressed in sheep skin and even against the interests of the wretched poor.

Here I only mean in case the cunning Wayane managed to convert these leaders to advance directly or indirectly just simple Wayane strategies while hiding and camouflaging the practical action lines and tactics on the ground.

After all, they have been processed by the wayane in wayane jail, signed secret wayane dictated terms and condition for their liberty, and all these and other variables of the leader’s age, educational privilages, life style preferances, etc. may easily bend them towards just getting what ever crumbs the Wayane throws to them and go leave peacefully with their family as well even traveling the world over and give preachings if only there is some thing in it for the devious dictator.

Let us wish us all the best and let us wish me great optimism regarless of my examining both sides of the same coin!

  16. It doesn’t matter who received the deligates; They are the property of the Ethiopian people who sacrified a lot for them and All Ethipians will welcome them even without bunch of power hungry party leaders from KIC or KNA….how are we gonna fulfill the will of the Ethopian people withouth unified leadership. It is a shame to see a one party leaders and claim that they stand for Ethiopian people throw mud on each other…shame on KIC….shame on KIL/KNA.
    long live Ethiopia

  17. I regret that Kinijit deligation will be led by Ato Hailu Shawel. He may be an honest and edicated person to his cause (as some claim), but so was Mengistu Hailemariam.
Let’s be realistic. We can NOT implement Western Democracy in Africa overnight. It must be a gradual process.
We need to understand that Meles Zenawi is a person who is caught between his deep communist beliefs and an attempt to adjust to the actual global situation. Some even argue that Meles is genuinly attempting to bring democracy to Ethiopia.
On the other hand A few Kinijit leaders and supporters demonstrated uncontrollable rush for power through any means. This was compemented by the tone of revange from Mr. Hailu against the current government.
Do you think Meles would submit to switching position with Mr. Hailu (between the Arat Kilo and Kaliti)?

Mr. Hailu may be a leader but ssurely not a political one.
Meles has shown some willingness and justures to bring about democracy. Yes he may be too suspicious and hesitant.
We need leaders who can understand this and wisely navigate through the challenges.
“Weyane alquoletal!” amounts to playing from same old rhetoric tune that helped get us to where we are today.

Dear Ato Hailu, if you are for Ethiopia, step aside and let the capable ones take it from here.

    God bless Ethiopia!

  18. PLEASE STOP ANY OTHER SUGGESTION AND TAKE WHAT HAS BE SAID AS AN ORDER FROM OUR ELECTED LEADERS WHOM WE ALL AGREE HAVE PAID THE ALTIMATE HARDSHIP OF PRISONMENT…

    WE OWE TO THIS LEADERS,

LONG LIVE ETHIOPIA / MAY GOD GIVE US ALL THE STRENGTH OF BEING POSITIVE ENOUGH NOT TO DISAGREE ALL THE TIME

  19. They deserve the vey best welcoming cermony which can be granted for a head of state elected by the people and we are ready to do that. This is the begining of the second phase of the democratic revolution in Ethiopia.

  20. Gebeyehu:

“Let’s be realistic. We can NOT implement Western Democracy in Africa overnight. It must be a gradual process.” you wrote.

Well, my friend we Ethiopiopians sem to learn phrases very fast in order to support our self serving despotic interests.

You know, King Haile Selassie ruled over Ethiopia with dictatoral iron hand close to 50 years singing the same songs, ” We cannot implement Western democracy in Africa over night.” Dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam ruled over Ethiopia close to 20 years singing the same song, that is to say, ” We cannot implement Western democracy in Africa over night.” Then came dictator Meles, now ruling soon close to 20 years agains repeating the same ritual, ” We cannot implement Western democracy in Africa over night.” So, the big lie is being in seriel reproduction and got stack to you on its trips.

I wonder as to what makes you think that everything good and progressive is basically an aspect of western culture and by implication perhaps everything bad and regressive are aspects of African culture?

Democracy in fact is not inherently an aspect of Western culture, but anaspect of African cultural values and traditions.

Fore example, egalitarianism and democratic political and social values and practices have always been part and parcel of the Oromo and other similar societies in Africa.

This being the case, and Africa being the original birth place of the human species that spread across the globe from there in, one may justifiably conclude that the idea of democracy also originally came to be planted in the ancient European societies by being imported from Africa.

So, there is no basic obstacles in reviving and implementing such values that have always been in African cultural and social values. The single most obstacles are only self serving hedonistic Ethiopian dictators.

  21. Dear Mestewat,

I agree with you that we have exemplery democratic systems as the Gada system and a lot more that we can be proud of!! Fast forward to the reality of today and the contrast between the west and Africa is a totally different story, hough that is not to say we do not still have values that are better than the western world.
Going back to my main point, I am not suggesting in any way to put off democracy for some future time.
However it would be naive to think that by removing Weyane from power today, it will be all good and democratic in Ethiopia tomorrow.
We need a good leadership that can bring about a system that can establish and maintain democracy in Ethiopia.
Leading such a transition is complex and extremely challenging. It requires skills and capacity to balance between the interests of various issues and groups.
If leaders are not confident enough to find and keep the balance between thsee complex issues, they naturally default towards dictatorship.
Ato Hailu has not demonstrated his leadership and in my opinion he does not posses the political skills to do so. We do not need leaders who say what the crowd wants to hear today for short term popularity or to fast track to power.
We need leaders with VISION for ETHIOPIA. We needs leaders who care for the poor people of Ethiopia. We need leaders who can learn from the past and who can provide leadership to improve the future.

Dear Mestewat, your comment ia all about the past. What is your take on the future?

  22. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW OUR LEADERS ARE coming soon!!!!!!!!! Thanks ALMIGHTY God for this good news. PPL in usa , be ready !!!, the leaders of the popular party[:kinijit] are planning to viste diaspora after their releasement from weyane’s unlawfull imprisonment. I vote for w/ro MERON AHADU for the team of coordination. i hope our leader enngi hailu shawule will ask shaleqa and his gangisters’ group where about our$1.200.000 and why did not he send the money at home and support our leaders families? down with KIC[ Kiciy] and my great respect and admiration to At birhan mewa, ato andaregachew tsegie, ato daniel assefa, ato dawit kebede, enng moges G/MARIAM AND Dr geberey for their great sevice and leadership under such a tough time. I hope our great leaders will have time to sit and talk with our brothers and sisters who have been fighting against their ethiopiawinet. thanks GOD again.

  23. Hail our elected leaders. Hail the President Hailu Shawel, Birtukan Mideksa ( the vice president), Birhanu Nega, Muluneh Eyoel(the roaring Lion),Dr Hailu Araya (spokesperson), Dr Berhanu Nega (Mayor of Addis Ababa), Ato Gizachew Shiferraw (executive committee member), and Ato Brook Dawit (executive committee member).
Ethiopia has a future. Her genuine children are ready to stand up and be counted, when it matters most. CUDP has been the beacon of hope, the guiding principle and the hope and future of our people.
Through the dark days when it all seemed hopless we gained strength from the courage and and trustworthiness of our elected leaders. CUDP leadership chose to servr our people. They could have said YES and joined the woyane phoney parliament, they could have gone back to their bussinesses, professions and live comfortable lives. But the leadership of CUDP decided to give something back to the Ethiopian people. They chose to lead the fight for democracy, freedom and justice in Ethiopia. We shall walk with them to the end.

  24. Let our leaders do their job.I have full confidence that they will fix this mess between the two parties. It is a wise action not to involve only one side;I believe thier mission is fact-finding.
So, the elected leaders should address the problem and we should give them the chance to evaluate this chaos.Because i believe that with out a doubt that these leaders are fit to solve the issue.
By the way I want to say thanks to prof.Alemayehu G.Mariam,Artist Tamagn Beyene and Dr.Solomon Alemu.
I knew you are very discipline and dedicated to the Ethiopian cause. And are very well respected individuals in the Ethiopian society.
    “God bless”

  25. Upon reviewing some of the comments, I am disgusted, frustrated and even upset. I am also convinced that some Ethiopians must have untested hygenic contagious communicable disease that distructs their mental vision.
Please try to understand the fundamental concept of UNITY, based on: we can agree to disagree or we must respect their opinion; eventhough; we disagree with them. An attempt to insult or defame people like Dr.Taye, or someone else, will not allow Kinjit to accomplish its ultimate objective.

  26. They should have toured Ethiopia first. Is their constituency p^rimarily the Diaspora? The fellows have learnt no lesson. All the trumpet the Diaspora may blow for them is uselss so long as the Kinjit is not well in Ethiopia.

  27. Elected vs served, honorary titles and Ethiopian nominees

All best wishes to the leaders of CUD and their tour to be successful.

-This web site and others address Dr, Bihanu Nega as Mayor Birhanu Nega. Elected to be a mayor but not served, it is an awkward reminder of the short fall coincidence of 2005 to the people who elected him and I doubt if he wants to be addressed as Mayor. Mayor elect Dr. Birhanu Nega is practical or just Dr. Birhanu ( Most people know the back ground story of the election vs service).

-Professional titles held in the past seem to be applied permanently to professors. If Engineer Hailu is addressed as such, why not Birtukan as Judge?. The line of protocol is inconsistent, unless judges give up their titles. Her marital status is also refereed with such inconsistency that it is not fair for her. Woiz. as an equivalent of Ms. of the post womens’ movement title for the independent woman is not customary in Ethiopian culture, but needs to be adopted. Once and for all journalists might have to ask her how she wants to be addressed and stick with that. It will catch on.

-The elected leaders deserve the title excellency, but with out the actual service it is a half baked decoration and some what awkward.

-Their tour to N.America, Canada and the second delegates to Europe and Africa is good news. If protocol allows, it could be a good gesture to send the 193 victims families condolence cards before they leave the country.

-The future hopefully will see them in planning for another election, and the sooner the division in North America cools of the better.

-It is as much harmful for the party to keep accusing Shleka Yoseph until proven guilty at the find stage of the process.

-Dr. Taye’s stand might have been what it had in regard to CUD and never served in the party before his recent nomination. If the criteria is always the number of years one has been of service and his vote to the party, CUD will lose out on highly regarded professionals who have served the country.

  28. To WHAT IS IN A NAME,

-When there is an entourage of leaders whose stories have taken the international lime light and advocacy, and they will be on business, diplomatic and social trip, consistency in title is less confusing and more comfortable. Kebur and Keberet is appropriate.
-It can be irritating to other women to find inconsistency between Woizerit and Woizero for the same person.

-Other dignitaries of similar stature to the touring leaders would be at a comfort level as to how to address them verbally or in correspondence.
-Some things including titles matter in subtle ways or other wise. The “struggle” will still go on with forms and shapes. The coordinators of the visit and reception might consider all these factors which matter.

  29. Alas! we keep name calling instead of focusing on how we welcome the elected leaders. It’s down right demeaning too to see some among us telling us that “we cannot implement democracy in Africa overnight.” Is this the sound of tyranny or ignorance?

  30. It is much better to focus on how Kinijit will win on the next election than just welcomeing the past elected leaders.
They were elcected last time not in the future.
We shouldn’t have to worship the personalities, but the idea and manifeso of the kinijit.Dear brothers and sisterss of Ethiopia wake up ! We have been worshiping the leaders. That is the bigest mistake we have been always doing. There are a lot commited and determined Ethiiopian LIJOCH. Let go on forward. We don’t need to forget that we facing a big chaleenge infront of us.
Let us work hard for the future election. I hope we are all smart. Don’t be confused with the air of roumers. You can still elect and drop the leaders. Be smart who is onest and franc ! we do not need dectator leaders any more.
    Cheers !!!

  31. Here goes Ocho!!

These days we are not short on disrespect to othrers which is a reflection of how civilized and knowledgable we are.
What kind of democracy do you have in mind while you react like a mad dog to a normal and genuine opinion from others? Just because an opinion is different from yours does not mean it is wrong. Even if it is you should learn to respect others point of view.
Please, attend “Ye Democrasy Ha Hu”

  32. It’s good that they are coming to cear things up and lift the spirit of the diaspora…but wouldn’t it be wise to make the groundworks concrete back home? Guess that’s where the bigger mass base locates…that’s where the arena is established

    i was just wondering

  33. Going to USA!what to expect there? to cheer and head back home?, they have to face a strong criticism and challenge.1)Why they decided not to take their sits they’v won ,and slip opportunity out that could contribut to extended victory ?
2)If they are not able to face their weekness, and accept their mistakes they wil not be able to rule Ethiopia,I will not vote for them again,I will rather vote for Woyane so at least the country stay stable.3)Learn from Beyene petros,Bulcha Demeksa,Merera Gudina and others ,they are still going strong.
