(RFI) – Noah Samara grew up in Ethiopia, but fled the country with his family in his teens due to mounting political violence. He studied satellite technology in the United States, and embarked on a successful career in that field. But a newspaper article about Aids in Africa changed the course of his life. It inspired him to create the world’s first satellite radio, Worldspace.
Noah has served as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and the Director of WorldSpace. A veteran of the satellite industry, he has been an advisor to numerous global telecommunications and broadcasting organizations over the years, on a wide range of business and regulatory issues. He has published articles in the fields of satellite communications and broadcasting.
Noah Samara holds a MS Degree in International Business Diplomacy from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University School of Law. He has also received numerous awards from governments and institutions specifically for his work with WorldSpace.
Imogen Lamb of RFI talks to Noah Samara about the challenges he faced, and is still facing, to reach the listeners he thinks Worldspace could help. Click below to listen:

What a great man
Thanks Sir
N A S for PM
i really apperciate noah saamar
Dear Noah, I know that you are a great man and have done a lot to reach out the poor and voiceless. However, I still feel that you could do a lot more. One way of reaching out the farmers in the country is to mobilize funds and boradcast programmes in Amharic. I have no doubt in my mind that you would be able to do this.
This is a Great Man, I thank him for what he has done and is doing. If he was a Westerner, he would have been praised, adorned, celebrated and his name would have been all over the world in Mass Media, and everyone in the world would have known his name, ideas and invention. We Ethiopian and the African World should celebrate his name and his Satellite Communication. More or less the world is using his ideas/invention. We Ethiopian should thank him for his Satellite Radio and Communication, so that we can pentrate news where dictators shut/shoot every talking mouth of the mass. I am sure all Africans, The World for that matter are benefiting from his ideas/invention and hard work.
The Good book says, “eyekeber nebiye behaguru.” meaning, wise person or Intelct person will not be respected in his own native land. Unfortunatle true for we Ethiopians. Because we do not celebrate our owen. But I celebrate him and I would like to see him personally, because I enjoyed his business minded ideas and intellect.
Can we convince this gentleman to be the next Ethiopian Prime Minister? All it takes is a vision and the hope for a better Ethiopia. Let us dream for a greater tomorrow
So much could have been done for Ethiopia and Africa with the billions he spent to build his own company in the US :-(
