Newspaper editor disappeared in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – Editor of Harambe Newspaper, Wosenseged Gebrekidan, who was sent to Kality prison last week, Feb. 19, has disappeared and his family is unable to locate him in any of the Addis Ababa and Federal prisons.

Wosenseged was arrested after telling the court that he doesn’t have 3,000 birr to post bail.

The U.S.-financed regime in Ethiopia has brought charges against Wosenseged for publishing a report about lack of participation in the April 2007 local elections, which, according to the prosecutor, violates the “press law.”

Wosenseged is one of the journalists who were released from jail in July 2007 along with the top leadership of the opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy (Kinijit) after signing a pardon request letter that was prepared by mediators.

  1. We never hear good news from Ethiopia any more; most of the news we have been receiving so far for almost twenty years are disappointing and frustrating, and such disappointing news prolong our desires to return to hour homeland.

Here we hear again the disappearance of Wosenseged Gebrekiden, Editor of Harambe Newspaper after we have heard his imprisonment in Kaliti jail. Imprisonment is better than disappearance, which has two implications: death by the Meles death squad or running out of the country secretly. In this case, the last one is better than the first one.

Not long ago that we heard Teddy Afro, followed by Birtukan Mideksa, was sent to Kaliti, and now this. Most of us have not yet completely recovered from the deaths of our brothers and sisters on May 7, 2005. The Meles regime is adding sorrow upon sorrow on each one of us.

Does Obama really know what is going on to our people in Ethiopia, or is he sluggish enough to act decisively against the loose killer – Meles Seitanawi (Zenawi)? Why doesn’t he send his Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton, to Africa instead of to Asia to investigate the crimes committed by dictator Meles? Is he simply following President W. Bush’s foreign policy, defending the interest of Washington by aiding dictators to have weapons to kill their own people and stay in power as far as they support Washington’s policy against terrorism?

I have not yet decided to fully criticize the new bridegroom – President Barack Obama – for not yet turning his attention to Africa, especially to Ethiopia, where the persecuting, the jailing and the killing is going on. I know he is too occupied with the immediate problems of solving the American economy, and I hope he will remember Ethiopia, and that is why I voted for him that he can do something important for Ethiopia, and there is no more important thing to the people of Ethiopia than changing the Meles regime as soon as possible. When this happens, then we will hear good news from Ethiopia almost every month if not every day.

  2. what woyane has to know is that, every inocent blood they spelt will hunt them down.sooner or later.I can say this for sure,no matter what.donkey woyanes,we willl get you.

  3. Weyanne government even has to scrounge from journalists with modest means and cannot afford the exorbitant bail money which is demanded of those who aspire to do their job honestly. The Weyanne stooges never seem to have enough money, although the EU, the US, the World Bank and IMF continuously provide them with all they ask for even if they kill and imprison innocent mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. The Weyanne government is continuously being rewarded by the West for their corrupt governance and justice system, as well as their corrupt business practices – which believe me – the West has been aware of for some time. One can go on and on and on!

  4. There goes another intelligent man disappearing. Woyanes have been hunting and killing our brave, talented and gifted young Ethiopians for the last twenty years. My heart goes out to the parents who are living in nightmares waiting to hear from their children and wondering about what ever happened to their children. When will this kind of sad heartbreaking stories ever end?

  5. How on earth the saviour Jesus Christ let the reign of Woyane tribalist Junta live longer?
Woyane’s leader is chairman of the Eprdf, chairman of TPLF(Woyane tigre)and commander in chief of the army like the former East bloc countries. Meles wants to be “Jenjis Khan” or “Gladiator” of East Africa.
That’s why he is threathning the right of citizens.
A general strike must be called on in Ethiopia to demand the resignation of Woyane cabinet.
15 Mio people on hunger means a total collapse of the regime.
The Meles tribalist junta must be abolished, not be reformed.
