Sir, From the outset, the Ethiopian Government has put on record the extent of the current food shortages and has been working along with partners to resolve the problem (“Ethiopia accused of hiding famine”, Sept 18). There are longstanding institutional mechanisms established by the Ethiopian Government; Ethiopia’s Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency, UN bodies and bilateral partners continuously monitor the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia and report to the international community.
The article contradicts the statements made by Sir John Holmes (UN humanitarian representative) who, during his recent visit to Ethiopia, voiced his appreciation of the Ethiopian Government’s response to food shortages and the comprehensive approach it has taken to address the problem of pockets of malnutrition in our country — we offer short-term food and other provisions to address the immediate humanitarian problem, and are implementing long-term development strategies to address the structural dimension of the problem.
The article gives the impression that relief agencies are not operating in the Ogaden, but the regional government there is working with more than 30 agencies to provide food and medical assistance.
The Western media cannot be more concerned than the people and government of Ethiopia are about the people of the Ogaden who are our brothers and sisters and whom we want to see prosper.

Berhanu Kebede is one of the thugs of woyanne and will do all he can to defend or hide the crimes of his bosses in Ethiopia. Who is dominating the major power in military, government, weredas, kebeles and local representative? Who is dominating the biggest market now? Who is leaving the Ethiopians to unaffordable life? So in general who is now currently the worst enemy of Ethiopians other than others? I hope you all say in one word….WEYANE…
On the other hand who has been exposing weyane’s dirty destructive program in Ethiopia for the rest of the world along with most Ethiopians….I believe those are western human rights advocators and concerners….so what is weyane’s idiot analogy on who is more concerned to Ethiopians issue. I strongly believe that weyane is the no. 1 worst enemy of the Ethiopian people.

Berhanu Kebede’s statement is aimed, like his boss brutal dictator Meles Zenawi, at trying to cover up the glaringly large scale famine in Ethiopia. We saw the interview given to Time magazine (August 18, 2008) by Meles Zenawi. It looks like a jocular comment. Unashamedly, he said virtually there was no famine but malnutrition. The famine that exists now is in small pockets of the country and that it is manageable. Isn’t this a jocular statement made against the starving people?
Berhanu Kebede is an economist by education and one time was deputy minister of Economic planning and cooperation. This makes him accountable for the poor performance of his former ministry. A well known drunkard, opportunist and a member of the ruling Wayanne party, Kebede has persisted to serve the hated dictatorial regime. In a word, he’s one of the “Hoddam Amharas.”
Ambassador Berhanu Kebede, let me ask you one question to answer it for just yourself. Are you sure that your gov’t did all the best and save the lives of poor childrens?

Although you know the reality that there is a genocide in Ogaden,Gambella,Oromo,and many other regions,but in order to keep ur bread u have to defend the lie of your woyane ,but You have to care about your people and know that you have the right to be ambassador or even ethiopian president or prime minister,your words will recorded and history will witness,to become happy the starvation of your people is immoral.Shame on you once again ,the so called ambassador.
