Ethiopian Review’s Person of the Year to be announced

Ethiopian Review’s 2010 Person of the Year choice will be announced this coming Friday, Dec. 31. Person of the Year choice has become a much anticipated annual Ethiopian Review tradition that some times creates intense public discussion. Stay tuned.

    Elias, I hope you come up with something unique and game changing. I know not much activity is going on but we expect sth ERite.

  2. This year, we have seen several news makers:

    1. Presi. Esaya – betraying ER and EPPF;
    2. Dr. Berhanu – No tangible result;
    3. Birtukan Mideka – did nothing this year except being released from prison
    4. Prof. Al Mariam – for posting weekly articles (of course on his lap top)
    5. Obang Meto – for posting series of call for cooperation (but not successful, to be frank)

    But I give special consideration for Bulcha Demeksa – the first political leader to give up his leadership post

    Brother Elias did a terrible blunder to nominate a merciless killer as ER person of the year 2009.Not only that but trying to defend the indefencible and fallaciously praise a beast that commites all kinds of evil against our people is making you guilty by association and it will come to haunt you the rest of your life unless you distance yourself from the beast before its too late.We Eritreans are working around the clock to undo the beast and it seems that our fight for justice and democracy is gaining momentum every passing day.Building a nation where justice and democracy prevails as well as living with our neighbours in harmony and in peace is on the horizon.

    after explaining President Issayas the way you did, it’s fair to expect you to be able to explain the reasons why, would you?
    The thread was 2011’s Person of the year, here you are sweating to explain who shouldn’t be than should be. It’s human nature with full of hate and jealousy when a person knows only what he/she doesn’t like. It would make you look reasonable if you at least mention one person you think should win.
    If I say Issayas Afeworki would win if he runs to be an to be president of Ethiopia, I’m not kiddin’ and I suggest for you to double check if your last name is not Palin before you jump to show your digital hate again.
    I wish you to have what you’re named after (assuming that’s the one on your Green Card).

  6. To be frank who could truly deserve to be ER person of the year?For me there are only two choice
    Prof. Alemariam.
    If not him, i would go for
    ESAT TV. Though it has been on and off air, it has created lots of awareness and fact checks for Ethiopians about the true nature of the Melese mafia circles.

  8. Elias, this time please put someone who contributed a lot to our motherland in terms of education, art or charity or some other interesting staff. Let’s leave the politicians alone. Let’s not repeat the same mistake as last year choosing the tyrant Isayas as person of the year.

  11. In my opinion, if we are doing the right choice, Pro. Alemayehu, Berhanu Nega, ESAT TV. and Birtukan would be the right nominees but I argue that Dr. Berhanu is a man of great vision and pragmatism.

    Elias use your common sense and discuss the matter among the editorial board staffs and come up with a big surprise.

    I know he seems to thrive with controversial announcements/news, but also deep inside he does have some dignity/civility left still & wants some amazement from the larger silenced majority of the diaspora somehow

    You better tell us which planet you came from so we explain what makes shifta issaias a tyrant.By any standard,your master shifta Issaias is one of the worst dictators in the world committing plenty of told and untold atrocities without being provoked against our kind and peaceful people.Some of the worst crimes he commited was initiating unnecessary wars with all our neighbours causing a huge loss of lives and properties.Did I mention that the shifta and his cronnies have made untold number of people disappear in the thin air(without a trace) as if they didn’t exist or loved.Do you have any idea how many people are now suffering in his gungeons,fox holes and metal containers for little or no crimes.What about the parlamenterians,the military commanders that made Eritrean independence a reality and the countless journalists that have been held in communicado for the last 10 years (Most of them have been reported dead from mistreatment)and never given a chance to defend themselves in the court of law.Then again mowing down disabled veterans(Sinkulat Tegadeltti)in Mai Habar in 1994 for simply demanding a kitchin table issues wouldn’t make him a a blood sucker monster?His crimes are too many and too long to list.These crimes of your masters are only the tip of the iceberg.Thats why we the pro democracy forces from all over the world are fighting tyranny vigoursly to curb a future disaster that the shifta and his cohorts have in store for us.

    During Badme war, Isyas out sprinted his generals. He is the fastest running president still in office.

As the current document from the makelawi prison shows he speaks the truth though the tplf ‘gerafis’ promised him that he will be freed had he speaked the other way round. In a time were even the so called religious leaders are scarred about talking the truth, we have got a model from the makelawi prison hell, Ato Tsige H/ Mariam!!!

  38. it is rather the misconception that is in the naming of the man of the year that seems to needs some explanation and thorough understanding. It seems to me that it is the story the person named had generated both negatively and positively affecting a group people or humanity in general that is of the essence of the selection. To think that to be selected to be person of the year is to honor that person is as wrong an understanding as any wrong can be. One is not often mentioned in what good he does but in what bad and undesirable acts and human history’s pages are full of them and not a single time did we resort to white them out depending degree of their good or bad nature than highlight them. The objective is the future lesson that is to be drawn and both the negative and the positive are the valued scripts to learn from and seen in that light. we hope to learn some thing from the person your choice and your choice be it good or bad.

  44. I posted a comment earlier in a hest late night ,seeing it in retrospect I wanted to correct and elaborate on what I had written and wanted to edit it but couldn’t that I reposted the corrected version as I would like it read and understood.

  45. Birtukan Medeksa should be the person of the DECADE.
    All others are not tested yet.

    Birtukan deserve this title. She is the a winner in world’s eye and a special hero for all Ethiopians.

  46. In my opinion, this year’s person of the year should be given to Ato. Hailemariam Desalegn, our foreign minister and deputy PM, for making it to these high positions with out firing a single bullet. That is what I call peaceful transfer of power.

  47. i don’t think your selection matters to us anymore. there is a saying that goes “wisdom is proven right through time”. and the same can be said about foolishness. Your understanding of current events in Ethiopia is idiotic. time has demonstrated again and again that you view as having no particular quality or worth. simply put its all foolishness.

  48. Why are so many obsessed with President Isaias? He is a man who leads by principle. Leave him alone, and chose one among your politicians. Comparing him with Ethiopian politicians is like comparing Brazil with Ethiopia in football:)

  50. #98 Sammy: It appears that most Eritreans are more interested in bragging, fantasizing, and getting false sense of self worth than living in the real world. If all Eritreans are like this Sammy character and his delusional outlook, I think Eritrea is doomed to fail for real. Most are frozen in a time capsule of the past and appear not to wake up from that frozen state.
