@ # 26, selam
well said ! but remember the whole purpose of choosing him was to bring down the meles regime not b/c ur beast is democratic…
your naming, “iseyas the best ” is so funny and fits him very well. he is really a beast haha..
Elias, I hope you come up with something unique and game changing. I know not much activity is going on but we expect sth ERite.
This year, we have seen several news makers:
1. Presi. Esaya – betraying ER and EPPF;
2. Dr. Berhanu – No tangible result;
3. Birtukan Mideka – did nothing this year except being released from prison
4. Prof. Al Mariam – for posting weekly articles (of course on his lap top)
5. Obang Meto – for posting series of call for cooperation (but not successful, to be frank)
But I give special consideration for Bulcha Demeksa – the first political leader to give up his leadership post
Yes I absolutely agree with you Selam #26.
Brother Elias did a terrible blunder to nominate a merciless killer as ER person of the year 2009.Not only that but trying to defend the indefencible and fallaciously praise a beast that commites all kinds of evil against our people is making you guilty by association and it will come to haunt you the rest of your life unless you distance yourself from the beast before its too late.We Eritreans are working around the clock to undo the beast and it seems that our fight for justice and democracy is gaining momentum every passing day.Building a nation where justice and democracy prevails as well as living with our neighbours in harmony and in peace is on the horizon.
‘Melkam Genna and Happy New Year’
@ Kewle, can you explain why you called President Issayas a tyrany?
@ Selam,
after explaining President Issayas the way you did, it’s fair to expect you to be able to explain the reasons why, would you?
The thread was 2011’s Person of the year, here you are sweating to explain who shouldn’t be than should be. It’s human nature with full of hate and jealousy when a person knows only what he/she doesn’t like. It would make you look reasonable if you at least mention one person you think should win.
If I say Issayas Afeworki would win if he runs to be an to be president of Ethiopia, I’m not kiddin’ and I suggest for you to double check if your last name is not Palin before you jump to show your digital hate again.
I wish you to have what you’re named after (assuming that’s the one on your Green Card).
To be frank who could truly deserve to be ER person of the year? For me there are only two choice
Prof. Alemariam.
If not him, i would go for
ESAT TV. Though it has been on and off air, it has created lots of awareness and fact checks for Ethiopians about the true nature of the Melese mafia circles.
w/ro Hirut G/ezraber Tessema
Elias, this time please put someone who contributed a lot to our motherland in terms of education, art or charity or some other interesting staff. Let’s leave the politicians alone. Let’s not repeat the same mistake as last year choosing the tyrant Isayas as person of the year.
azeb mesfin, you know she struggled with cruel derg and now she is contrubuting for different charity organization. she is helping street children.she is fighting HIV.
why not aboy sebhat nega, the giant tyrant and bucher?
In my opinion, if we are doing the right choice, Pro. Alemayehu, Berhanu Nega, ESAT TV. and Birtukan would be the right nominees but I argue that Dr. Berhanu is a man of great vision and pragmatism.
Short lists
1.Abebe Belew
2.Tamagne Beyene
3.Birtukan Medekisa
4.EPPF staffs
5.ESAT staffs
6.Prof.Almariam
7.Other peace,human right,social,or political activists that I don’t know their name.
8.Journalists who defected or are still in Ethiopia Example ESKINDER NEGA.
Elias use your common sense and discuss the matter among the editorial board staffs and come up with a big surprise.
To Ethiopians.hell Woyane and his dogs Halafi and Gezaie.
Elias,
You should choose Abrha Belai of Ethiomedia. Because he posted some of your writtings this year:-)
Second choice could be one of the TWO presidents of Ivory Coast: Gbagbo or Outtara…
Professor Al for me. The prime Minster can be nominated but, he won’t fall under this category. May be a butcher, racist, tyrant & NAZI of the YEAR.
“MatiT says:
PRZ ISAYAS AFEWORKI MAN OF THE YEAR 2011.”
“BEN says:
ISSAYAS AFWERKI SHOULD BE THE MAN OF THE YEAR COS HE MAKE ERITREA ECONMY TIGER AND ONE OF THE FASTES ECOMICY GROWTH IN WORLD OF 2011 THEREFOR HE DESERVE IT”
You people left Ethiopia and Ethiopiawinet for Good because you don’t want to be part of Ethiopia. Remember! You said Ethiopia was your “colonizer” Now, you have the nerve to comeback and nominate one of the world worst oppressor to be nominated on Ethiopian Forum? You people have no shame. We got our own Ethiopian heroes and heroins to nominate. Why don’t you go to Asmarino and nominate Issyas PM for life there.
as usual one of your heroes–either Isaias Aforkie or the somali islamic courts :)
Man of the year for 2010, I will go again with the lion of NAKFA Isayas Afowerki. A never kneel down attitude a true Eritrean who stands for peace in the horn of Africa.
ማንን ማመን ይቻላል ሁሉም እንደ ሣሙና ሙልጭ እያለ አስቸግ Rል
MENGESTU HAILEMARIAM!!!!!
HE is STILE PRESEDENT OF ETHIOPIA!!!
Birtukan is Person of the YEAR
Birtukan who else deserve it.
Elias,
I hope u r not going to choose Esayas Afewerki again to suck up just like last year.
Anyaways, this site is not credible because it is not objective, rather subjective. So it does not natter
Zooma said “Pro. Alemayehu, Berhanu Nega, ESAT TV and Birtukan ”
I happened to concur with that sentiment…………knowing what I know now Elias is very unlikely to select Elias or any of the Gorilla fighter leaders………………
I know he seems to thrive with controversial announcements/news, but also deep inside he does have some dignity/civility left still & wants some amazement from the larger silenced majority of the diaspora somehow
Tazabi! Tikur Chaka must be the best person of the year. Thank you Elias.
# 28(Meaza Abreha Zeilo) I like your coment”Isaias Afeworki of Eritrea should be man of the year”.Which one you mean Isaias Afewoki Tsegai or Isaias Afeworki Abrham. I guess you want the first one because he is you son.
Realist #54/55
You better tell us which planet you came from so we explain what makes shifta issaias a tyrant.By any standard, your master shifta Issaias is one of the worst dictators in the world committing plenty of told and untold atrocities without being provoked against our kind and peaceful people. Some of the worst crimes he commited was initiating unnecessary wars with all our neighbours causing a huge loss of lives and properties.Did I mention that the shifta and his cronnies have made untold number of people disappear in the thin air(without a trace) as if they didn’t exist or loved.Do you have any idea how many people are now suffering in his gungeons, fox holes and metal containers for little or no crimes. What about the parlamenterians, the military commanders that made Eritrean independence a reality and the countless journalists that have been held in communicado for the last 10 years (Most of them have been reported dead from mistreatment)and never given a chance to defend themselves in the court of law. Then again mowing down disabled veterans(Sinkulat Tegadeltti)in Mai Habar in 1994 for simply demanding a kitchin table issues wouldn’t make him a a blood sucker monster? His crimes are too many and too long to list. These crimes of your masters are only the tip of the iceberg.Thats why we the pro democracy forces from all over the world are fighting tyranny vigoursly to curb a future disaster that the shifta and his cohorts have in store for us.
Death to dictatorship,
Justice and Democracy will prevail,
Ezi Wedhanka,
Elias, Birtukan, should be the person of the year.
Isyas should be the president of the decade.
During Badme war, Isyas out sprinted his generals. He is the fastest running president still in office.
Good job president.
I THINK Dr MERARA GUDINA SHOULD BE NOMINATED AS PERSON OF 2010, FOR HIS BOLD STAND AGAINST THE WEYANE WOLVES. PEACE FOR ALL…
Shame on u,Elias, u always ignore my comment, but why? What is wronge with u? So pls don´t send me any news via my e-mail address. I ´m realy disappointed.
Ato Tsige H/mariam should be man of the year. As the current document from the makelawi prison shows he speaks the truth though the tplf ‘gerafis’ promised him that he will be freed had he speaked the other way round. In a time were even the so called religious leaders are scarred about talking the truth, we have got a model from the makelawi prison hell, Ato Tsige H/ Mariam!!!
MINISTER BEREKET SIMON defnitely have to be man of the year because of as we all know his both parents are eritrean ethiopians but minister Bereket didn’t bow for poisonous shabia propaganda as most eritreans italian serevants who betrayed their mother land ethiopia; he is special ethiopian.
He deserve man of the year or man of ethiopian.
Please Colonel Taddese Muluneh as a person of the year. He has served his country first as a pilot and new as a politician and a fighter since the age of 17.
The person of the year should be the man who built a golden statue for himself in the city of Addis Ababa, and that person is Aba Paulos!
why not add to ONLF chairman, Mohamed Omar?
isayss should be the person of the year for turning eritreans into refugees. he is a true ethiopian for bringing Misery to miserable people. pray he rules that country for 100 years until they are exterminated.
The Lion of Nakafa does not need man of the year title gain. He is blessed because 99 percent of his people love him and respect him. Wayane traitors can say whatever they want to say. They are scared of Isayas. Please discusse about HUMERA, Walkait and RAY Azabo fertile agriculture lands grabbed by WAYANE and those who are fighting to get back their lands. Those Fighters deserve the TITLE.
it is rather the misconception that is in the naming of the man of the year that seems to needs some explanation and thorough understanding. It seems to me that it is the story the person named had generated both negatively and positively affecting a group people or humanity in general that is of the essence of the selection. To think that to be selected to be person of the year is to honor that person is as wrong an understanding as any wrong can be. One is not often mentioned in what good he does but in what bad and undesirable acts and human history’s pages are full of them and not a single time did we resort to white them out depending degree of their good or bad nature than highlight them. The objective is the future lesson that is to be drawn and both the negative and the positive are the valued scripts to learn from and seen in that light. we hope to learn some thing from the person your choice and your choice be it good or bad.
Birtukan Medeksqa
@ Fithasawi #77, My sixth sense and your way bluffing tells me you’re one of those who claims to be religious but believes in the pay per article west media mainly (US & UK) more than the bible. People who are disconnected with reality like you mostly are lonely, unhappy individual with no love life and lives by only being fed nigative. Claiming to be fighting dictatorship from all over the world? You can sell that to your likes, it’s easy to reach them cause they only exist online.
I vote for Birtukan as person of the year.
I think it is going to be Sheikh Mohamed Abu Abdalla of Hisbo alislam of Somalia. Those who are considered terrorists by the majority are not necessarily so to ethiopianreview.
elias
pick mengistu hailemariam or isayas afewerk so next years person of the year will be even more anticipated…elias you remind me of this mad man (ibd) in merkato area that walks naked attracting every one attention. now i know why he was doing what he was doing..attention.
I posted a comment earlier in a hest late night ,seeing it in retrospect I wanted to correct and elaborate on what I had written and wanted to edit it but couldn’t that I reposted the corrected version as I would like it read and understood.

They often are the events and event makers that swing our hopes, aspirations and essence of living between high hopes and despair, sorrow and happiness, celebration and morning, victory and defeat, reach and failure, progress and retrogress. At least from historic perspective they are simply realities that have come to pass or stay independently of our intentions and desires. The objective is the future lesson that is to be drawn and both the negative and the positive are the valued scripts to learn from in what to avoid and what to follow. Seen in that light, we hope to learn something from the person of your choice and your choice; be it good or bad.
Birtukan Medeksa should be the person of the DECADE.
All others are not tested yet.
Birtukan deserve this title. She is the a winner in world’s eye and a special hero for all Ethiopians.
In my opinion, this year’s person of the year should be given to Ato. Hailemariam Desalegn, our foreign minister and deputy PM, for making it to these high positions with out firing a single bullet. That is what I call peaceful transfer of power.
i don’t think your selection matters to us anymore. there is a saying that goes “wisdom is proven right through time”. and the same can be said about foolishness. Your understanding of current events in Ethiopia is idiotic. time has demonstrated again and again that you view as having no particular quality or worth. simply put its all foolishness.
Why are so many obsessed with President Isaias? He is a man who leads by principle. Leave him alone, and chose one among your politicians. Comparing him with Ethiopian politicians is like comparing Brazil with Ethiopia in football:)
It’s too bad I can’t vote for you mr.Elias .when our country is falling apart in every way,you have been trying every which way to help your country. You are definitely guilt-free. It should be our new year’s resolutions to work as hard as you do. Have a happy new year. May god bless you
#98 Sammy: It appears that most Eritreans are more interested in bragging, fantasizing, and getting false sense of self worth than living in the real world. If all Eritreans are like this Sammy character and his delusional outlook, I think Eritrea is doomed to fail for real. Most are frozen in a time capsule of the past and appear not to wake up from that frozen state.
If worshiping a wacky despot like Issayas makes you feel good, go ahead and and brag about it. You fool no one but yourself. Miskinoch, mechem guran muya bilachihu yezachihutal.
