Ethiopian Review sources reported that on Sunday afternoon some of the Kinijit prisoners in Qaliti sent their personal items home as they await their release. According to ER sources, the release of the prisoners may occur any time between tomorrow, Monday, and two weeks. Reportedly, Woyanne officials told the mediators that they will not announce the date of the release. There is also a speculation among some informed sources that Woyanne may not release all the prisoners until after they are sentenced by the court. . . – more details later

what took you so long to come out with at least any sort of news. As you are a hero for most ethiopians, we waited for days of your way of thinking and opinion. Good to hear from you…

Hello,Elias
Thank you for your tireless effort in keeping us informd about our country.I am proud that my country has such courageous young men and women despite the criminal gang of tplf to put us down.I was exteremly angry since these termites began destroying our history and national ethos.I have no words to describe them.Well what kis left now is for washington to follw the example of European Union and pull off the last feeding tube off of wooyanes decomlposing belly. That is lit!!!!!!!!Our Ethiopia will in no time produce multiple kinds of professor Asrat, professor Mesfin and Shawels.I am also extremly angry with some kinijit leaders who are squabbling for power especially those who were entrusted to lead the struggle while the electsed leaders are in jail.It klis shame and sad on the part of Andargachew tisge and berhn mewa.
If, in fact, the CUD leaders are going to be released, that is a welcome news. It is nice to let these individual have their lives back. However, as far as the overall effort towards democracy is concerned, we are all back to square one.
What happened so far is that Ethiopians wanted democracy, they did not get it, their democratically elected leaders got arrested and now released. So, there were no progress since May of 2005 in our march towards democracy.
The release of the prisoners, if it is true, is going to be a great news; but without a corresponding plan to move forward in our march towards democracy, we will all be yawning with boredom and we all have to go back to the drawing board.
Dear ER Elias,
I am convinced already that your kind of politics is never needed. It looks you are not happy they will be released. Of course there will be a lot to do to achive democracy. Democracy is a process , not something to be achived overnight. We have seen how CUD fragmented when tested with fire. SEE Lidetu CUD, Elias has its own CUD, KIL is 2 even more?, Temesgen CUD, Chamiso CUD( EPRDF also has its own version ). and the Jailed CDU and more. Now the truly well tested is the one in Jail. We will see how long they will keep their integrity too.Elias “grow up”
This barganing trick of the Woyanne government reminds me of the evil deeds of Meles Zenawi to have Tamirat Layne, his closest friend, confess the ‘sugare case’ that he was into with the promise of freeing him and then putting him in jail for so long. Therefore, opposition leaders in jail should take ever care before signng the agreement
I would say wait until all of them are outside of hell (Qaliti).
How could we trust evil? Meles, Bereket, Sebhat Nega are the evils of Ethiopia. These people are
Hi! Everybody
I’m very happy to hear that our leadres get out of EPRDF/TPLF prison. But do we know – why now all of a sudden they are ready to release them. we heard already from Bereket that he couldn’t confirm their release. May be they will release them and arrange a type of prison in their own home with a restriction of movement, communication and travel abroad? let’s wait and see. I don’t beleieve TPLF.
I admire ER taking a low profile in this case as I
Dear contrributors,
Please keep the warnings and advice until the leaders are released.
Thanks
It is good news that the CUD leaders have confesed about their mistakes and the government is willing to let them get out of prison.
Let us see forward and work together for our Millenium
PS: Please those extreme diasporians, stop your destructive and hate propoganda that has costed the CUD leaders so much, and you have to understand that you are undermining the efforts of the mediators
All eyes on you, EPPF. Ethiopians are standing 100% with you. Human power, resources and mainly commitments are on the way to reach you from all direction. Just call loudly and boldly those belong to you.
You are on the right and only truck woyane understands, afraid and listens. When the enemy is cruel, it is needed to be cruel against it.
You guys why don’t we all stay quite and see what happens. Really too much gossip will do no good. We only make the ruling party more anxious. LETS US NOT FORGET they have every power to change the verdict what ever way they please. what did we do when 193 civilians were executed in day light? Or when CUD leaders were taken to jail and suffer for nearly two years? Really it better to keep things in low profile.
I’m too much skeptical about the move made regarding the release of our leaders. We are quite familiar with Woyane and its silly game over the past decade. They are famous for their changing behavior just like chameleon. I personally never expect goodwill to come out of Woyane. Nonetheless, the change with the external environment, the end of Blair term and some changes from the US side might compel them to do so. Anyway, the great thing is to see our leaders back to the game.
I am afraid that the prisoners wouldn’t be released. All these rumours are coming from unreliable sources. The first-hand information was aired by Woyane-affiliated media. Such as Aiga, Deqi-Alula, Ethiopia first etc. These is disinformation.
Anyway if the struggle is for the ultimate goal of democracy and the rule of law, the struggle should continue until the Woyane gangs surrender to democracy and good governance.
So people do not be cheated repeatedly by the propaganda machinery of Woyane & Co.
I can bet that we hear another ugly news from the Kangaroo-court which I really don’t wish to happen.
“Woyanen mamen qebro neiw”.
Look how Bereket Simeon is gumbling with distorted news. This is an indication of the essence of the matter.
May Be Woyannie used this agrement for his purpos and he will do harm things on our leaders.
i am glad to hear that our leaders are going to be free but i am just worried about the things the come with their freedom. i hope there release is with no string attached. if they are set free the first thing they should do is, to get rid of all the hodam members of the CUD PARTY and start with all new and true ethiopians that can take CUD to the next level.
I heard the news that CUD opposition leaders, now in Ethiopia prison, might be released. This is good news, if it is true. But in the mean time I believe Ethiopians have to keep putting pressure both on the Ethiopian government and the United States government to make this happen. Because I feel Ethiopian government is not predictable. It might choose, wait and see, if the pressure subsides. Just a point of caution.
Thanks,
Mark.
