Several Ethiopians drowned off Yemen coast

Over eighty Ethiopians and Somalis have drowned after two boats capsized as they headed for Yemen today, CNN reported. Many of them are feared dead.

(CNN) — More than 80 people are feared drowned after two boats capsized off the coast of Yemen, the coast guard in Aden said Monday.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry confirmed the incident on their state-run news site, adding that the two boats capsized in two different accidents and at two different sites.

According to a report on the official website of Yemen’s ruling party, three survivors have been recovered, all Somalis, from a boat that carried 46 people. The second boat was believed to have 35 to 40 people aboard. Most of those missing are thought to be from Ethiopia.

Search efforts were underway for any more possible survivors, coast guard officials are quoted as saying.

  1. ETHIOPIANS DEATH SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. ETHIOPIANS SHOULD NOT BE PUSHED INTO OCEANS AND WHO EVER PLAYS SUCH CRUEL ROLE SHOLUD BE PROSECUTED IN COURT OF LAW. ETHIOPIANS LIVES ARE PRECIOUS AS ANY OTHER EITHER ITS IN DEVELOPED OR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. SHAME ON MELESE FOR NEGLECTING THE PEOPLE HE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT.

  2. I feel sorry for the accident.
This shows, people already tired of the double digit growth for the last 7 years, and taking a risk for more by crossing to YEMEN?
    Incredible WOYANES tale…

  3. @Ewunet
I AND YOU SHOULD BARK FOR THE BLOOD OF OUR FELLOW ETHIOPIANS. WE ARE THE KEEPERS OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. I HOPE ONE DAY YOU AND YOUR KINDS WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT “ETHIOPIAWINET” (ETHIOPIANISM) MEANS. ALL OF US SHOULD STAND UP FOR THE WELL BEING OF ETHIOPIANS EITHER THEY ARE IN OR OUT OF ETHIOPIA.

  4. It’s tragic enough to cross over to a place called Yemen out of
all places, where close to 42,000 Ethiopians are already languishing in sub human conditions. The figure according to UNHCR reported on VOA where the voa crew confirmed that thousands of Ethiopians, mainly of Oromo origin can’t send their children to school nor leave them at home in case they wonder around to cause themselves a greater danger from some of the narrow minded Yemenis that mothers are forced to tie up their children to a bed leg for their own safety while the mothers venture out to fend for a living and bring something for their children to survive.
These mothers deserve to be reconized as mothers of the year if not mothers of the century. Something must be done for those who are already there and suffering more than death could have felt for them.
God bless those who are forgotten & neglected.
    Melkam Gena!!!
