It is a good start that Washington Post admits Meles Zenawi is a dictator. Though it is useless calling a dictator a dictator while giving him billions of dollars, I say it is a start and a good one at that.
I wonder about the mental state of BelaiHJesus, however. I read his comment in the post and it seems to me he is gradually losing the plot. Great article Annys, but one thing, I find it odd that you have to go to a non-Ethiopian to be the leading voice for and of Ethiopians. Would you go to a non-Jewish person to be a leading expert on Israeli issues? Would you go to a hypothetical Professor Abbas to get a perspective about Israel or a hypothetical Professor Steinberg? Would you go to a non-Italian to be a leading expert on Italian issues? of course you would not, only when it comes to African Geo-political issues do some in the media make it a point to go to non-Ethiopians to retell and recount our story. This is nothing more than neo-colonization by another name. Annys, please do a better job of reaching out to Ethiopian professors and experts to give a non-biased assessment of Ethiopian politics. As you well know, those who own the story own the people, this is an issue that impacts countries in East Asia like China and North Korea, where those who own the story own the populace. Please reach out to Ethiopian experts to tell our story, while you did a great job in relaying the story, what you effectively did was portrayed the two sides as almost irrational and then leveraged Dr. Lyons (a man i respect by the way) as a final arbitrator. Does he have any business before the Ethiopian government? What connections does Dr. Lyons have with Al Amoudi? These questions are vital because the whole point of the article has been distorted to make it seem like Al Amoudi is the African version of Bill Gates when in reality he is more of the Mugabe version of Bill Gates. Again, when you cite an expert, please reach out to Ethiopian experts as well, and when you do so, ask the pertinent questions like “what ties does this man have to Al Amoudi or Meles Zenawi” before you cite a source as a definitive expert about Ethiopian politics and history. Your voice is vital Annys, please do a better job of telling the full story instead of portraying one side and the otehr and then finding a non-Ethiopian to be the rational voice and in the process relying on non-Ethiopians to tell our story for us. This is very paternalistic and a modern day version of “the white man’s burden”. Please, read the press release below and pass on the story to others who might have more resources at their hands if doing a full investigative piece is not something that can be handled by the Metro section. I think we all should think reasonably, and try our emotion not to control of our intellect. Civility and understanding each other is very important, if we want to bring a real change in our country. Name calling, intimidation and hate aren’t going to bring any good solutions. I’m not trying to defend Al Amudin, but I beleive he been hated to much by some of you guys. His presence in Ethiopia I think is good in most part, I just want you guys think about the importance of the 40 or more his companies operating in Ethiopia to Ethiopia, and the opportunity they create for thousands of Ethiopians.
Finally about AESA-One, I think the show shouldn’t happened in the first place, but if they want to do it, that is their right and we should leave them alone. protesting is not imporant, well I guess protesing is a right too.
