VIDEO: Woyanne soldiers in Somalia surrender to insurgents

The video below shows several soldiers serving under the regime of Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne) surrendering to the brave Somali freedom fighters. It seems that most of the soldiers are from southern Ethiopia who are being made cannon fodders by Meles and his Woyanne generals.

  1. It so much outrageous that our brothers are
forced to accept and follow a religion they don’t beleive in it.I don’t like to see
    someone suffering like that.
African leaders are playing with innocents’ life and especially Woyannes are responsible for the death of poor
Ethiopian Soldiers. Why Melese is not in need of an international help?Otherwise many more soldiers will die.

  2. I did not have the slightest idea what the interview was all about. But, I am ashamed that we are sitting here enjoying in the comfort of our “Safe” homes and let the Ethiopian and Somali people suffer unjustly because of our weak spirit and selfish attitude and Weyane is reigning supreme by literally in the blood of our people. I don’t know what the soldiers were saying, but it doesn’t sound that they were bragging ala Weyane. This is shameful to Ethiopia of today but to our history. We must support out fighting forces. Oh, yes, please I don’t want to hear Shabia did this Shabia did that. For those of you who feel some masculinity by stating such nonsense, go ahead and fight Shabia, but we the overwhelming majority of Ethiopians are able and willing to live with all our neighbors, not least the Eritreans in peace and tranquility respecting each other. No more “Senseless” wars of any kind. The only war we need to fight and win is the one that counts most – the one and only one against Weyane that would herald its demise and finish it once and for all!

  3. It seems that these soldiers are true reflection of the Ethiopian ethnic make up.Ogadenis and Oromas are among them. Some Oramos soldiers are speaking fluent Somali. They are sayind that they were misled and are no longer fighting and dying for Meles.

  4. I am surprised to know their intention of segregation by Language and Religion. How did they think they can convert some one to Islam without proper knowledge. I also think this is a make up because they all held their guns. This is not the way to freedom. Freedom fighters should respect others freedom too.

  5. Daniel, as a muslim and a Somali, i can say to you that Islam is against forcing people to convert. The Qur’an states clearly that, “There is no Compulsion in Religion”. I totally agree with you that others Religion should be respected. Our problem is not with the Ethiopian people and their faith (many of them Muslims) but Meles and his TPLF.

  6. If this video is really authentic, we should all pray for the soldiers shown. I can speak and understand the Somali language myself since I grew up as a Christian among them. I did not sleep for them last night after I watched the clip. We should all pray for their soul may rest in peace!!!

  7. Gabra; You seem very worried about a few Woyanne soldiers lives than the tens of thousands of innocent Somali civilians killed by the soldiers who wear the same uniform as these Woyanne soldiers who surrendered to the Somali freedom fighters, these Woyanne mercenaries will be fine, I can’t understand how a person can be so detached. You mean to tell us that you are worried about a few Woyanne soldiers lives than the tens of thousands of innocent Somali citizens who perished under their guns. Please have some perspective and also compassion for the long suffering people of Somalia before you preach and pray for a few Woyanne mercenaries who probably have innocent blood on their hands.

  8. this is what we have been yearn for a long time. if all Meles’s soldiers stop and think a little they all will do the same thing and join the freedom fighters.I praise all of them. And my message for other soldiers is look at your hero brothers and follow their foot step. As others said it is not shame on you guys or it is not shame on Ethiopia. what is shame on one nation is invading free country and killing innocent poeple, so don’t hasitate to join your brothers and get rid of Meles. Think what you would do if somebody deprive your right on your own country? My massage is especially for oromos servening woyane what do you guys think while you are under occupation but occuping other country? why you go there? who sent you? is it really for the benefit of oromo? is it really for the benefit of Somali people? what is the somalis attitude for you as occupier or librater? librating who from who? why Meles like to go there? Where he had been for the last fifteen years when somalis really in need of international help? Youth your own mind? Question yourself and think all around, think who is leading you? what if something changed in somalia or Ethiopia? do you think Meles will care about you? don’t make a mistake again. Melese is a tirant leader who ias manipulating free nations.

  9. As I heard from Amharic speaker of Somali,he said that if you accept Islam, don’t afraid, you will not die, otherwise you will be killed;Abdi,Is it not compulsion(forcing some one)? These soldiers are forced to accept Islam. The only religion in the world which did, does and will force peoples to accept is ISLAM.Is Allah powerless to use individuals to recruit followers?I don’t think so. This is the work of the leaders of this religion.Accepting Religion by force is not relgion.I am looking and listening now that Somalians force soldiers of Weyane to accept Islam. This encourages many peoples to hate Islam.
Peoples have freedom to follow any religion. This is innate(naturally given). This is Human Right. But somalians is taking this right from weyane soldiers by force. It is never accepted.Everyone must blame this act

  10. Dear Eritrawi,

I am not sure where you got this idea about me that I don’t care about the precious lives of humanity as long as they are not the current regimes soldiers. For me, your life, a Somali or those soldiers’ lives are as priceless as any life on earth including mine. Your remarks about is just too smearing with out even knowing me. Did I say that I don’t care about the Somali’s lives? Did I? If you are talking based on your specific mission here, you are talking to the wrong man or barking at the wrong tree!!! In regards to my prayer, I will keep doing just that as long as the mayhem that has been destroying the lives of millions goes on unabated in that part of the world. I think that is my inalienable right. May God Have Mercy On You!!!!

  11. Miskir,I gather you have some hard feelings about Islam as a Religion and there is nothing I can do about that.Unlike you,I`m not going to insult the Woyanne soldiers` Religion even though their actions in Somalia are bestial and irreligious.Somalis do not want them to convert,we just want to kick them out of our country.Since you know about the history of the world Religions, tell us more about the crusades, the inquisition, slavery,Emperer Yohannes` time? Was it muslims?Practice what you preach.

  12. Some readers seem to be doubting the authenticity of the clip, merely because the captives were allowed to pose with their weapons. I don’t think this is a significant enough reason to justify doubting the video’s authenticity. The Somalis’ decision to videotape what may seem ‘armed and dangerous’ captives, may look a little out-of-the-ordinary to some readers. On the other hand, what kind of danger could such a sad, thoroughly demoralized group of captive soldiers have posed to their captors? My guess is that the Somalis must have thought there was some PR value to be gained from showing their captives in that fashion. But, they are no fools. So, my guess is that they must have emptied the weapons of any ammunition and handed them back to the captives for the duration of the video-taking. In my opinion, the video clip is as authentic as it could ever be. Its authenticity is written all over the utterly dejected and pitiful faces of the Ethiopian soldiers.

  13. Miskir, i am sure you are biased against Islam. I as an Ethiopian Muslim, i have seen and seeing that the Ethiopian Orthodox Churchs and Mulu Wangel are forcing the people in the Ethiopian country sides to join them. Although in christianity there is no forcing conversion, the orthodox church in our country is using forces since the Menilik time. In this case it does not mean that i agree with Somalis if reaally they have forced our christian soldiers to be Muslim.

  14. Now if we speak against the illegal loss of lifes we are going to be labeled as terrorist ourselves and being accused of obstructing the anti-terrorism effort which will have an effect on our chance of geting other citizinship , business grants , school loans , DV quota etc

  15. Whatever their fate may be, these soldiers are in the wrong place for wrong reasons and given orders by wrong leadership. The puck stops at the Woyane’s leadersip door. No more gimmicks about religious cards cum politics. They should take the full resposibilties of both crimes– The crime committed against Somali civilians and reveng metted out against draftees. We should’t be injecting nonsense of religion and social factors here.It is not about religion, but a wholesale of criminal enterprise by Melez and cohorts. Plain and simple.

  16. I dont really whole heartedly support ethiopia’s involvement in the internal affairs of Somalia. but I am hoping we are suppoting them to make a legible government to the somali people.
considering the video though,I see only one ethiopian soldier here, the rest are somali extremist soldiers.you can tell whether they are ethiopians or somalis if you happen to live longer with both people.this is a propaganda video nothing more than that.
