  1. Elias,

You know UDJ will never be able to accomplish all that as long as Woyane is in power. I am not being pessimistic but realistic. So, this exercise is a west of your precious time unless you are trying to make a point.

  2. How can UDJ do this 8 points outside parliament? And when there are other disunited opposition parties in parliament who say they are trying whatever they can and will continue with the peaceful struggle in parliament eventhough we know that are paralysed and EPRDF will be happy if they stay in parliament as long as they can (if elected, most of them will be out – deelected in 2010). And we know whatever is the consitution in there is on paper only.

Unless the opposition parties form a united front and rally the people to persuade EPRDF to open the democratic forum for the next election, putting unnecessary pressure on one party UDJ is just a futile try and can be very discouraging. Priority should be unity among opposition parties and organising the people for the next fight.

Peaceful struggle, not only parliamentary talk, but doing the walk; civil disobedience may force EPRDF to compromise but it will not remove it from power. Only armed challenge can do. And this is impossible without a united front and a united idea that brings all Ethiopians together also. So, this kind of pressure from ER wont help. First focus on a united front and a united idea, a national programme that unites all – citizen’s charter.

  3. It’s a good idea. What about using a five-point scale becaus sometimes a sort of compromise may be reached which may not fall into an all-or-none dicothomy. This is however only a theoretical issue because we all very well know apriory that the media we would expect=0

  4. I like the pressure. You have to be pragmatic though. How about updating your scoreboard every year? (for maximum of 3 years, which is a good enough time to earn a BS or become BS :))

  5. I think there is a confusion. CUD presented the 8 points proposal to the dictatorial regime underlining that the CUD will let the Woyanne regime continue its grip on power despite the vote rigging and all rounded harassmnet and intimidation if Woyanne agrees, in the time to come, the 8 points should be put in effect. The 8 points were not promises the CUD made; they are something the Woyanne regime should implement for the good of the public and the country. Woyanee refused to accept and the proposal is no longer. Having this fact, giving scores for delivering or failing to deliver the 8 points, if need be, should be to Woyanee, not the UDJ. Otherwise, it amounts to saying the CUD has promised to give us these 8 points but has not. Let us be sensible. Thrashing the UDJ, which is becoming common on this web site, will not do us any good. Let us be its instrument and support it to get rid of Woyanee, not their enemies who try to take evey chance to thrash them. Let us identify friends and enemies; UDJ is a friend to Ethiopians. The real enemy is Woyanee. Let us stop squablling with our friends and start fighting our enemies.

    Thank you,
I hope Elias posts my comment!

  6. You have a methodological problem because some of the points (like AA city council) are already “outdated”. However, it is good to keep reminding the opposition that the key elements of democratization should remain on the agenda. This is about ELECTION BOARD, THE MEDIA, SECURITY FORCES and THE JUDICIARY.

  7. Elias,

Why don’t you grade your friend Lidetu as well!

    ———————–

Lidetu is not an opposition any more. He is a tool for Woyanne. – Elias

  8. Gudu Kassa says: I 100 % agree
    Elias,

“You know UDJ will never be able to accomplish all that as long as Woyane is in power. I am not being pessimistic but realistic. So, this exercise is a west of your precious time unless you are trying to make a point
“I am from a lobby firm DLA Piper. I have a question to you and Ms Ana Gomes. Why don’t you fight the government in Ethiopia, like Professor Mesfin does, than from Diaspora?” the lobbyist asked”

  9. Gudu Kassa says:”So, this exercise is a west of your precious time unless you are trying to make a point”
….. I 100 % agree with you. Speaking of making a point, i want to make a point for those blindly optimistics and for those who are still hang up on KINIJIT clones. All the answer for your doubts can be found at the EU HR hearing. Let me explain.
1, “I am from a lobby firm DLA Piper. I have a question to you and Ms Ana Gomes. Why don’t you fight the government in Ethiopia, like Professor Mesfin does, than from Diaspora?” the lobbyist asked.
This guy was supposed to defend or explain to the hearing what TPLF did to Ethiopian people. He didn’t do that. He dint care, he came with one ajenda, a negotiation to make them move to Ethiopia.
ONE MAY ASK, Why does TPLF care about their enemy to come home and give them trouble? Who knowingly invites an enemy to his/her home? No one i know, unless they have plan the vistor. TPLF have divvies plan for Ginbot 7. Why are ,wolf in a sheep cloth, pro democracy web sites are happy about Birtukan, why why wy, LIBELOTE FELEGOTEN AMORA GIGRA NATE YELOTAL.
I cant say it more clearly than her.
“In Portugal, we also had the same brutal dictator as that of Meles Zenawi,” Ana Gomes responded to the lobbyist. “We fought it both from inside and out side”
The sooner we gave up on them the sooner we get strength.
    Regards,

  10. UDJ will fail 8 times like a lazy boy who repeats his first grade 8 times on the question of the 8 points.

good job Tegbar for putting the situation in a very understanding way. UDJ has agreed for Tigrean People Liberation Front to rule forever and UDJ be a junior partner. a partner that serves better than Beyene Petros and Merrara Gudina

  11. The Editor of the Ethiopian Review had directed a constructive criticism against the UDJP led by Birtkuna Mideksa. He has not scolded the UDJP as he had Engineer Hailu Shawel and Dr. Taye Woldesemayat. The composition of the leadership of the UDJP shows that there are only soft persons who who would not want to confront the TPLF by raising important issues like the 8 points. The UDJP is like the other loyal opposition groups. Birtukan is even softer than Dr. Beyene Petros towards the TPLF.

  12. Unless it tries to do such a scoring to all oppositions (at least to all that relate to the former Kinijt)it sounds that TEGBAR upholds ER’s view posted in the past about UDJ that sounded like “slandering” UDJ. In the first place why do we have to rush to pass judgements just in the morrow of the formation of the party. I am not sure if UDJ has received a certificate yet. TEGBAR, be patient and realistic. Yet, I do appreciate being critical if it is not skewed. Cheers,

  13. The greatest Failure of the opposition is still expecting to deal with tplf gangs after they sign away our peaceful struggle.to save their neck. Please stop this bull shit on our life. This murderers do’nt understand the word Peace. Those of you still crying for peace I wish you a great peaceful rest.Genbot 7 is the answer.please come on board or you will be overboard.

  14. i agree with tesfa. the 8 points is the wrong tool with which to evaluate the opposition. but you are doing a great job providing us with the mindset with which we can demand accountability from our leaders. its outrageous that the themselves did notmake it clear to us on what basis and which criteria we should base our judgement of their performance. no timescale, deadlines and clear objectves with roles responsibikity defined. is there a udj manifesto? maybe the leaders do not provide diaspora with documents and info because WE ARE NOT THE CONSTITUENTS!!! eli,If you say you are doing this on behalf of the people of Ehtiopia i would say WHO ASKED OR ELECTED YOU????????
Just ask for a refund of your money and shut the *** up. Selechehen ABO!!Find something else to nail your website traffic ratings on please. YOu have gone from reviewing to revolting. PUn intended. ppl told u log timeago thewere woyanes..
