Poisoned cooking oil kills 8 in Ethiopia

Posted on

ADDIS ABABA – Authorities closed 16 cooking oil factories in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Tuesday after eight people were killed and scores sickened by food cooked with contaminated oil.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said 94 people were in hospital with suspected poisoning, and urged the public to only buy cooking oil marked with government safety stamps.

“Study indicated that a highly toxic oily fruit, unfit for human consumption, had been mixed with other ingredients by the factories processing edible oil,” the statement said.

Investigations into work practices at the 16 shuttered businesses were continuing, government officials said.

  1. Sorry to hear about that. We do not need anybody to die unreasonably. having said that, hoever, and as sad as the incident is, I wonder if the evil Weyane thugs are going to Blame “Shabya” or some opposition forces for this unfortunate and something that was probably caused by irresponsible bureaucrats of the “wey Inie” gangs!

  2. The absence of rain, was the result of deforstation. Ethiopia’s forest was attacked deliberatelt, logged above and geyond to send the lumber to build tigray. These destruction and the irrepairable burning of thich forest in Bale mountains impacted not only southern Ethiopia, but crippling weather changes throughout Ethiopia and neighboring countries.

Normally, starvasion was what goes on in Northern Ethiopia, but now, the most greenest, richest part of Ethiopia is the epic center of starvation.

In addition, Woyannes are forcefully, demanding money from poor farmers who are in the epic center of starvation. These itself is the second causes for early deaths of babies, parents throughout centeral, eastern, southern, part of the country.

  3. Elias,

Who put the poison in the oil?

It is not even funny… when people say history repeats it self, some times it is true some times it is not true. But this “poisoned oil and a government safety stamp” reminded me about something that I read about a story that happened during the Hun dynasty. When one of the chieftains name Attila overthrow the dynasty violently and took power, the mass indirectly denied him the legitimacy he desperately wanted. He was a very cleaver and calculative barbarian (he reminds me of you know who?). He deliberately poisoned a few of the community’s water tanks and many people died. According to the story, People were terrified to drink water. He then gathered the mass to discuss the issue and ordered his chieftains to clean the “affected” tanks and to refill the tanks with fresh water. He then declared, “We can not afford to loose Hun’s life like this and I have to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. “From now on I, Attila the Hun will put my stamp on the clean thanks and test the water first to make sure that it is safe for you to drink, and you should only drink from that tank alone”. If you don’t see my stamp on the tank, it is not safe, do not drink. The next day, He put his stamp on the tanks as he said. He drank water from the stamped tank in front of the mass, and a few people started drinking. After 3 days every one was looking for a tank with Attila’s stamp. In less than 3 months, people start chanting his name, Attila the Hun! Attila the Hun! Attila the Hun!

The take home lesson… You are safe with me. I will protect your safety. Does this seem familiar to you?

  4. Oh!yes!Amina, that is a very very familiar story.

Our Atilla does not not leave any stone unturned to stay in power!

His countless foul plays,no matter how sophisticated they are, will not however save him from his eventual downfall.

    History watches!

By the way,I very much like your comment,Amina. It is intelligent and witty. Please comment on more issues and I for one would be delighted to read you again.

  5. The natural and pleasant “nug” and “selitt” of humera and metema is given as a gift to the west with enormous income to Azeb mesfin and co., whereas Ethiopia is importing “yebekollo zeit” from them incl. Arab countries.

It is not surprising if the oil producers make oil out of toxic poison – because selittu, nugu ena telbaw bager yelemna.

    Koftanaw the awramba

  6. I wish those who died be members of the TPLF, otherwise if this happened on innocent Ethiopians I would like to pass my deepest condolences to the victim’s family members. By the way we will hear more drastic news related to high inflation, when the people get no option to feed themselves they use different mechanism to over come it. However, I strongly wish the people would organize them selves and start killing these TPLF weyane gangsters everywhere in Ethiopia.
