Tegbar League urges American music stars Beyonce Knowles, Janet Jackson and 50-Cent to stay away from Ethiopia during next month’s millennium festival in Addis Ababa organized by the Meles regime in Ethiopia. The says:
“… it was with great shock that we learned about your acceptance to perform at a grand party for the upcoming Ethiopian millennium in Addis Ababa. If for nothing else, for your own safety, please do not come to Ethiopia to party next month. Ethiopia currently is not a place for partying. It is a place where the people are being massacred, tortured, raped, and terrorized.”

can any one convey this message to these fellas!
This is a very good warning if they realy have good mind; I wish they had come to their sence after reading the messege.
I thank TEGBAR LEAGUE for its effort.
Hi;
I may not support the millenium celebration but urging people, stars, not to come to Addis is meaningless. If you are brave enough you (we) can do civil disobedience infront of this world wide known artists . it will have an advantages to have coverage in world medias to least.
Hence i did not understand the message of this letter.
STONE BETWEEN MY TOES,
I do not know what some people is talking about. The African American well known singers well aware about the current situation in Ethiopia. They have their own information sources in Addiss Ababa. If Ethiopian is not safe for them and for other visitors the American embassy does not allow them to come to Ethiopia. Some individuals do not strugging angainst Meles’s regime, instead, they are acting against their national identity, and against their own people and country.
Please comeback to your normal ways of thinking. you have to identify between country and its’ people and the powerholders. Do not fool yourself, the train is working and its driver is matured enough.
This Hip Hop and R&B singers are called by Meles and Al-Amodi to inject the Ethiopian youth the useless and corrupt Hip Hop culture. I see no other reason for that. a corrupted youth is no good for himself or his family or his country. I think they should take the concert to Tigray Meqele
It would be a good idea if you put the warning message for their respective fan website
But why are we agaist the celebration?????When do the the Ethiopian people celebrate mellinium which is our identity?????Can we deny the mellinium(our identity) no matter who celebrates it???What is wrong if important figures are seen in Ethiopia even if it is a war zone????As an Ethiopian I am totally discouraged by this message. For me this message is selfish “Ene kemotku serdo aybkel”.I would like to know the reaction of true Ethiopians.Mellinium is not about Woyane;it is about the people of Ethiopia;and it is high time to show who we are to the world!!!Whether good or bad.Afterall it is the way we market ourselves to the outside world which determines their support. I personally am against this move.Ethiopia is our homeland and mellinium is one of our strong identity!!!!And This message is against our common interest which is our identity.I don’t think no one feels pity for this poor nation if we don’t celebrate our mellinium;to the contrary it is a good opportunity for everyone (the oppressed and the opressor) to be recognized in the world.
Here is Beyonce’s contact information. I called the number and talked to the receptionist who promissed to pass on the message:

Ethiopia right now is not a place to party it is one of the place where humans are leading a sub human life.you do not need to go far to rural areas.right in the in “Addis”, where, there more shanty houses than buildings most people eat once if not none per day.
I am American and stumbled upon this site while looking for ingformation regarding the celebration you are speaking of. I’m surprised to read such negative comments towards your country. As a matter of fact in reading them i don’t think i’d ever want to visit Ethiopia. Some comments portray the country as if it’s an Iraq part 2, as if there is a full out war going on in Addis. Any country has it’s good and bad, even the US. If i went to a site and spoke of the homeless living in New York city or of the garbage that is on the streets people would think twice about ever visiting but we all know that is not the case. Millions come to New York every year. I feel that instead of focusing on the bad you should focus on the good of your country. Wouldn’t Americans that love to spend money be good for your economy? Turning people off to visitng your country is not going to help the current economic situation over there. It hits closer to home when you see things for yourself and motivates you to help more. Maybe an American visiting would see the poverty level and decide to donate money or start a school. I am curious as to what is the truth about Ehtiopia. Is the situation that bad where it is unsafe for an American or anyone to travel there? If it were that bad the US government would restrict travel to your country and it is my understanding that currently that is not the situation over there.
Jazzy I’m afraid that you are totally out of tune about the current situation in Ethiopia. Like you said, you only stumbled upon this site, while seeking some info. You are absolutely right to question, but shouldn’t be worthwhile to get good information before jumping on conclusion? Any way these people in Ethiopia love visitors who come from anywhere in the world with good intention and friendship.
Briefly for your own knowledge, the people throughout Ethiopia are going through unbelievably rough time for the last 30+ years and the current government in power for 17 years is punishing the people with utmost cruelty and nonhuman treatment. At this juncture specially around the upcoming Ethio-millenium the population is all determine to make a statement that they don’t have anything to celebrate but to mourns their murdered, kidnapped, disappeared loved ones. On the other hand, the cruel dictator and his cronies are wasting millions of dollars for the so-called celebration to fool the whole world. Please get involved to help bring a change, after all we are the children of the mother EARTH. Get info around U.S. Congress. Many US congressmen are struggling to help establish long lasting remedy for the people of Ethiopia in contrast to certain few in power who are paid to protect the dictator’s interest.
make a move i will blow your head asusual
Selam to you all,
Despite what most of you have said about Ethiopia and the situation there, I will be going there at the end of the month. I will celebrate and welcome the coming millennium with my family and friends. We do celebrate New Year in Ethiopia regardless of who is in power at Arat Kilo Palace. Woyane is not fooling me” lol ya all!
Peace to Ethiopia!
