Ethiopia Woyanne has dismissed a “virtual” demarcation of its border with Eritrea, just a day after Asmara accepted the move by an independent boundary commission.

The two nations have been deadlocked in a dispute over their 1,000km border since a 2002 decision by the Hague-based commission gave the flashpoint town of Badme to Eritrea.

The commission, set up by a peace deal ending a 1998-2000 war, “virtually” demarcated the border late last year based on the 2002 decision after the two sides failed to come to an agreement on their shared frontier.

“Virtual demarcation is a legal nonsense,” Wahade Belay, Ethiopia’s Woyanne’s foreign ministry spokesman, said on Thursday.

“It is invalid and unacceptable … No border demarcation is recognised unless the lines are drawn on the ground and pillars are posted based on the agreement of both Ethiopia and Eritrea.”

Troops demand

On Wednesday, Eritrea said it accepted the ruling and called on Ethiopia to remove its troops from Eritrean soil.

“Now after five years of revolving around the basic problem, the matter has finally been resolved through a virtual demarcation of the border,” a statement published in the English-language Eritrea Profile newspaper said.

Thousands of troops face each other along the disputed border.

In the statement, Eritrea said it would pursue legal measures to evict Ethiopian soldiers from territory awarded to Asmara by the 2002 ruling.

“However, if legal proceedings do not result in the appropriate outcome, then the Eritrean people have other internationally approved choices,” the government-owned paper stated, without describing what those options were.

Analysts and diplomats fear an incident along the frontier could spiral out of control and provoke a full-scale war.

የአየለ ጫሚሶ አቤቱታ ጭብጥ “በአቶ ተመስገን ዘውዴ የሚመራው ቡድን በሕጋዊ ፓርቲያችን ላይ ሕዝቡን በማነሳሳት የተቃውሞ ሰልፍ ሊጠራብንና ሁከት ሊያስነሳብን ነው” የሚል ሲሆን በትናንትናው እለት አቶ አየለ ጫሚሶና ተባባሪዎቻችው በዮርዳኖስ ሆቴል ባደረጉት አስቸኳይ ስብሰባ ማመልከቻው አልቆ ለወያኔ/ኢህአዴግ ተወካይ አቶ ሽፈራው ቀርቧል፡፡

የወያኔ/ኢህአዴግ ተወካዩ ጭብጡን ከመረመሩ በኋላ መጀመሪያ ግለሰቦቹ የፓርቲ አባልነታቸው ይሰረዝ ባሉት መሠረት በዛሬው የእነ ተመስገን ዘውዴ የቅንጅት አባልነት ተሰርዟል ተብሏል፡፡

የአየለ ጫሚሶ ቡድን “የእሳት አደጋ ጥሪ” ያሉትን የነ አቶ ተመስገንን ያለመከሰስ መብት መነሳት የጠየቁበት ምክንያት ሰሞኑን ከህዝብ የሚሰነዘርባቸው ወቀሳና ቁጣ አስደንግጧቸው ነው ይላሉ ታዛቢዎች፡፡

የቅንጅት አርማና ስያሜ ለሌላ በመሰጠቱ በፓርቲው ስም ከዚህ በኋላ መንቀሳቀስ አይቻልም በማለት ምርጫ ቦርድ በማስጠንቀቁና ‹ቀጣዩ የትግል ጉዞ› ምን መሆን አለበት በሚሉት አጀንዳዎች ዙርያ ለላእላይ ም/ቤት አባላት በዛሬው እለት አቶ አባይነህ ብርሃኑ ያቀረቡት የስብሰባ ጥሪ ጥቂት የቀድሞ መኢአድ አባላት ብቻ በመገኘታቸው ሳይሳካ ቀርቷል፡፡

በተጠባባቂ ሊቀመንበርነት ስልጣን ከፓርቲው ህገ ደንብ ውጭ በተሾሙት በአቶ አባይነህ የሚመራው ቡድን በርካታ ደጋፊዎች አሉን ባለው ደሴ፤ ባህር ዳርና ጎንደር በመሄድ በምርጫ 97 ወቅት የቅንጅት ተመራጭ የነበሩ ግለሰቦችን በየቤታቸው በመሄድ ለማነጋገር እያደረገ የነበረው ጥረት ተቃውሞ በገጠመው ማግስት የጠራው የላእላይ ም/ቤት ስብሰባ የተወሰኑ አባላትን ብቻ ማግኘቱ የቡድኑን ዘላቂነት አጠያያቂ አድርጎታል፡፡

በተቀዳሚ ም/ሊቀመንበር ብርቱካን ሚደቅሳ የሚመራው የቅንጅት ለአንድነትና ለዴሞክራሲ ፓርቲ አመራር በመላ አገሪቱ እያካሄደ ያለው ደጋፊውን የማነጋገር እንቅስቃሴ ከህዝቡ ከፍተኛ አቀባበል እየተደረገለት መሆኑን የፕሮግራሙ አስተባባሪ አቶ አለማየሁ የኔነህ ለዜና አገልግሎቱ ገለጹ፡፡

አመራሩ የመጀመርያውን ዙር እንቅስቀዋሴ ባደረጉበት የደቡብ ክልል የተለያዩ ከተማዎች በክልሉ ስላለው ፖለቲካዊ፤ ማህበራዊና ኢኮኖሚያዊ ችግሮች ሰፊ ውይይት የተለያዩ ተካሂዷል፡፡

በምርጫ 97 ወቅት ታይቶ የነበረው የዴሞክራሲና የፍትህ ጭላንጭል በተፈተረው ቀውስ ወደ ባሰ አዘቅት ይገባል የሚል ፍርሃት አድሮባቸው እንደነበር በውይይቱ ወቅት የገለጹት ተሳታፊዎቹ ያንን ተስፋ ከማምከን የበለጠ በደል እንደማይኖር ተናግረዋል፡፡

የጎፋ ነዋሪዎች ‹‹በአመራሩ ላይ ያለን ተስፋ ቀቢጻዊ አይደለም፡፡›› በማለት በትናንትናው እለት በሳውላ ከተማ በተካሄደው ውይይት ላይ ያላቸውን ቁርጠኝነት አሳይተዋል፡፡

የፓርቲው የስራ አስፈጻሚ አባል የሆኑት ኢ/ር ግዛቸው ሽፈራው የክልሉ ህዝብ ሳየውን ተነሳሽነት አስመልክቶ ያላቸውን አስተያት ሲገልጹ ‹‹አበረታችና የተካሄደውን ዘርፈ ብዙ ትግል ተገቢውን መስመር እንደያዘ የሚያመለክት ነው፡፡›› ብለዋል፡፡

የቡታጅራ፤ የሃድያ፤ የጋሞና የወላይታ ህዝብ ለልኡካኑ አበረታች የሆኑ የትግል ቃል ኪዳኖችን የገባ ሲሆን በተለይ የፓርቲው ስያሜ የሆነው የቅንጅት ለአንድነትና ለዴሞክራሲ ፓርቲ ሰርተፍኬት አየለ ጫሚሶ ለተባለ ግለሰብ መሰጠቱ ቁጣቸውን ቀስቅሷል፡፡ ምርጫ ቦርድ የወሰደው እርምጃ ከወያኔ አለቆቹ የወረደለትን መመርያ ለመፈጸም ብቻ ቢሆንም በሚሊዮን በሚቆጠረው የፓርቲው ደጋፊና መራጭ ህዝብ ላይ የተፈጸመ ደባ ነው ብለዋል፡፡

በዛሬው እለት በወላይታ አረካ ከተማ ላይ ተመሳሳይ ውይይት የተካሄደ ሲሆን በቀጣይ ቀናት ሻሸመኔ፤ ዝዋይ፤ መቂ፤ ሞጆና ደብረ ዘይት ከተሞች ላይ ሰፊ ዝግጅቶች እንደሚካሄዱ ደረሱን መረጃዎች ያመለክታሉ፡፡

She was gunning for it. Every step built confidence.

Every step led her to her goal.

Adenech Zekiros of Ethiopia wanted to finish the marathon at Sunday’s P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon with her personal-best time – under 2 hours, 27 minutes and 28 seconds.

But almost four minutes had passed that mark before she crossed the finish line. Was she disappointed?

“No,” she said through an interpreter. “I’m still the winner.”

Zekiros, 25, was the first female runner to finish, defending her 2007 title.

Although she didn’t break her personal record, Zekiros did break the course record with a time of 2:31:14, beating the previous record by 19 seconds. Fellow Ethiopian Shitaye Gemechu ran 2:31:33 in 2004.

“The other runners didn’t run fast enough, so I couldn’t make it to 2:27,” said Zekiros, who took the lead after Mile 13 of the 26.2 mile-course.

Zekiros added that the weather helped her break the course record.

She said last year’s race was too cold, but this year the weather was perfect.

It was about 52 degrees at the 7:40 a.m. start time.

Salomie Getnet of Ethiopia was runner-up for the second consecutive year with a time of 2:34:01 – 1:11 better than she ran last year. Fellow countrywoman Asnakech Mengistru was third.

Sunday’s marathon meant a lot more for 39 American women. Each was trying to run under 2:47 to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials – the Boston Marathon in April.

But just eight runners were able to do so, led by Linda Sommers Smith of Arroyo Grande, Calif. Smith finished fourth with a time of 2:41:04.

Sally Meyerhoff’s marathon debut was a success. The 24-year-old Tempe native, who ran cross country at Phoenix Mountain Pointe and was an All-American at Duke, finished sixth at 2:42:46.

“I’m just happy (to finish),” said Meyerhoff, who ran 98 seconds faster than the next local finisher, Susan Loken. “I was in a lot of pain in the last couple of miles.”

The other runners who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials were Kristen Henehan of Silver Spring, Md., Allison Kerr of Vacaville, Colo., Betsey Keever of San Francisco, Michele Suszek of Aurora, Colo., and Lisa Thomas of Alexandria, Va.

በነገው እለት የሚጀመረውን በተለያዩ ክልሎች በመዘዋወር የፓርቲውን ደጋፊዎች የማነጋገር አጀንዳ በቂ ዝግጅት ሲደረግበት እንደቆየ አንድ የሥራ አስፈፃሚ አባል ገልፀውልናል፡፡ የአመራር አባላቱ በውጭ አገራት ሲያካሂዱ የነበሩትን እንቅስቃሴ አጠናቀው እንደተመለሱ ለምን በአገር ውስጥ ያሉ ደጋፊዎቻቸውን ማነጋገር አልጀመሩም በሚል ጥያቄ ያቀረብንላቸው እኚሁ የሥራ አስፈፃሚ አባል ሲመልሱ “በፓርቲው አመራር መካከል የተፈጠረው ልዩነት እየሰፋ የሚሄድ ስለነበርና ችግሩን አንድ መቋጫ ላይ ሳናደርስ ይህን ሰፊና ጥልቅ ተግባር ለመጀመር አልቻልንም” በማለት አሁን ግን “በድርጅቱ ሕግ ደንብ መሠረት አስፈላጊ እርምጃዎች ስለተወሰዱና ዝግጅቱም ስለተጠናቀቀ ሕዝባዊውን ተልእኮ በጠንካራ አመራር እንወጣዋለን” ብለዋል፡፡

የመጀመሪያው የልኡኩ ጉዞ የሚሆነው በደቡብ ክልል ሲሆን ለዚህም ቅድመ ዝግጅቶች መጠናቀቃቸውና ሕዝቡም የአመራሩን መምጣት በመጠባበቅ ላይ መሆኑን ገልፀዋል፡፡

የልኡካን ቡድኑ በከተሞች አካባቢ ብቻ ሳይወሰን ራቅ ወዳሉ የገጠር መንደሮች ሳይቀር በመሄድ የአገሪቱ መሠረት የሆነውን አርሶ አደር ወገን ጭምር እንደሚያነጋግሩ ጨምረው አስታውቀዋል፡፡
