Rebels burned down TPLF businesses in northern Ethiopia

Fighters from the Ethiopian Unity and Freedom Force (EUFF) have burned down 1 hotel and over 20 stores in the northern Ethiopian border town of {www:Metemma} last week, according the group’s spokesperson. The report has been independently verified from local witnesses.

The attack, which occurred last Wednesday night, primarily targeted {www:Khartoum} Hotel, a gathering place for Woyanne security personnel and businessmen in the area. The owner of Khartoum Hotel, Wzr. Tsehai herself, is a longtime member of TPLF.

A large merchandise store next to Kharthoum Hotel was also burned to the ground. The store was owned by another TPLF member named Haddish Berhane who is currently TPLF head of security in the “Amhara Kilil.”

It’s reported that in June 2011, the same group burned down 11 stores in {www:Gondar} that are owned by ruling party members.

    Burning propery of Tigreans will never get you anywhere. Even if you get to the palace, you will never bring a lasting solution. There will be another woyane who fight even after this woyane is being removed.

    Targetting Tigreans by accusing them they are supporters is not going to bring any peace to Ethiopia.

    Elias, I oppose the selling of the land of my people Ethiopian land to Arab, Indian,… and the shipping of Ethiopian to Arab for modern day slavery and the eviction of amhara from Southern Ethiopia and the burning of churches in my country. I equally condemn you for attempting to ignite another vicious coflict that will take Ethiopia back another 100 years. Look at yourself after another 20 or even 10 years, you will be an old man and you will see your life wasted like this. You cannot reverse life. Everyday is a precious day that will never come back again. Even Shabia and TPLF took them 30 years to defeated Ethiopian army and it will take another 40 or more years, then we will be dead Elias. Elias, you really need to baptize your ideology and come with a better alternative than with alternative of burning Tigrean properties. This is as rustic as the TPLF rustic system in Ethiopia. Elias = TPLF, no difference. That is what TPLF and shabia did long ago. They were burning buses,schools, stores, robbying banks,… etc. This is very old tactic like shifta system in Ethiopia. Elias, this is the 21 century were people from across the oceans are mingingling, dating, intermarrying and naturalizing. We will not allow to you to drag our country into another mayhem. We need a quick solution than another protracted destructive civil war.

    Think better Elias, get out of this ethnic rebellion even OLF has dropped its ethnic rebellion. It is an old fashion shifta activities which TPLF itself used. Imagine how much TPLF and Shabia has destroyed Ethiopia.

    Ato Gezaee H. i don’t understand why you are calling Elias Kifle ignorant and put him on the same level as TPLF. Are you angry at the burning of those properties or at the news? Elias Kifle did not create the news. He is not the leader of the organization, so why are you taking your anger on him? Unless there is something else you want to tell us. This was reported to him and he reported it to us.If you don’t agree with the news that is ok that is your opinion. But I personally don’t like your comment of accusing Elias as if he was the one who burnt the properties. He did not even say he agrees or does not agree with the event. He told us who the owners are. If he did not tell us we would ask him to find out. So what is the problem?

    I hope you will apologize to him since he has not done anything wrong that would make him like TPLF. It a disgrace that you said to our dear brother who is struggling than most of us for the better future of our country.

    We all know Elias’s view about Ethiopia and TPLF, but he does not deserve to be insulted as an “ignorant” reporter. I was going to say worst things about you but my friends and I talked about it and just stopped it from posting it. It is not fair to condemn the messenger. The news came from Metema.
    Just a few words about the news itself. The owners of the properties were not killed, or their families were not harmed. We do not know the detail of the reason why the EUFF targeted these properties. I don’t think these people are the only Tigres or TPLF members in the area. So we should wait and see before condemning Elias and/or Ethiopian Review.

    When I say ignorant to Elias, it is not hate towards him. I can be ignorant in some aspect. Ignorance is not an insult. I may do things ignorantly without calculating the pros and cons. Ignorance is a part and parce of all human which we cannot know everything. I sometimes do things ignorantly and other people correct me and say pardon for my ignorance it is not natural to be ignorant in the things which we do not know or foresee.

    You know almost in every country there are oppositions, supporters and non-supporters. But you do not see people targetting supporters of each others. It is an democratic. you can never bring democracy by killing democracy itself. Tatbo chika malet new. The majority of Tigreans supporter TPLF by default some without even know what is TPLF at all. You can not bring change that benefits Ethiopians by attacking the majority of Tigreans.

    If I were Elias and others, I will rather win the heart of the TPLF supporters ideologically instead of demanding them to submit based on fear and intimidation which will never work not in the 21 century but even before. Even TPLF never used such tactics to advance its agenda.

    Let me tell you, ANC in South Africa has majority supporters from the black population. The popular opponent is DP suffers because it has no supporters from the black majority. Because it is mostly supportered by the whites, coloured, Indians. And DP or democratic party came with a scheme of recruiting black supporters. How did they do it? they did not burn ANC supporters business or property. All they did is, they started community development schemes in the black communities, helping them to access electricity, clean water, building for them toilet, community clincs and others,… then they started building up their support in the black community. Now DP in South Africa is a threat to ANC. Because DP has managed to win the heart of the black population by delivering better services than ANC. But in Ethiopia, it is completely barbaric, you to be killed because you support the other. No, no, this is too rustic and primitive honeslty.

    I am assuming you are Gezaee, because you came up as anonymous. But when you call some one ignorant it means the “mistake” made was to lack of education or knowledge. Also means”unaware” or “uninformed”.
    So as i said Elias reported what the spokesperson of this organization informed him. If the spokesperson said “don’t make it official” that is something else.
    Elias told us what he was told. The reason I said it was an insult is because it is a vocabulary that should not be used. You also called him he is fanning ethnic rebellion and also you said Elias=TPLF. That is completely not true. He never said anything wrong in this report.
    I conclude now that you are still insisting Elias=TPLF. If that is the case then I will be forced to suspect that you are here to attack Elias personally. If you don’t like the news just say so.
    South Africa’s case is not necessary to be brought up here because the ANC is not an ethnic cleanser, or killer organization. It is the most matured and democratic organization in Africa. If it did not do enough for the people economically and becomes corrupt then it has to solve its problem. Elias is not the leader of this army of EUFF.

Sometimes I can be harsh because I become very emotional about my country. I am a human with fleelings like everybody else. Elias came with story as a breaking news as if it is a great job and something worthy. But it a dirt of the 21 century according to me. In the place where I am people busy studying how harvest energy from the sun and how to do mining on other planets and how they can go to other planets to get a reward. But our people are spending thier entire life figuring out how to kill each other.

I am an indepedent and standalone with a 100% independent mind, will never worship Elias or TPLF or Dr. Berhanu or any body else.     EPRDF – rules a country which is considered an enemy.
    OLF – openly says they will destroy the country
    Elias Group – They say they love their country but it is fake. Their heart is full of hatred and conceal their agenda in love of a nation which they dont know anything about.

    i don’t know what is wrong with you guys, Elias is a reporter who reported to us what was reported to him. If you want to defend the owners the properties please say so. We do not know why the EUFF attacked them. We do not know if they committed any wrong doings other than being TPLF members. Elias sometimes reports what that moron Meles has said about some things, Does that make him he is his supporter? I don’t think so.
    If any organization tells him what they did or what they are planning to and tell Ethiopian Review, Elias has a duty and responsibility of letting us know.
    It is not Elias’s business to tell you whether it is right or wrong, that is your business. Don’t blame him for reporting to us.

    As far as the ANC I did not say we can not learn from it. If you remember, what I said was if the ANC does not meet the needs of its problem it has to solve its mistakes. i said Elias has nothing to do with the burning of the properties it is the EUFF that did it. Elias is just a reporter. And you are trying to make it out that I support Elias even if he makes mistakes, I am not that type of person as you might think. But I criticize you for targeting him for things he did not do.If it was not for him I would not even know what happened in Metema and to be honest this is the first time I heard of the EUFF.
    People can discuss whether it is right or not to punish TPLF members who committed crimes against innocent Ethiopians. But it is wrong to criticize the person who brought the news or the issues to us.

    I don’t think you should reveal every thing and who is who. I think do you research the risk before posting? Did you get permission for this release from the rebels?

    That being said, the rebels should not be fools to burn down if they can to take the resource they controlled so that they can use it as their own resource since they have little to maintain their strength.

  15. Although I yearn the demise of the ruling thugs, I do not condone the distrution of Tigraian properties under the disguise of “TPLF members”.
    It is simply narrow parochialism. And will surely undermine the very essence of our struggle to establish a free, united, democratic and harmonious Ethiopia. Beware! Do not get lured or tempted into the vicious cycle of divisive, ethnic conflict.

    If i was a TPLF leader, a destruction like this would be music to my ears. As TPLF is cornered, this kind of a anarchy will be a blessing indisguise because TPLF itself will burn some more Tigrayan properties so that it tells Tigre people, you better support me or else you will be victims. I may be wrong but i feel like a this may not be the way to success. I suggest that civilian targets are not good ways of struggling TPLF.

    It should be known that peace loving Ethiopians have no quarrels with their peace loving Tigreans brothers and sisters. It should be clear that anger and build up frustration and anger is pointed at Meles and the rest of the heartless and coldblooded TPLF mafia group that have slaughtered and robbed countless number of Ethiopians, including Tigreans.
    The costly buildings that have been built since TPLF have stolen and taken power, have been built by the blood and backs of the rest of Ethiopians. No other province have gotten the upscale International Airport,Clinics, Colleges, Roads, modern Schools, modern Colleges, Computer and Science Laboratories, up to date College dormitories, Condominiums, Roads, Street lights, Modern Farms, Million dollar Monuments… etc. You name it, only the smallest Tigrea province have been modernized extravagantly and unfairly with the stolen money and the blood of the rest of Ethiopians. While Meles and the rest of TPLF evicting Ethiopians unjustifiably and in the most inhumane cruel manner. Yes, TPLF have shown their hardheartedness, their cruelity in many ways in the last 22 years, but the evictions of Ethiopians in Afar, Gambela, Gonder and South West is beyond all of us could ever imagine the cruelty of the heartless tyrant Meles and the TPLF thugs.
    It is possible TPLF did it to put themselves on Isayas to show cause for overthrow Isayas so tyrant Meles can take over Eritrea and combine Tigrea province to create The Greater Tigrea.
    Who knows, possibly, the TPLf themselves have turned on each other and set the fire on each others’ buildings.
    Another Possibility, the fire probably was set by Somalis whose family members have been slaughtered and dismembered by Woyanes.
    And another possibility, the Ethiopian freedom fighters who have been put through enough miseries, properties they have owned for hundreds years have been taken from them, and countless number families have lost their loved ones at the hands of TPLF.

  18. This is the kind of sporadic attack by one ethnic against another ethnic is the recipe of the country division. I know for sure any Tigrayan will not sit back when fellow Tigrayan is being attacked by Amhara ethnic because they are Tigrayans. I think the trend will be very bad to Amhara in general because the Tigrayans in Adi Arqay, Qebo, Lalibela even Gonder will kick out Amhara from the region and Amhara who live in Metema and other surrounding places will be cleared and occupy by Tigrayans to secure the places by Tigrayan armed residences against Amhara ethnic.

    I do not believe there will be any peace in Ethiopia so long some people tries to bring different and strange dogs to live together peacefully. Ethiopia is the home of different and strange barking and biting dogs and there will not be a peace, every time one dog barks from one corner then the whole dogs bark simultaneously and ended up biting each other until all of them are died or most of them are wounded to stop the biting each other.

    As I said yesterday on of one the thread, this is the kind of thing Woyane will be forced to wake up what the hell they are doing in Addis Ababa and all the bond and bridges talk about Abay and other projects in the center of the country. I hope the sporadic attack by Amhara will continue and let the Woyane leadership sit at the edge every day about their own life and eventually will start to think the fundamental questions Tigrayans have been asking them will be addressed.

I’ve read your comments for years, the only thing you are mad at Meles is that, the tyrant hasn’t modernized the entire Tigrea province regardless the money come from the blood and sweat of the rest of Ethiopians or with the stolen money that is intended to feed the starving Ethiopians in various parts of Ethiopia.     I give you respect for expressing your feelings. As you said, tplf and shabia were destroying everything while they were shifta. This is rewriting your words, not mine. You also oppose the daylight sale of our sisters to “slavery” for Arab countries. We are now in the 21st century. Tplf cadres now accuse Menelik of Slavery. This is absurd. The sale of Ethiopians in the 21st century for “slavery” is very clear to all people of the world. Every Tigrean should be ashamed of this being done in their name. Who are most of the agents (directly or indirectly) for this “slavery system?” I advice you to read the latest paper by Ato GebreMedihin Araya (Yetarik Kihidetoch). At least shabia is respected since they do not practice the 21st century “slavery system in Arab countries.”

    To me Ato G/Medihin is by all standards likened to Ras Alula Aba Nega. There were so many Tigrean heroes in the past and there are now very few and there will be more in the future.

    Before advising Elias, you should advise yourselves how to take action on all the bad things happening in Ethiopia right now. Feeling bad but keeping silent and running for money cannot exclude you from sharing all the atrocities. As far as that continues, supporters will be regarded as an accomplice to the crimes of “tplf leaders, cadres and members.” At least you feel sad for the bad things happening right now. There are also so many Tigreans who feel like you. But you must start opposing tplf crimes publicly. Abandon your membership from the tplf mafia group. That is the way to be a solution to the existing problems. Meles and company silenced every Ethiopian including many Tigreans. There are few like Bisrat barking like a “mad dog” and writing their hate ideology.

    Whether the property burnt down around Metema belongs to a Tigrean or another eprdf member like “bisbis hodam Amaras/Oromos” I don’t care. Every member of eprdf will pay the price. The solution is to abandon eprdf before it is too late. You may think Shiferaw Shigute displaced Amharas recently. The bottom line is where the push comes from. Every tplf cadre is running all in every corner of Ethiopia. Shiferaw’s actions are coming from those cadres. They are everywhere in Ethiopia. For that matter, the Metema properties may belong to Tigreans. Hard working people would not be treated in anyway like this unless there is some evidence of tplf membership. On one hand you advocate Ethiopia and peace etc, on the other hand you want the protection of TPLF under the guise of Tigreans. It is time the so called Tigreans unite and conemning TPLF and address their demands for the safety of Tigreans. The reason why Tigreans are silent with crimes of TPLF is because TPLF has already alienated Tigreans from the rest of Ethiopia in order to save itself. Tigreans now will always be afraid because of the land they grabbed from Wollo and Gonder therefore, they are willing for complete domination of TPLF on the rest of Ethiopia. They will even be willing secession and trick Oromos for its secession to curb any danger towards them. TPLF with silent Tigreans in order to avoid this threat, they are orchestrating the depopulation of Ethiopians hence Amaras and Oromos through mass refugees where thousands of them are dying in oceans and seas, Arab countries, etc. Orphans and women in thousands are being sold to over seas to the highest bidder, lands are given away to foreigners, many many atrocities are being committed. Still TPLF and Tigreans are still powerful because they are supported by many all over therefore, TPLF and Tigreans are still the winners. The last resort is to commit genocide or instigate civil war to break Ethiopia apart. Yet, the chances are higher for safety of Tigrayans by doing this but there is no guarantee for their safety yet. That is why Tigrayans are gambling with this either join the mainstream Ethiopians or stay with TPLF. I say let the winner win. At some point Ethiopians must rise to defend themselves don’t you think? At the same time I am sure they are sensible than TPLF, they are not as vindicative as TPLF therefore they know where to attack. When you are saying Tigreans are being attacked then you are not differentiating TPLF and Tigreans. Although this feeling maybe driven by fear, to us, the message you are sending is TPLF=Tigreans therefore do not attack TPLF that is committing haeinous crimes all over Ethiopia even all over the diaspora. What you are telling us is that let the atrocities continue. This message is telling us that Tigreans can’t differentiate between what it means to be Tigrean and what it means to be TPLF. Tigreans therefore are staunch supporters of TPLF. So there it goes the cycle of violence. what can you do to stop this? Most likely you will choose distruction in Ethiopia by believing the signs are in your court that this method will protect Tigreans. At the same time there is no guarantee. I say let the winner win. If you have the concern of the rest of Ethiopians and to live in peace side by side with the rest of ethiopia, solve your problem right now.     It is honesty hard to communicate with Ethiopians. I have lived now with foreign citizens for more than 20 years.I can live with any human from every corner of the earth. But I find it too hard to live with Ethiopians. The thing is I do not fit in because my people in general the most backward people on the planet earth. This is something must be accepted and addressed as soon as possible. Our next generation cannot afford to inherit this backward human bevavior of self-destruction. For this reason, peace, without anything about me you telling me I am TPLF member. You have to ask yourself what you say can be a crime. Accusing someone one has something.

    I told in this forum, if I support TPLF, there is no man under the sun who can stop me.   33. Personally I don’t support burning private businesses per se. But I support destroying large scale farms that have been established through evictions of the people. Moreover, targeting TPLF/EPRDF regime-sponsored criminals, who go around and abuse people, is an essential part of the revolution against the draconian regime.
