Siye Abraha’s brother released from jail

Assefa Abraha, brother of former defense minister Siye Abraha, has been released from jail yesterday for good behavior after serving 7 of his 9-year prison sentence.

About a year ago, the Woyanne kangaroo court in Ethiopia, had sentenced Assefa to 9 years in prison after finding him guilty of corruption.

Assefa and another brother, Mehret-Ab Abrha, were arrested and charged withcorruption 7 years ago after their brother, a top official of the Tigray People Liberation Front (Woyanne) and minister of defense, had a fall out with Woyanne boss Meles Zenawi.

The brothers languished in jail for several years on charges of corruption.

Siye and Mehret-Ab were released last year. Siye is now under 24-hour surveillance by Meles Zenawi’s security agents.

I know Assefa Abrha in Maekelawi, the Dergue Hell on Earth.He was a good guy who activly participated for the well being of the detains , circumistances permitting.We were in the same committe which raised funds to purchase a Tv set and benchs. Since we resided in diffrent ‘Gibi’, upper and lower, I can’t say more.
    If and wether power corrupted him , I don’t know.I also know Seye when he was a defense minster. He was a better person compared to the lot. He spoke his mind !

  5. “Put Elias in jail instead the thug, Siye”? I disagree! Elias is a true haman being that wants the betterment of all Ethiopians. Siye is an opportunist who still lives in an un attainable dream of “Greater Tigrai” at the expense not only of some Ethiopian lands of Wollo, Beghemder etc, but also parts of Eritrea! That doesn’t sound a hero’s action. To me, he sounds more like a bloody fool who is going to put the country more at risk by creating many enemies from within and without! That is not the Ethiopia I like to see – an Ethiopia rulled by a criminal who wants to continue millking the resources of the country and building a little enclave in Tigrai. I am not a Tigrean, but, I feel sorry for the poor Tigreans in whose name Ethiopia is being raped and they still end up in utter destitute!

  6. Two wrongs don’t make right. We should condom arresting anybody without a due process. What is the difference b/w you people who are advocating the arrest of Elias and Meles’s court?
    You may not like him, but you are not the judges. I mean not the Meles appointed judges who pass sentence against the law/constitution, but the judges that will be independent and loyal to the law of the land not Meles.

I heared that Assefa Abraha had been jailed during Mengistu hailemarim era for almost 10 years for just being the brother of Seeye Abraha and for more than 7 years in a trumped up charges by dictator meles to destroy his eleder brother Seeye Abraha. All in all this innocent person has been in jail for more than 17 years. What is happening to our country? Innocents and law abiding citizens are being thrown in jail for years while traitors and crimnals like that of dictator meles and co. are enjoying the abudance of Ethiopian life. This absolutly doesn’t make sense to a rational human being. Mengistu is enjoying life after commiting unimaginable attrocities on our people and Meles and co. are living like royals while destryoing innocent citizens on a daily basis. It is shame shame shame. This can’t be happening in Ethiopia, the land of justice where no man is wronged. God help us!

  8. Assefa Abraha has been convicted of fraud and corrupton by his own Woyannes and can not be cleansed of all other crimes to which he and his Big Brother need to answer in due time.

    Why do you wish Elias Kifle to be put in prison. Do you evils know anything or do you have sny infomation on something bad that Elias did. The reason why woyanes and some others hate Elias is because his website is always updated with mostly breaking news about his country Ethiopia and moreover it is becase he is not baised, does not take sides with any group and hence his site has the greatest hits so far than any other Ethiopian sites.

    If gano and kebe are wishing that this great guy,Elias, to be in prison, how are you different from the midget Meles Zenawi and his agazi blood thirsty beasts that killed chilredn, seniors and our mothers and sisters. Rather, I wish you guys be put in Guantanamoy bay for supporting terrorists like Meles and his destructive ideas.

  10. Kebe is typical Woyane — He wants to lock up Elias & family. Woyane brains work over time plotting of ways to put people in jail or to kill them. People like Kebe and the diabolical, small-minded and vindictive Meles spend too much time thinking of how to harm others.

    I hope Aseffa Abraha has learned his lessons. The monster he helped to create turned around and bit him. I have worked with Asseffal and I appreciated his candor and straight forward way. He is probably the brightest of that lot. I wish him well.

  12. Siye and family are CRIMINALS who only broke ranks with Meles the tyrant in their power struggle. Assesfa Abraha speareheaded the looting of Ethiopia in the name of investment and committed so many crimes against Ethiopia and Ethiopians.

    Assefa “sold” the only mine in Ethiopia as well as so many State owned enterprises to the Woyane crime enabler Sheik Al Amoudi and other criminals. In so doing legitimate business investors such as the Southe African Mining Giant who first won the bid to take over the only mine were denied by Assefa Abraha. Soon after Assefa Abraha was rewarded money by the Sheikh, he reversed the awarding of the mine to the South Africans in favor of the Sheikh. This is just one example among many corrupt practices and crimes he committed with the direct approval of his patron, Siye Abraha.

    I will not be surprised if this criminal like his brother is to be heralded by the Woyane proxy web site “Ethiomedia” as a hero. As far as I am concerned, Assefa and his family members are criminals and ‘ll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law in the future democratic republic of Ethiopia!!!

    Elias Kifle is right now at the heart of all the misleadings,malinforming the unsuspecting and essentially showing “the Ethiopians” and their beloved country the roads of desturction.

    You think you are immune to all your crimes? Be sure. One day you will face the music and recoup the fruits of your deed.

  18. First and foremost the Seye family were not jailed for non political reasons. Corruption is as always a cover up. They are all corrupted. Their difference lies in the narrowest sense of raciism: who is more concerned for the Tigrians and who is not. The Seye family thinks that the Tigrieans are not benifited as much as they have contributed to the success of Weyane and Melese is blamed for giving every opportunity for the Eritrians even under conflicts. They all have been killers and locusts for that country. Any one who is in conflict with Meles is not always a good one.

  23. No human being should stay in prison for being different in his thinking or philosophy. Individual rights are sacreed and should be respercted with no exception. There is no independednt juduciary in Ethiopia now and citizens can be thrown to jial at the whim of any arrogant politicians. We should fight to change that.

This is a family feud between criminals and doesn’t warrant attention by the Ethiopian people, it is like Tony Soprano ordering a hit on one of his made men because he crossed him, this crime family is trying to distract the Ethiopian people from the task at hand, that is the total destruction of the criminals who are destorying Ethiopia with each passing day. A rotting regime will start to fracture at its waning days, it was the same with Ngus Haileselassie and Menghistu when their seemingly invincible regimes started to crumble under pressure from oppressed people. I have been struggling for the release of Seye Abreha because he has nothing to do with corruption, but I think this fellow has something to do with corruption.I say he deserves it.He is the one who sold a lot of former government enterprises getting benefits from individuals buying it.He should not allowed to have personal wealth until he pays all our money.

  27. We need no one’s family in jail. No Elias, Hagos or mohammed should go to jail. We need a country where most jails turn into schools and hospitals. Stalinist mentality has dominated the Ethiopian mind. Everyone’s brain is infected with hurting their opponent by torture, embarassment, and murder. We all need some kind of psychiatric help. We should work on healing ourselves.

  29. Sometimes I read comments & articles posted on this site and others and chuckle. We always argue based on the rules set by our oppressors. Why don’t we talk about facts, ideas, things which may bring real changes. Why don’t we learn to read an article and judge it based on facts not by our stereotypes. I don’t have any idea whether Assefa is guilty or not and Also I don’t believe staying six years in jail doesn’t make Siye Abrha a responsible proud ethiopian to lead that country because just ask yourself simple question “What made Siye Abrha to believe in Democratic Ethiopia and to stand against EPRDF?” easy? The thing he was doing on others happened on him.

In a minute he let go the grievance and misunderstanding that existed between the two parties.
    He hagged his former enemies and told them that “the past is already passed behold it was a brotherhood fight that we had ,being defendant of different Ideologies,” The very terms of his while addressing the case at Debrezeit Air Force Base. Till the End he stood with his words and is ,we believe, standing too.
