Columbia students express outrage at Meles invitation

A newspaper run by Columbia students, Columbia Spectator, writes about student reactions to the invitation to Ethiopia’s genocidal tyrant Meles Zenawi to give keynote address on September 22.

Initially, Columbia asked Meles to speak about Ethiopia and African leadership [see here]. That was changed to “The Current Global Economy and its Impact [see here].” The latest is “The Current Global Environment and its Impact in Africa [see here and here].”

Meles is not qualified to speak on none of the three subjects. His expertise is how to come to and stay in power through trickery, deceit, backstabbing, blackmailing, arrest, torture and murder of his opponents, innocent people and even his own colleagues.

  1. How can an incompetent barbaric minority tyrant dictator of the last 20 years who himself have been actively putting in place programs of destroying the lives and livings of 80 million Ethiopians as well as burning forests, bushes, fertile land areas which happen to be out side of his comfortable tiny ethnic area derserve to talk anything around the issue?

Folks. Isn’t it his inhuman regime of bad governance who a while ago intentionally and brutally massacred one of one of the most rarest African LIONS just inside the park and sold their skins for $100 each?

And yet, he must be authorized to speak about Global environment and its impact on Africa?

That authorization amounts to inviting a wolf to make a public speech about the welfare of the sheep community and its impact on the security of the animal kingdom. Hmm… :)

  2. ATTN: Dear Democratic President Meles,

I hope you will read this someday. Perhaps a miracle which happen and your democratic attitude will change.

Democracy is not election to screen the votes of a nation with the filter of your own opinion. Democracy is not taking what other’s for yours, for your own survival. Democracy is not choking the voices so that no harsh word could aggrieve your ears. Democracy is not ruling a totalitarian regime under the name of a Republic. Democracy is not that minority chains majority. Democracy is not describing the sacred things as your own and charging anyone who says anything against you with heresy. Democracy is not being a caring foster for other countries’ people and being an unkind stepmother for your own nation. Democracy is not to play with words and to invert the truth and still discourse on freedom of speech. Democracy is not that whatever we say is not democratic and whatever you say is democratic.

Democracy is what my brothers and sisters requested for and you shed their blood because of it. But still we haven’t given up on our dream.

  3. Good observation, Elias. You are really doing great. I also think it would be great if you send this info out to the Columbia Spectator editors to be analyzed (the reason behind this shifting of the topics) and help prepare students to ask him and Columbia officials.
Your investigation has clearly shown to us that Columbia invited Meles, not to help students learn from him – because they kept on changing the topic to make him appear learned and shield him from grilling – but as a pay back. He has helped those two professors amass wealth and prestige and now it is time to give back.

  4. #3, are you serious? Meles knows what Democracy stands for, but he doesn’t have the heart for it, and he never will. Meles sees kindness, fairness and Democracy as weakness. You have a better chance converting the other cold-blooded killer Binladen to Christianity, or converting the Catholic Pope to Islam, than asking the heartless and the cold-blooded killer Meles to believe in Democracy. In the last twenty years, Ethiopians have seen who the real Meles is:–the most dangerous, hateful, insensitive, uncompassionate, merciless, vindictive, vicious, a blood-thirsty killer and looter, we have ever seen. Meles has the darkest heart as Hitler, Stalin and the likes. The more Meles abuses and spills the blood of non-woyane Ethiopians, the more powerful and happier Meles feels. Meles can’t help it not to be an abuser, he is a man that was born without empathy and a narcissist that only love himself.

  5. If there was justice in this world, the Ethiopian tyrant would be arrested and jailed for genocide as soon he lands in the USA. This invitation is mind-boggling, to say the least.

  6. Dear Colleagues,
What many couldn`t realize is that the current Ethiopian regime govenance is just a copy-cat of the formerly South African Apparthied regime…for instance in aprthied South Africa, the goverment`s proclaiimed central policy was administration and development of `home-land`, which is the equavalent of Ethiopia`s `Kilil`; even the workd `Kilil` which means exclude or forbid sounds harsher than `home-land`. To comprehend more about the similarity between current Ethiopian Government and forme South African Aparthied syste, I suggest you to read Nelson Mandela`s book: `Long Walk to Freedom`. Then, you will realize that the only difference being that in South Africal Aparthied was based on colour, but in Ethiopia it is based on your father`s blood`, ethnicity…..please challenge Meles to adress this issue in his `Colombian` lecture.

  7. Upon reading the article in the student newspaper, I came across a comment by one Eritrean Law school student at Columbia, Haben Fekadu. On the comment section, one can easily see how the Woyanes and their ilk get irritated simply by the reference made to the student from Eritrea.

Hope to see more of this kind of active participation also from students at campus hailing from Somalia,The Sudan, Djibouti, Kenya and other African countries along with their fellow Ethiopians.

    Go Columbia Ethio demonstrators Go!!

The TPLF and its deceptive masters have to be exposed!

  8. Unknown to the world is the many voiceless ogaden wiped out in eastern ethiopia’s ogaden region.a place unaware of democracy and human rights. imagine of a young girl raped publicly by several Woyanne troops, slaughtering her father, brother, her husband and setting fire on their small thatched house without sparing young children from torture… surely i wonder whoever calls meles zenawi a democrat!
