Obama scolded Ethiopia’s dictator Meles Zenawi

U.S. President Barack Obama scolded Ethiopia’s dictator Meles Zenawi during a brief one-to-one encounter at the G20 meeting in London on April 2. Obama reportedly told Meles that the human rights condition in Ethiopia is deplorable and unacceptable.

Following a meeting with Obama, Meles Zenawi, who was invited to represent New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) at the G20 meeting, abruptly canceled a press conference he was about to give.

“His people gave no reasons for this. But insiders in the press center said Zenawi was worried about the kind of questions that were going to be put to him concerning human rights violations within Ethiopia and his dealing with his opponents and Ethiopia’s neighbors,” Henry Gombya of BSN reported.

“The African continent really wasn’t heard; South African President Motlanthe said he didn’t speak for the continent and Meles Zenawi cowered in the shadows,” Gombya writes.

  1. Elias, keep up the good work you have been doing day after day. I thank you for this good news, the truth need to be told about the killer of our Ethiopian people—the real Satan Meles. Lately, I have been very disappointed to read untruth favorable news about Meles on another popular Ethiopian web site intentionally to increase Woyane readers,at least, it seems that way. To begin with that monkey face dictator Meles shouldn’t have been invited to the summit.

  2. Thank you president Obama for considering the suffering of the Ethiopia people. Hope you and the American people will support us to get rid of this evil person.

    God bless you

    Ine

  3. This guy looks like rat hit hard on its tail. I saw his pic at the g-20. With out the west’s help he’s nothing, nobody. As the saying goes, “the higher the monkey climbs a tree the more it is exposing its ass”. It turn out g-20 wasn’t a place to deceive the world but to be on the open naked, the people around him looks like they are ashamed of being with him. Any way, this should be the beginning for Ethiopians around the world. Follow him wherever he goes. Isolate any hodam in the diaspora. If suspected of being one of the hodams (investigate — may be it is a good idea to have intelligence services of Diaspora’s own like Elias’s ER Intelligence Unity). Let the world be hell for Woyannes.

  4. Yes Meles did not speak for Africa at the G 20 meeting in London on April 2, 2009. You know why he did not speak? This is simply because he can not speak. He can not speak because he is not a leader with a vision for Africa’s development and he is not a leader with courage to speak about development, human rights and democracy in Africa. He is a simple murderer, dictator and criminal. On a meeting were democratic and visionary leaders like president Barack Obama are gathered, it was really unfair to invite a dictator leader Meles to attend this meeting.

Let me tell you this, Meles, he can not spear for “his county” Ethiopia let alone for Africa. He spent the last 17 years killing his own people and he spent the last 2 years killing the people of neighboring Somalia people. Remember opposition party members and the president of Andinet part judge Birtukan Medeksa are still in prison. This criminal is planning to prolong his criminal act for the next 5 or so years after this coming election.

So how can we expect something worthy from this criminal person at this G 20 meeting? Other leaders were not happy to see this person on this meeting. I think, if Meles him self has a real flesh and blood, but he doesn’t have, he would no be happy to attend this historic meeting, G 20 submits

  5. I just want to know the source of the news. Who heard Obama scolded Meles? Infact, that is what many of Ethiopians want to hear. Justice to Ethiopian people. It’s a shame that a person who represented Africa didn’t speak for Africans. But the fact is a brutal dictator could not represent Ethiopia and the whole continent. In that sense it is acceptable. I hope, Mr. Obama take a note of this cancellation of press conference and will in the short run help Ethiopians to get their freedom on their own land. May God bless Mr. Obama and the USA!

  6. I bet Obama said to Meles, ‘nice to meet you my friend, we really need dowm there holding up. I know there are problems with human rights and stuff in you country but I don’t really care, you know what I mean…”

Guys, stop looking for change from outside. I’m tired of reading the same stupid things all the time.

    Selome replies:

I just wanted to say Thank you John. Nobody in the western front cares about Africa.

  7. The title sucks! As an Ethiopian I feel shame if this is happened on my Prime Minister.

Obama will not do this. There is human right oppression in Ethiopia, but After all He represent My country, He holds my country’s flag, the Green, Yellow and Red that is given from above. This is unacceplable news.

If Obama did this shame on Obama, There is nothing wrong with Meles. Obama should respect all Leaders. And Am sorry to So called “Ethiopian” Review. This was not what Ethiopiawinet means.

  8. Dear ALL,

The most important episode is that MELES was not in a position
to speak on stage and in the middle of all these dignitaries and top leaders of the world.
This would be a life time boasting for him and his brutal cadres, who assassinated our brothers and sisters on day light.
If you have observed the pictures, he was hiding himself like
a rat at the back corner of the stage.

    Thank you Elias.
    You are always great

  9. Please..please..!!! people… Don’t expect something from Obama..that’s redicules….if there is change have to be done or kicked this Woyane Thugs..it’s WE..!! Ethiopians have to make it possible..let’s get to the reality and start focusing at home helping our brothers in arms who fight the woyane thugs..

  10. your excellency the president of the united states
what Africa expects from you is mostly to keep the promice you gave during your inaguration the warning to African Dictators and implement free and fair election with all parties concerned involved.

Dictators like Meles of ethiopia are friendly to the west while they are killing this anicient and symbolic nation of Africa.
    dear presedent

I think you are a GOD sent to save ethiopia from these group of destructors.

  11. Listen all EPRDF supporters, dont fool yourself, dont let others think for you. Please please use your own mind and start questioning.Thats the only best thing you can do right now.We all know that Meles is Ethiopian PM and according to Ethiopian tradition we all have respect for the post whoever is siiting there. But we the oppositions have absolute right to oppose what the PM is doing. We are not opposing for the sake of opposing what woyane is doing. For me last week was one of the darkest day in Ethiopian military history.I heared that the PM said ‘I am not suppose to report on Ethiopian Soldier who died and wounded in Somalia…’ What a shame??? These guys are Ethiopian soldiers who were fighting for ‘protecting Ethiopia from the upcoming threat’…as per woyanne. But for me ,as an oppositionist, they were fighting for the Political advantage of EPRDF.Whatever the reason behind is,Meles and all EPRDF supporters should know that the soldiers were dedicated for Ethiopian Flag and the government used the tax payers money to finance this operation. This means we all Ethiopians are stakeholders for that matter. Now EPRDF supporters, let me ask you one thing if one of the dead or wounded soldier is your brother,do you really accept what the PM said to his Parlamient??? Absolutely not.AS to my understanding the PM doesnt care about the lives of Ethiopian soldiers,Shame but he is still the Field Marshal of Ethiopian Army.If he is not concerned about his own Soldiers then tell me for whom he is responsible to???? Comn EPRDF guys ASK THE PM WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR SOLDIERS,trust you all are mature enough to question your leader, dont you?For Agazi and Federal Police memebers the PM will betray you one day as he did for those who died in Somalia.
    MAY GOD BLESS ETHIOPIA

  12. When you see the picture of Meles, it looks he is upset.

His cadre(dog) standing by him looks as if he is angry at

Obama, and trying to show his loyality to Meles.

However, no scolding will bring change to Ethiopian peoples

suffering. It is better to keep the dialogue with this

devil. Devil keeps further distance, the more you scold him

and lives comfortahly. Keep devil close by, chain him,

bring him to church, put cross on his head and beat devil

sprit out, send him to hell and let him burn for ever.

I am sure Obama is smart, he knows how to present issues.

    What do you think?

  13. Barack Obama: the modern day Elijah!

The G20 economic encounter between Barack Obama and Meles Zenawi is very similar to the Biblical encounter between Elijah the Prophet and Ahab the King of the Jews.

After the Prophet Elijah spent 3½ years in seclusion as, in the mean time, the rest of the people of the Jews were suffering from a severe famine-breakout because Elijah had prayed to God that the heavens should not pour rain on the land of the Jews, Ahab, the King of the Jews, was very angry on the Prophet Elijah, and he had started searching for Elijah to find him and kill him. However, as soon as Elijah met Ahab, he denounced Ahab without fear for his life by saying to Ahab: “You have abandoned the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baal’s.” (1Kings 18:18) Then Elijah commanded Ahab to meet him on Mount Carmel.

In the same way, as soon as Barack Obama, the modern day Elijah, met Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia’s Ahab, he denounced Meles by telling him “that the human rights condition in Ethiopia is deplorable and unacceptable.” As Elijah ordered Ahab to meet him on Mount Carmel, Barack Obama might have told Meles Zenawi to meet him in Washington, but we are not sure yet, and, for that matter, who wants to see a murderer and a human rights violator, but Elijah did when he saw Ahab; Washington did when it saw Yasser Arafat, the murderer, who killed many Jews.

The G20 economic conference might have been a great success for some of the heads of the States, but it was a total disaster for Meles Zenawi, who was representing the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD).

For failing to articulate and speak out about the multifarious economic needs of Ethiopia and other African states, Meles, in the midst of all the successes the G20 has achieved so far, has totally disappointed, not only Ethiopia but the entire continent of Africa. Therefore, he should have declined in the first place for accepting the invitation to go to the G20 economic conference as the representative of NEPAD.

When he was chosen as NEPAD representative by the African states, and later when he accepted the invitation to the G20, he was engulfing himself with pride and self aggrandizement, but sooner he went ashen at the dinner table when everyone at the dinner ignored him, and he was left alone, putting his two hands on his face, perhaps regretting for accepting his nomination by the African head of states to represent them at the G22 economic conference and for not declining to accept the invitation to the gathering of head of states in London.

Meles Zenawi, the Dictator, had thought that Barack Obama would listen to him as George W. Bush, who left his country in an economic disaster, did for almost eight years. This time, however, Barack Obama new what was going on in Ethiopia before he wanted to hear from Meles Zenawi about the situation in Ethiopia.

When Meles encountered Barack Obama for few minutes, he was frustrated, disillusioned, and confused by Obama’s accusing words that Meles was a violator of the human rights in Ethiopia. The word “deplorable” is a very powerful word that any person could not use on someone unless he/she has a very convincing evidence to use such a harsh word against another person. In this case, Barack Obama has indeed convincing reasons why he has used that powerful word against the head of a state – Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi).

Barack Obama knows that Meles Zenawi has no good records on Human rights in Ethiopia, so he has chosen the right vocabulary for the right person at the right time and at the right place. The right word is deplorable; the right person is Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi); the right time is the London Time; and the right place is where the G20 has convened; that is in London, England.

Accepting, without thinking, the invitation to go to the G20 economic conference is the first mistake Meles has done and the second greatest blunder he has ever committed is his cancellation of the press conference that he has been expected to speak before that great media. Every person at the press conference has been looking for him, but unfortunately he is no where to be found.

The Meles’ refusal to appear before the news media in London reminds me that young man from the tribe of Benjamin, Saul; when Samuel the Prophet was ready to appoint Saul as king of the Israelites in front of the assembled Israelite tribes, Saul was no where to be found, but finally, after a long search, they found him hiding himself among the baggage. (1Samuel 10:20-22) But the Londoners could not find Meles to bring him to the hall where hundreds of reporters had been waiting for Meles to come and speak to them.

I’m quit sure that the sudden cancellation of the press conference by Meles Zenawi was the result of his encounter with the charismatic leader Barack Obama who scolded Meles for failing to respect human rights in Ethiopia.

The word “deplorable” has hit Meles Zenawi very hard and knocked him down and left him unconscious; he could not stand up; he has been hit hard, and that is why he cancelled the press conference and might have gone to his residence in London to seek for medical attention.

There are other convincing reasons why Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi) cancelled the press conference: he has intentionally cancelled the press conference because he has thought that someone may ask him this question: “Mr. Prime Minister, who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Ethiopian civilians on May 7, 2005?” He has cancelled the press conference, for someone may ask him to explain why he has sold a piece of fertile land from Gondar region to the government of Sudan. He has cancelled the Press conference because someone may ask him about the recently discovered mass graves behind the Kaliti Jail area. He has cancelled the press conference knowing that somebody from the media may raise the question why Meles slaughtered the Ogaden’s people and the Gambella tribes. He has cancelled the press conference because someone interested in human rights and cared about the Darfur people may ask him why Meles met with al Bashir a war crime and genocide indicted person and what he has discussed with him. He has purposely cancelled the Press conference because he is afraid of being asked why he put the opposing leader, Birtukan Mideksa, in jail for the second time. He has cancelled the press conference because someone may ask him if he has planned to resign immediately after his term in office is expired in 2010.

Next to the word “deplorable” that might have frightened, dismayed, and shaken Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi) are the eight apocalyptic words by Angela Merkel, Germany’s powerful Chancellor: “The days of secret banking are now over.”

When Meles hears such disturbing words and emails these words back to his wife Jezebel (Azeb Mesfin), what will the two wealthy spouses will think about the money they have been amassing for almost twenty years from the Ethiopian tax payers? Where are they going to hide such a huge amount of money, and in which bank?

They are now required by law to tell to the Financial Stability Board (FSB) how much wealth they have amassed and how they have gotten the money, legally or illegally, and from now on they are not allowed to put their money into the Swiss Bank without first notifying the FSB; otherwise they will end up putting their money under their mattresses. At this time, the main concern for Meles Seitanawi and his wife Jezebel (Azeb Mesfin) is what to do with their money, not what to do with the millions of hungry Ethiopian children. I’m sure they are now in serious consultation with al Amoudi to come up with a plan how to hide their wealth from the Ethiopian people and from the FSB, and they are working on it day and night. Will they succeed? They may or they may not.

  14. Do u know guys what is remedy for Dictator Meles? Just consolidate the struggle to remove him from power; HOW? Let us Leave the difference in political attitude among TRIBES like Amahra, Oromo, Ogden, Tigree, Sidama and others.

  15. I have made you God, Exodus 7,1
God said to Moses when God sent Moses to punish the abusive Pharaoh. The Right Honorable Sir President Barack Obama is God of the 21st Century, appointed by God to punish abusive dictator criminals of the 21st Century.

According to the Holy Bible, Ethiopia is a holy land of God and we Ethiopians are the chosen and most beloved children of God.

    God said for only Ethiopia,
Ethiopia stretches forth her hands for God, Psalm 68, 31. The stretched hands of Ethiopia keeps praying for the success of Sir President Obama’s presidency for his help being the 21st Century God or Moses of Ethiopia by bringing the genocide criminal before justice.

God be with Sir President Obama Amen.

  16. I used to think Ethiopian’s are naturally smart but all I hear the same thing again and again to the point to lose hope on future leaders of my country – which are you guys.

It looks like you guys are easily brain washed – “The enemy will never show its face” and our enemy hasn’t showed its face yet. If you want solve Ethiopian problem stop hatred – get that out of your heart. Look at human being as humane not as god and be considerate.

hoooweee — too much animosity, the saddest thing is whether we like it or not Meles was there to represent Ethiopia. It’s like your son committed crime and you are testifying against him.

one person said “stop looking for change from outside” I am with him fkkk all these western leaders they more criminal than Meles, their weapon killed our people. “It’s all business nothing personal”, that’s what the italians tell you so do the westerns.

If you really want a change in Ethiopia first change your attitude, adopt instead of hate, then work with what you got instead of complaining like a biatchhh.

Thanks, I am out one love.

  17. ***** what used to be one beautiful united country is now at the bottom of the ocean. what we need right now is a long rope connected to a boat to pick our selves up, and we know that meles aint the rope. i wish this was one of the old times where hatred wasnt in our vocabulary, instead it’s love peace and fairness, but we need to stop looking at the past and rule the future thats the only way to keep the country going.

To all Ethiopians: PLEACE DONT LOSE HOPE

  18. Why do we care about the civil rights of people in Ethiopia as a nation. Honestly. I don’t understand why one nation can not just worry about the well being of its own people without sticking its nose, as a community not just leaders, into the business of other nations. It’s good to be educated, and its good to have an opinion. But stop trying to act of those futile hopes.
