  1. This were the good times we were not old enough to witness and for sure they are like a myth that will never be witnessed. Oromay, this is history and we will continue to wander in the gutter of hatred with no hope in our life time.

  2. The sophisticated Eritreans even way back then were party animals too:-) Even the little cute boy was having time of his life!! I just wonder when and where could this lovely video taken place?

  3. That is what I am talking about. Give us a break. Be Crative Elias. Keep up your good work. Remember History, art, culture & politics are inseparable.
    Appreicated!

  4. elias, that was so funny! I couldn’t stop laughing. By the way, if you are not joking, that was not original saba-sabina. The original saba-sabina, sound and melody is different than this one. This one is just, military’s party. QQQQQ

  5. Thank you very much for posting this beautiful and never dying image. I never understood the meaning of much of the lyrics back then, but I always jumped out of my seat when the music was played. It is so good to see so many familiar faces, booging and exuberating with passion for what they have in common.

I was taken back to the good old days, but infurated to realize that many young people wouldnot even believe that this kind of Ethiopia existed. We are so much intoxicated with ethnic politics that we see only our differences, not our common cause.

  6. ….ALEMAYEHU ESHETA…ROCKIN ERITREA….
WE NEED MORE OF THAT …THE GREAT ETHIOPIAN HERO …AL ..
YOU BROKE THE ICE …THANKS ….WE ARE ONE , ETHIOPIA …….

  7. It was some 30 years ago at Geferssa, at the outskirt of Addis. It was supposed to be a party given by old school muscians for themselves; but some one, Solomon of todays VOA AIRED ONE OF THE SONGS on ETV and sealed his fate.

  8. If you look closer, you will see all the famous artists. This thing happened sometime in the early 80s, and it was a get together of Ethiopian artists from every band, such as Police, Central Command, Ground force, Bherawi Theater, Hager Fiqir, Mazegaja Bet etc… they were all drunk and were having a good time. There were even telling jokes, I don’t know if one remember the joke told by Hirut Bekele. Any way, the singer was Tesfaye Belay of Police, not Alemayehu Eshete. There Melekamu Tebeje, Hirut Bekele, all the famous artists of that time. I could have go on and on. Btw, the film was taken from the famous Hebre Trit show.. Variety Show of Saturday night

  9. Well done, good job! what an emotive oldie song! I vividly remember tesfay belay singing saba sabina, but I wonder if the original version was his. Somebody above said the original was engineer asgedom’s. But I would say if the original doesn’t belong to Tekle tesfazgi it can only go to tesfay belay. Engineer asgedom is infact out of the picture, not anyone has ever claimed the engineer had ever sung saba sabina whatever version it was.

  10. Though most of you may know the song being sung by Tekle Tesfazghi on ETV or the copy cat by the Tigrean Tesfaye Belay (from Police Band), the original singer and songwriter for “Saba Sabina” is the legendary Eritrean icon Engineer Asghedom Woldemichael.

  11. This was in 1974 ethiopian calender when hibretreit was started through ETV Solomon Kifle was the host. Exactly 27 years before. Some derg officials were seen in this tape and caused solomon to flee.

  12. Thank you Elias. The original song belongs to Engeener Asgodom Weldemicael during his education @ Addis Abeba University. But the
singer is Tesfay Belay not Alemayo.

  13. Our diversity is our strength and unity. Thank you Elias, you have created interesting memory on every body. Please do the same when you get various original work of the old ethiopian musics.

  14. Although from what so far people have been saying in here, one way or another, seem to suggest the original singer and writer of the song to be an Eritrean, however could you prove those people otherwise with your source of information that the song was the work of the Tigrean artist?

  15. Various vocalists both Eritreans and Tigreans have come up with a version of Saba Sabina song but the original “Saba Sabina” belongs to Engineer Asghedom. Please correct this misleading info. thanks.
