There are talks inside the UDJ circles that Birtukan Mideksa may NOT return to Ethiopia after concluding her European tour this month …and Ethiopian Review’s editorial on the possible alliance between OLF, Ginbot 7, EPPF, ONLF and TPDM to create a transitional government as suggested by Ana Gomes. To be posted shortly.

Is it a dream?
If Birtukan is genuine opposition, I think she should not return! If she returns, it means she is serving only TPLF propaganda to make seem there is freedom of opposition in ethiopia. After all i dont believe she is strong opposition. She never critcized the Weyane regime openly like hailu shawel. She is too soft on TPLF in all her talks and interviews. UDJ has abandoned the 8 preconditions and already indicated to participate in 2010 election without implementation of neutral election board. Thanks to Mrs. Ana Gomes, who instead rejected the idea of election in ethiopia without a transition govt.
when pigs fly.. lol
Elias-
Birtukan is a resolute fighter and will return to Addis to join Professor Mesfin, Dr. Yacob and all the other brave UDJP members. Birtukan does NOT believe in shouting at TPLF from a distance, whatever she does, she does it face to face.
I know this is a let down for some in the Diaspora who would love to have her outside since there is some comfort in numbers. But alas! Judge Birtukan is NOT one of those with lily for a liver, hectoring at meeting halls of America and Europe. Mark my word Elias, Birtukan will return to Ethiopia as soon as she completes her business in Europe.
Let’s hear it Eli. We need some good news please.
i can’t picture how this will work with OLF? i don’t think the REAL OROMO people will accept this. they just don’t go together…
Mr. ER,
Would you please print the following short note even if it goes against what you stand for? In the past, you have thrown out our several notes.
Bertukan must have been approached by Genbot 7 by now. Those people are in the business of bringing people to their side by offering position in their organization, support to asylum claim and money. But Bertukan is incorruptable and she will not ran away. If she had the intention to ran away, she could have done it when the opportunity first appeared last year. She has returned to her beloved country while several renegades stayed behind only to sabotage the peaceful struggle back home. Millions of people need her leadership to take them through the next election in which they will put the UDJ in office. You might not believe this, but it is to happen.
Only the leadership of Genbot 7 has understood the risk the UDJ poses to them. Ordinary members and supporters cannot see it. Just yesterday, Andargachew Tsege, one of the leaders of Genbot 7 said, his organization will call voters to boycott the coming election. Why? Because Woyanne will not leave power even if defeated in election. The fact of the matter is this. Despite Genbot 7’s call, as repeatedly seen in the past, millions of people will vote and keep Woyanne in power. This is indirectly empowering Woyane rather than weakening it. Some that would boycott are potential voters for the opposition. In all cases the beneficiary is Woyane.
From Andargachew’s talk, one deducts that the OLF, ONLF, EPPF, TPDM will begin their massive ethno-political war soon. The EPPF will keep Genbot 7 as its foreign department since it makes no sense to have two organizations in an alliance. Andargachew has also implied that the next election might not take place because Woyanne will be removed by force even before the talk about election starts. We are eagerly waiting for that day.
Unlike ER, Andargachew did not talk about transitional government. He knows that there will not be such a government. How can you ring the OLF, ONLF, EPPF and TPDM to agree on a transitional government? It the transitional government for the OLF and ONLF referendum for self-determonation? Who is included and excluded? We do not know. Unless we see the agreement between these organizations that is to be signed sometime in January, 2009, we would not know what is in store for the people and the country. The guess is that even leaders of Genbot 7 do not know. They are simply pretending as if they know and have control. Once they had released armed group in the country (i.e. EPPF), they have lost control. They cannot guarantee any positive outcome too.
Put Eritrea which rides every armed opposition to Woyane in this development. The Sudan will open is border to these armed groups. Somalia is an open land to cross to Ethiopia. Once war in these two borders start with armed groups, Eritrea will cross its southern border and go to Addis. With the OLF and ONLF armies still holding the regions they want to rule, no power will stop them from imposing their wishes. With a transitional governement dominated by them, they will take their cause to its logical conclusion. A repeat of 1991 with new actors.
Andargachew refused to answer if the war option is the best option for the country right now. If he tried to answer that question, he knows that it will be a desaster for his organization. He says overthrowing Woyane by force is his objective and noting else. He does not want to tell us what will happen if Woyane goes by force. Again, we warn unsuspecting and innocent members and supporters to push Genbot 7 to reveal all its secret deals. They must not waste their time, money and energy for a group with no clear goal that benefits the people.
ER’s provocation has become a habit. Becuase of that, it is being shun by friend and enemies alike. Even Andargachew mentioned a lie. Bertukan refused an interview since she was targeted for a blackmail. There was a call for boycott of her meetings. We see that ER’s call is unheeded. ER seems in serious trouble. Time to change.
One last remark. Why is Bertukan and not others made a subject of rumor of not returning to the country? Dr. Yacob is in the U. S. Why is ER afraid of him and daring on Bertukan. Is that because of ER is Machoo that has no respect for a woman? We suspect so.
We pray that Bertukan and her millions of followers save our country from marching to its end.
Thanks Serkalem Bedada. God bless you. You said it all
Ato Serkalem Bedada,
Why would Eritrea want to go to Addis or anywhere in Ethiopia if we didn’t ask them? Are we to make of your statement that Eritrea has a desire to take over Ethiopia? Hello, the last time I checked, Addis is in Ethiopia and about 1000 kms from Asmara. I know I am being sarcastic, but can you please enlighten us about your unfounded allegation that Eritrea might march to the Ethiopian hinterland? You see, my friend – that is precisely why we find ourselves always on the short end of the stick. Why create an unlikely scenario just to distract people? I hope you get some satisfaction from such nonsense for I sure don’t!
Hello! Hello! Hello!
Why is that some Ethiopians are scared of OLF and ONLF? These organizations have honestly told us that they do not have any intention of controlling the whole of Ethiopia. We should not dream to see OLF and ONLF changing their policy to fight for the whole of Ethiopia. Their never changing objective is to free their respective people from oppressive and brutal government that has been ruling in the name of Ethiopia. These people have been marginalized and targeted for their ethnic identity. So, what is wrong if they organize to fight for their natural ethnic identity? Are we expecting UDJ to takeover power from ‘woyane’ (including the army) and maintain the same strategy of imposing the Ethiopian identity over peoples’ ethnic identity? If that is what UDJ is for it would be waste of time.
The only way Ethiopia can be saved is by establishing a system of government that ensures respect to peoples’ ethnic identity and a just government with the rights of ethnic groups to govern themselves, if they wish. This kind of government can not come as an offer by UDJ or another party. Rather, it can be built if and only if each ethnic group is convinced of the feasibility and advantage of having one country and government.
Those of us who worship ‘Ethiopia’ and the Ethiopian identity like an idol for a certain groups, instead of seeing it as a home for every Ethiopian (including the Oromos and the Ogadenees) need to change. We must stop fighting for our idol, and have to be able to respect and love our brothers and sisters. Can one says that he/she loves Ethiopia, but he/she dislikes the Oromos and the ONLF? What is this kind of Ethiopia where the Oromos and the Ogadenees are not treated as Ethiopians? This idol worshiping has been the root of all evils in Ethiopia. Working with OLF and ONLF to build the new Ethiopia is the only way to save Ethiopia. Begging ‘woyane’ for superficial change can not save Ethiopia. We must change! We must change! We must change in a way we can make a united Ethiopia feasible and advantageous to all interest groups, including OLF and ONLF. If not don’t ask me when our brothers, the Oromos and the Ogadenees, decide to separate their regions from the rest of Ethiopia. Be it the Ethiopian army led by Woyane or UDJ or any other party can not deter this from happening unless we open our heart to love and respect our brothers, instead of worshiping our idol.
May God Help US,
