The founding member of the Woyanne tribal junta in Ethiopia, Ato Sebhat Nega, told a meeting in Washington DC over the weekend that his party made a mistake in giving away the Port of Assab.
Ato Sebhat Nega, the most senior member of the Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne) and its politburo, explained further that his regime will soon reach a decision on Assab.
Ato Sebhat said that in an answer to a woman who asked him what his position was regarding Assab, according to a member of the Ethiopian Review Intelligence Unit who attended the meeting.
The predominantly Tigrean audience at the Woyanne-occupied Ethiopian embassy’s meeting hall was shocked by Sebhat Nega’s answer. It is a 180-degree-turn from the long-held position of the Woyanne regime.
The decision by most of the Ethiopian opposition parties to cooperate with the government of Eritrea is sending a chill through the spines of Woyanne leaders. It is a time of desperation for Sebhat Nega and his Woyanne clique. So it should not be a surprise for their leaders to talk about Ethiopia’s need for sea port now, after dismissing such a question for the past 18th years.
But the question by Ethiopians regarding “sea port” has recently been answered to their satisfaction by President Isayas Afwerki of Eritrea.
President Isaias’ clear and straight forward answer regarding this issue in a recent interview with Ethiopian Review and EPPF has no doubt left the Woyanne regime naked and further exposed its anti-Ethiopia stand. In the interview, President Isaias said regarding cooperation on sea port, “the sky is the limit.” This answer is a bombshell inside the Woyanne camp.
Meanwhile, a film about “Sea Port” that was produced with the approval of the Woyanne junta, is currently being promoted in the Diaspora with the help of Ethiomedia.com.

They were thoroughly defeated at Dhtum, on the Asseb front. After that defeat they agreed to sign the Algiers agreement.
Now that the Ethiopian people have heard the real story from President Isayas himself (thanks to the interview he gave to Elias and Sileshi), the Woyanne higher ups are in panic mode. They are dusting off the Asseb card hoping to fool Ethiopians in the diaspora and fragment the opposition so they can stay in power indefinitely. Fortunately this time their cries and moans will fall on deaf ears. The Ethiopian people know who their enemies and friends are, they are not going to be fooled twice.

The western/colonial powers since the time of Emperor Yohannis and Menelik have always wanted to land lock Ethiopia due to them not wanting her to prosper economically and integrate with world powers. They knew if Ethiopia did or could do this, they would not have much influence in the region and they would have a competitor for natural resources as a powerhouse of the region.
Without Asseb, it will not be possible for Ethiopia to grow economically and be self sufficient. Ethiopia now lives on handouts. Of course, it was never a top priority since during the war with Eritrea she could not develop and priority was to put the country together then.
I think Asseb will always be a burning issue for Ethiopia and Ethiopians, I hope Arbegnoch and others will not negotiate on something that historically Ethiopia has every right to and they’ll let the public decide and not some secret deals with Eritrean leadership… of which Woyane totally has done as much as I can’t stand them.

I am not surprised by the claim made by Mr. Nega that his organization will take a new stand regarding ASSAB. The Eritrean President refused to sit and talk to Weyane because he knew what they were cooking with their American Masters. The Weyane told us time and time again that the war was about Badme and once they lost their argument in the court – they keep mentioning about the people been divided and so on. We knew why they want to seat down and talk. Their attempt to capture Assab at the end of the 2000 war was a net loss and that is why they run to sign a document in Algeria. A lot of Ethiopians were confused and they were told that Eritrea wants destroy Ethiopia when the Weyane is the one who is doing it.

Do you know that at the end of 2000 war Weyane tried to capture Assab by a special Tigrian army know as “Kirbit”. They want to show the Ethiopian that the Tigrian army was more superior to the other Ethiopian army and they decided to capture Assab only to be wiped out. It is said that the Ethiopian Seyom Mesfin refused to sign a document in Algeria for weeks hoping that if Assab is captured by the Weyane army, he could dictate a new term and conditions. Once he learned that the Tigrian army was wiped out in the desert – he went on knocking on the Eritrean delegation hotel room to sign the document fast. It is also said – Bill Clinton called Meles to sign the document fast once while he makes another call to the Eritrean leadership to stop the counter attack. Clinton new if he did not do that the Weyane will be chased to Addis and it will be the end of their rule. There are a lot of untold stories and it is time for them to be told.

If you have followed Meles interview since 2005 on BBC, he continues to mention that the war was not about Badme. Then what was it? I remember a BBC interviewer asking him if it was not Badme what it was. His answer was that there are other issues that need to be addressed. The journalist even asked him to make public what the issues are and Meles responded no – the issue will only be made outside the public media. Now we know – that Weyane wants to hold Badme to negotiate and ask thinks they could not achieve in the battle ground. So – don’t be surprised about “Nega” taking about Assab. Election is coming and the opposition is taking grassroots – and they need to get support by blaming Eritrea for all economic problems and find an escape goat.

I hope the ER will get an interview made by BBC with crazy Meles and on it – the BBC guy asked him what it will take for Ethiopia to use Eritrean port again. And the response was that if there is a third party guarantee and if there is a lease agreement – then Ethiopia will consider using it. The answer would have been proper if Eritrea was begging Weyane to use port of Assab. Instead, Meles was telling us what he wants and if that is not done there will be no peace. Yes – he can’t say it in public and tell all the people in the world that he must get Assab – that would be a blow to his regime. I am also wondering who the third party guarantor would be? America? I always believe the “No War No Peace” was coined by the Bush administration to bled Eritrea economically, create a public unrest, and make young people defect and so on. Can you imagine that if an Eritrean is able to cross to Ethiopia and other countries, he/she will get a green card to USA? The Asab and/or at that matter the Ethiopian and Eritrean Afar issue being solved the right way will serve the best and long term interest to the Ethiopian and Eritrean people. Ethiopia gets her seacoast back means the relationship between Ethiopians and Eritreans becomes closer, opener and trustworthy.
But this must not happen because what Sebhat and his clicks are saying/doing so. They are declared time after time saying “Ethiopian doesn’t need a seacoast.” meles himself rejected the former USA president opinion about the Asab port.
President issayas and Eritreans need to play the real politic here. Ethiopia not having a seacoast will be the first and will be an everlasting problem between Ethiopia and Eritrea. They must see it this way. It is there and it will be always even worst than what is now. They have to face the reality. And they have to use it playing politics here against the Sebhat group.
They have to negotiate and signed written documents with trusted and true Ethiopia opposition groups that are standing for one and united Ethiopia. They also can invite opposition parties that are in Ethiopia, too.
Giving access to Ethiopian opposition groups in Asab will be the fact finding testimony about and that will make Ethiopians to believe in it.
As far as the old Sebhat behaviour here about is telling us that they are in a big trouble. With in less than a year there will be election in Ethiopia. He is playing here politics preparing for that very very determine election for Meles and himself in Tigry. Tigry will be the flash focus point to the 2010 election between the former TPLFs and the Meles and Sebhat groups that are acting Tigry is their private property.
Remember what the Meles and Sebhat groups have done towards the x-TPLF founding members. Siye, Tsadkan, Gebru and others are waiting to win the 2010 election in Tigry. This is the high time to test their commitment to Ethiopia as they know woyane is attacking and affecting Ethiopia from Tigry where they themselves are directly associating with. They have to use their close relationship with Tigry to defeat woyane from its root/base there. The questions being asked at this Time in USA was a well thought and calculated idea by woyanes back home. The woman (Girl) asked this question didn’t ask because of she wanted to know the answer about. She must be part of the cheating plot and agreed to do so during the meeting. .

Someone should ask these genocidal criminals how many Ethiopian lives they sacrificed needlessly in the desert trying to capture Assab, where there was no border disputes. Just because they had so much wealth and power all of a sudden, they thought they could grab whatever they wanted and play with human lives. They probably feel like they are gods.
The main reason the Woyanes are in power is because the succeded in dividing the Ethiopian people. When the woyanes waged war against Eritrea, it was solely to take Assab. Many of them cheered and hope the woyane win. What they did not know is that Assab meant to serve as abbay tigray*s port not for Ethiopia. You want to know the fact ask any Eritrean. Would you please tell Old Man Nega that Eritrean State was created by the Italian after they bought a piece of afar land know as “Assab”. That is how the Italian entered Africa and later they were invited to take Massawa by the British. We can argue that Assab was the first colonized land by the Italian and the rest of what is known today as Eritrea was created after the Italian made a boder deal with France, British and Ethiopia. So – if we look back history – there is no Eritrea without Assab. I can understand for those who say that we need Assab for Ethiopia but claiming that Assab was Ethiopia is wrong. Either we accept Eritrean independence or reject it. Any way – it has been 18 years since Eritrea became independent and any argument will just end up been a talk. Remember – Eritrean was forced to join Ethiopia by force in 1962. So we are talking about 30 yrs been part of Ethiopia with a bloody war and 18 years free and independent and locked up in a border issue. So – if you think of it there are more than 50% of Eritrean population who are young and they have no clue about Ethiopia.
So – lets stop this non sense and lets look for a better relationship and one way or another we will have to live together, marry each other, date each other and maybe fight a common enemy together cause we are in the worst part of the world. We Need each other. That means Ethiopia will use Assab and all Eritrean ports and Eritreans will be delighted to have thier brothers and sisters from the south to come to their sea port and do business.

Yes Ethiopia needs not only Asab port, but also Djibouti, Mombasa, Mogadishu, Barbara etc. But who is preventing Ethiopia from using Asab and Massawa? TPLF would not use Eritrean ports for free unless they owned them by force. Sorry Asab’s legal owners are Eritreans and have paid a lot to ascertain their ownership. Any attempt by TPLF to occupy Asab by force will only lead to another cycle of war and destructions to both sisterly nations. Legally Ethiopia had every right to demand Djibouti to be returned after the 99 year lease, just like China took control of Hong Kong from Britain. DERG was afraid to confront France for the return of Djibouti and TPLF is afraid to confront U.S. and France the present occupiers of the territory. They rather settled to the alms that U.S. and France pay TPLF in the form of ‘assistance’ Instead they picked on Asab, thinking Eritrea is an easy target militarily. We Ethiopian should face the reality and accept that Asab belongs to Eritrea and use it for free instead of paying exorbitant port fee for the foreign owners of Djibouti, which has made skyrocketing cost of living in the country. Asab was sold and you can not claim sold item while Djibouti was rented and rented property goes back to the legal owner after the lease expire. We gave Asab to Eritrea is another myth or fiction that TPLF claim similar to granting Eritrean Independence in 1993!
