Eritrean political, civic organizations in Sweden form united front for democratic Eritrea

Addis Ababa, December 18, 2007 (WIC) – Eritrean political and civic organizations in Sweden have agreed to form a united front ”to fight the dictator and its supporters in Sweden.”

According to a press release sent to WIC, the Eritrean civic and political organizations in Sweden have conducted a series of meetings under the banner ”In support of our oppressed people, unite our efforts against the dictatorship.”

The meeting ” discussed deeply the plight of the Eritrean people and confirmed that Eritrea is now in a downward spiral of poverty and unrest. The politics in Eritrea is poisoned and need urgent cure and be transformed for the wider health of the Eritrean people, ”the release said.

After evaluating the past campaign and peaceful demonstrations they realized that the best option to fight the dictator and its supporters in Sweden is to build a common united broad front, it further noted.

The meeting finally formulated a comprehensive plan of action capable of strengthening the suffering people, weakening and then destroying the dictatorship and building a durable democracy in Eritrea, according to the press release.

The meeting also elected a five-person interim board leading the process of common understanding and its implementation, it was learnt.

  1. All Eritreans know that 90% of the people opposing the Eritrean government are Woyane agents. The other 10% are opportunists with grudges against the government, disgruntled ex-politicians and tribalists/regionalist/islamists.

  2. These are all partners in crime. Sooner or later they will expose their lies and evil deeds by their actions. Now all the people of the Horn are disgusted by this TPLF’s evil agendas. Their screams and shouts will not save them at the end of the day, because, the people of Ethiopia and Tigray are fed up of this evil regime. Don’t you worry about Eritrea. Eritreans know well who is who.

  3. How low can one go? Is this the best shot of Weyane? What can 10 men in Sweden do while tens of thousands of Eritreans across the world conduct seminars in support of the government? The thing is Weyane is so so so desperate to do something to counter the strong relationship being fostered between Ethio armed groups and Eritrea which by the way is reaching its peak as we speak!

One thing is for sure: The more Weyane antagonizes Eritrea, the more Eritrea strengths all armed Ethio groups including ONLF, OLF, TPDM, EPPF, Sidama, Benshangul and the Somalis. This will eventually result in the inevitable downfall of Weyane.Only then Eritrea and Ethiopia and the whole region will live in peace and tranquility! Amen!

  4. So far, the Eritrean political and civic organizations in Sweden have been successful in hiding their real intentions and their real agenda behind pretense of democracy and human rights. But now they have basically admitted that they are associated with the Zenawi´s regime. I dont think it is a smart move to associate onself with the regime that is hated by the entire region. In other words, the anti-Shaebia organisation in Sweden have committed mass political suicide. It seems like all Shaebia´s enemies have a suicidal tendency.

  5. It is easy to spot the Despareto Woyanes from 1000 miles away. We all know who these Woyane looters are. They used the same trick in Ethiopia and in Somalia but could not succeed now in Eritrea.

  6. What a joke! Most of these “organisations” are nothing but one man organizations representing no-one but themselves. The fact that the TPLF takes these non-existent organisations seriously reveals that the regime is utterly desperate.

  7. Guys,
The Weyanes desperately are trying to cling to dear life by any means including cheating, deceiving, lying and denying any crime they have committed against anyone and anybody in broad day light. That is their trade mark folks. We as Ethiopians and Eritreans need to work EVEN HARDER to narrow down our differences and start working hand and glove with the Government of Eritrea like the EPPF and TPDM etc not only to topple the Weyanes which is just around the corner, but we need to work our LONG TERM coexistence strategy with our Eritrean brothers first and foremost like Demis said that we have too many issues, culture etc that unites us. I don’t know about you guys, but ask an Ethiopian that was in Asmara, Assab during 1994-97 just before the ill advised Weyane war started. Chances are he/she will tell you that he/she never felt a “Stranger” anywhere one went. Some of them didn’t even command the Tigrigna language as well. They were ALWAYS welcome as special people. Nobody asks them for an ID anymore than they would for the Eritreans themselves. The point is don’t let any body confuse you by stating that if Eritrea and Ethiopia are two separate countries, we (Ethiopians) are going to lose the Red Sea ports etc. While, it is true that the Red Sea would be Eritrean, what is Eritrea going to do with it or its ports? Eat it or swallow it into oblivion? Weren’t Ethiopia using the ports like it owned them before the war? Has Eritrea kept Ethiopia from using it or even put any kind of restriction on the use of the ports? Was Ethiopia paying in foreign currency to use it like it is forced to do now for use of Djibouti, Hargeisa, Mombassa and Bosaso? Like I said Ethiopian residing in Eritrea had never felt a stranger when they were with their brothers and sisters in Eritrea. To me, Eritrean independence is fait accompli and guess what? It does not bother me a bit. Why? The Eritreans had fought for their independence all along (we did not even help them – that is a fact) and after so many sacrifices, they have their country back that was illegally annexed by thelate Emperor. To make things worse, Menghistu bombed them almost into oblivion instead of addressing whatever grievance they may have had. Some of you may be too young to know this, but, had Mengistu hailemariam had the insight and wisdom of abiding by the advice of General Aman Andom (an Eritrean – a decorated hero of the Somali war), may be things may have been different. Certainly, all that unnecessary blood bath my have been avoided. But no, it seems endemic that Ethiopian leaders have a tendency to marginalize other advises. Unfortunately, so far, Ethiopia does not seem to have been endowed with visionary leaders – but chauvinist begamindos and that is what boils down to. So I am calling on our Ethiopian and Eritrean brothers and sisters, let us please work for the betterment of our countries and let the war mongers go to hell where they belong. But it is us that have to make it happen – not the USA, France, Italy or the Chinese and we can not do it if we are on each others throat.

  8. I agree a 100% with Bert had said. I see a bright future in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia and Eritrea in particular, living side-by-side as two good neighbors, ushering eachother with brotherly-sisterly love. The people of both countries have suffered enough and a dire need for a change is needed and that day will come. I’m an Eritrean and I dont have any problem if my Ethiopian neighbors want to use the Assab port as long as they don’t want to claim it as their own.
As far as the woyane regime is concerned, it knows its days are numbered. The Ethiopian people have risen up to take back their beloved nation. What the woyane regime is doing is trying to prolong its stay in power by lying, villifying, and creating divisions among people. That is a sign of a desperation and a clear indication of a regime on its last breath. The woynes agents posing as Eritreans is just ridiculous. No one knows the woyanes better than the Eritreans. They can’t fool no one.
God bless Eritrea and Ethiopia. The day we both sit down and have coffee together is not far. Until then, Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone. Peace.

  9. I like this conversation going on here, guys. BTW, i am an Ethiopian woman married to an Eritrean man. Keep the good job, Ethiopia Review. I love your website, you´re my favorite.

  10. Edena,

Please be assured that when everything is said and done, the Ethiopians and Eritreans are brothers and sisters and I guarantee you the time is not far when they will live side by side in peace and tranquility to the shigrin of the weyane and its supporters. What the Ethiopian owe is Eritrean and what the Eritreans owe is Ethiopian. So where is the problem. Long live Eritrea! Long live Ethiopia!

  11. The worst thing for Ethiopia is not to lose all the ports it once used to have but to lose the hearts and the minds, the love and the ingenuity of the people of Eretria.

To believe or think that Ethiopia and Eretria will live together in peace like Canada and the United States or like the United States and Mexico is not like a dream that may never come true. In fact, every person from both countries has a vision, not a dream that calls for Joseph or Daniel to interpret, that one day, despite all the obstacles from Meles Zenawi and his political advisors, the two countries will realize that they cannot live by themselves without the help of each other, so the bond between the two is too strong that no one could break, and this bond is eternal that lives forever. On the surface or on the map the two countries may look different because of the artificial boundary lines between them; however, on the inside of the Eritrean and the Ethiopian people there are indispensable minerals – love and grace, faith and trust that are more valuable than perishable gold and diamond.

Forgetting the old wrongs each country may have committed against the other, advocating lasting peace and denouncing hatred, heralding a new era and the advent of new democracy, dancing and rejoicing on the street, in the Church, in the Synagogue, in the Mosque, at home, and at school, Ethiopia and Eretria one day will announce officially to the whole world that they are the only two charming sisters pledged to live together in peace, come prosperity or hunger, death or life.

Whoever rule over them – kings or queens, princes or princesses, land lords or feudal, priests or rabbis, imams or Prime ministers – Ethiopia and Eretria are inseparable because they are bound by blood, marriage, religion, culture, and geography. Ethiopia and Eretria are two identical twins hard to identify, hard to tell the difference between the two. For example, if one person from Ethiopia and one from Eretria go aboard, let us say go to Europe or to America, the first question people from Europe or America ask the two individuals will be: “Are you boys or girls from Ethiopia or from Eretria?” The reason they ask this type of question is that the two persons have the same features or looks.

Some Ethiopian politicians may try hard to separate the two by telling that Ethiopians don’t look like the Eritreans or vice versa. Of course, some fools may listen to them, for “Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.” There are some sinister thoughts, perhaps from both sides, that urge people to think that Ethiopia and Eretria are two discrete countries that live forever as adversaries rather than friends always. The truth is that if all the 50 states of the United States have lived together in peace and prosperity all these years, except the one incident – the Civil War – why is it unimaginable for Ethiopia and Eretria to live together in harmony? The difference between Ethiopia and Eretria is not as deep as the Ocean, or it is not as the difference between the Palestinians and the Israelis or between the Ethiopian black Jews and the Israelis white Jews.
Even the Palestinians are now endeavoring to establish their own state, very friendly to Israel even though the enmity between the two nations is as old as the Mount of Hebron, but Ethiopia and Eretria have been friends forever and remain to be so.

More than anything else, there is no ocean or big river or big mountain that stands between the two countries as a dividing line; the only dividing line between the two countries for the time being is Woyanne’s standing army. More over, most Ethiopians and many Eritreans speak Amharic, and the people of the two nations intermarry. Therefore, the factors that separate the two countries are less than the ones that unite them, and one day, God willing, Eritrea and Ethiopia will be one again.

  12. It’s quite rare that I give my 5 cents on Eritro-Ethiopian topics. But here I see very encouraging mind-exchanges taking place.

Rest assured, Eritreans in general have no ill intentions towards Ethiopians or the country. From day one we Eritreans wanted a united and a prosporous Ethiopian nation. Because it is to our benefit to have a stable and well to do neighbor. If you were (and still are) told differently, the only thing I can say is: It´s wrong and not true. Who ever does spread this false accusation might have it´s own agenda on mind. Before the madness started in 1998 Addis Abeba had major privileges for using Eritrean sea ports. That was the case then and when the time is ripe this could happen again.

But bear in mind, there is one thing Eritreans will never ever will have patience for. When anyone comes and debates and makes Eritrean sovereignty and it´s sea ports or pieces of it´s land a topic. There and then the cooperation comes to a halt. My Ethiopian friends you have to understand the Eritrean phsyche.

After 500 yrs of successive colonial powers. We are sick and tired of foreign ppl presiding over our destiny. We have seen Turkish, Egyptian, Italian, British and finally Ethiopian troops come and subjugate our ppl. That has stoppped for once and ever in 1991. We have paid long and costly to see this day of our dreams come true.

But all said and done we are willing to forget and focus on a bright future. And we are ready to reach our hands to true Ethiopians with peace and respect on their mind. The same as we have done with our Sudanese brothers.

Eritreans are a hard working and god fearing ppl, I can also say that about true Ethiopians. When we put our hands together we will reach the mountain top and make this corner the envy of the rest of Africa.

Where there is a will there is a way.
    Thank you for your time!

    Adulis

  13. As someone famous once said, it is in times of crisis that one’s true character is revealed. So what we now know about Isias Afworki, is that he and his government are true friends to our people. A friend will stand by your side through thick and thin. And whenever everyone have deserted you they still will be your friends. I never thought I would be saying this but I’m filled with admiration for Isias Afworki and his government. Thank you and Gud bless.
