(Islington Gazette) LONDON, U.K. — A YOUNG woman whose body was found dumped in a burning suitcase in Islington (a suburb of London) had not been seen for weeks by her friends and neighbours.
This week they spoke of their shock at the 23-year-old’s death, with one friend – who had been wondering why she had not been in contact – collapsing in tears when told what had happened.
Rahmona Ahmedin is thought to have been stabbed to death at her fourth-floor apartment in Peabody Square off Essex Road, Islington, between June 6 and June 18.
After receiving a fatal knife wound to her chest, she was bundled into a suitcase – which was then set alight in a lay-by about 50 miles away on the A1301 in Cambridgeshire.
Her body was discovered at about 3.30am last Wednesday after a lorry driver noticed the flames. She had been reported missing on June 14.
A man has been charged with her murder after walking into a Fulham police station on Friday.
Rahmona was born in Ethiopia but later fled with her family to Sweden. She came to the UK about five years ago and is thought to have lived in a hostel before moving to Peabody Square about a year ago. Although Rahmona’s family is thought to still be in Sweden, her mother and a younger brother were seen visiting her around Christmas.
One friend, who did not know about Rahmona’s death until contacted by the Gazette, was devastated.
The woman, who does not want to be named, said: “She was a quiet, nice girl – really nice. The last time we spent time together was around May 20. It was my friend’s birthday and she was having her nails done. Then I didn’t see her for a while.
“She said she had been away with a friend and would give me a call. But she never did. Her mum loved her so much. She always wanted her to go back to university to study but she never went.”
A neighbour in Peabody Square said: “I think the last time I saw her was about a month ago but I saw her rarely anyway. In the year she has lived here, I don’t think I have seen her more than 20 times. It’s more than just sad, it’s sickening. Everyone has been talking about this. We just want to know what happened.”
Acting Detective Sergeant Sion Hughes said: “We are interested in talking to anyone who knows her, anyone who saw anything suspicious around her home in the first week of June or around the time her body was discovered.”

Sad to hear that a young life was wasted by a mad person/s. It is also a good reminder to ethiopian diaspora that the world is full of crazy people and better to be cautious than and beware of who we dealing with, who we date with and who we ride with. God help us.
Try not to hurt others. Otherwise, the price might be so costly as we are witnessing these days. All the killers have good justification for doing so at least at that moment. They felt victimized and retaliated. So, think twice before hurting other’s feeling.

What is wrong with our community? I am afraid the word Ethiopia might as well be synonimous with the word murder as they did it with famine. It is time that we look into ourselves try to figure out what causes all these brutality in our society. Community and religious leaders should take the initiative and try to bring the matter forward for discussion.

SAD INDEED! More is to come and the body counting may go on unless those among the Ethiopian immigrant communities and the educated establish conflict mediation and proactive conflict prevention projects as soon as possible. Action and problem solution is what matters most rather than fatalistic and passive body counting.

It means that the police have the alleged killer, but they need independent and reliable evidences as to the criminality of the man so that the police can confidently present the case with complete and reliabel evidences to the prosecutor, the judge and the defending lawyer.

This is normal police investigation procedure. Just because they have one suspect does not mean end of investigation. Although they caught a suspect, they still want more leads on this case.

mr gettu,i guess that you have misinterpreted my original intent due to either my lack of explanation or your lack of focus. i have never said that u should reject GOd.what i said was you shouldn’t use the word GOd while vaiolating his fundamental principles or commandments.you also said that i am atheist.mr dear friend gettu, i may be tolerant of some of your foolishness ,but i never compromise when it comes to my faith. i don’t appreciate to be called as atheist since i am a devout orthodx christian who believe in God without any doubt.
the intent and purpose still is to investigate and find the root cause of these ethiopian women who were murdured by ethiopian men.i read your comments about this issue and u focused on only one of the many factors which can cause this tragedy.your conclusion basd on one factor seems to sound baist and absurd and tend to overlook many shovenist and ignorant ethiopian men conducts.in clear sense the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.these women don’t deserve to be murdered.

Why wouldn’t we leave this woman soul rest in peace. What is the evidence this woman has been adulterous. Why do we manipulate once death to impose our sadistic understanding of this world.
I think, by any standard it is unacceptable to paint our sisters, children and wives devilishly dark. It is even questionable if most of the above postings are even legal. It is something some of the negativities about women (targeting the Ethiopian women) are poured out, and in someways could be therapeutic, that some get relieved, I don’t have a scant doubt some of the guys like Mr Assta should seek a psychological therapy anyway. I can also question if some of the postings wouldn’t embolden even more and more men to commit more murders targeting our sisters. What kind of woman would stand a person whose mind is entangled with ignorance like some of the negative postings here. You here and there mention religion, national sentiment which I found it to be so insulting, that for the sake of our name and country, the moderator of this forum and everyone of us should condemn such deceits.
To make things simple some of you out there be calm, murdering by any means is not a solution. For what we give we will receive it back, if we give our wives love it will reciprocate. If we tame our wife she will be our asset, but otherwise they can become beast on us. If things do not work out, it is not the end of the world, there are a lot of counsellings service either online or with face to face appearance. A lot of free materials are on the internet to tackle our difficulties if some can’t afford counsellings. The problem with Mr Assta is he allows himself into picking all the bad apples, and this will create more of these. The most challenging task for most of us is to pick the goodness in people. Mr Assta please refrain from perpetuating satanic imaginations about women and the world as a whole. In this way you will stop prompting more and more damage to more innocent Ethiopians.
