You might have noticed the Ethiopian Top Model Liya Kebede in magazines, TV commercials or on the Internet. She has been modeling for a while and thanks to her very successful carrier, Liya was ranked eleventh on Forbes’ 2007 “World’s Top-Earning Models” List and fifteenth on the 2008 list. While some of her peers are busy partying, Liya who was born and raised in Ethiopia is striving to improve the lives of women and children in her native country and around the world through the Liya Kebede Foundation. As the top model points out, there is so much to be done but we will get there. Although she lives in New-York with her husband and their two children, Liya travels to Ethiopia on a regular basis and believes she ought to give back to her community.

Liya you know I used to admire you for your accomplishment in your career. However, you have given interview on aljaiza TV about a few month ago and when you were interviewed one caller did asked you how do you believe to overcome the problems you are trying to resolve in Ethiopia including fetal birth, famine and others beyond the lack of good governance who is terrorizing, killing and harassing his own people? You literally failed and scared to respond the right answer and you went around the bush to skip the issue. Since then I have been felt bad about you, how come a top model like you, a person who seems very smart in your life and well understand the situation of Ethiopia like you failed and scared to say one word about the current regime in Ethiopia. Liya you know the cause of all the problems that we have in ethiopia is lack of good governacne that is aboused and harrased by the little ethinic based power led by weyane ( TPLF) . Liya look at the human rights watch and the European Union who are not originally from Ethiopia but consistently expose the human rights disrespect in Ethiopia and you omitted to say nothing, shame on you girl. Liya I bet you hear all the time about the killings of innocent civilians by the weyane regime everyday. So who do you think would resolve the current Ethiopian lack of governance, unless we all have to find a solution by the potential we have. Liya I beleive we all have a resposniblity to save our country. Liya you have a big potential to expose the atrocities of the TPLF govt by any chance you can. You have the opportunity to get a media cover as many times as you can. Liya please, please use your resources to expose the TPLF regime to the rest of the world and we all will be use you since it is very crucial to save the Ethiopian people by any means that we can. Lets all work together to bring the best for the Ethiopian people.
Hagos Araya, before siding with you let me ask what have you done that you feel entitled to judge Liya? At minimum Liya is doing her share, saving lives.
Please provide what you have done so far and we can go after Liya together, until such time join me in praising Liya for what she has done, is doing and will be doing.
I admire and have so much respect for Leya Kebede who is a
young beautiful women who does not forget her countery .Women who are desperately need help.I hope all Ethiopian women will learn something from her. We all have
responsibility and it does not mean that we all have to be
in her position to do it . We can do it aslong as we do not
forget where we come from.
there are too many ethiopians hero who have done many remarkable things to their country and ppl ,but due to their social and economic status most of us tend to overlook their contributions.what makes me sad is that most of us adapted wrong and misguided attitud toward celbrties.please we shall stop worshiping these ppl.many of them, the so calld celbrties, are dollar cheser and have no consideration to other ppl because of their own selfish reasons.
in my holy judgement,we as a society can’t be able to escape poverty by charity.i don’t want to be the only person who know the dark side of charity.let us learn how to make our own breads .only this way we can improve our society existence.in every human history, bad gov and poverty are two sides of one coin.we shouldn’t expect any tagable progress from current regim bcause their aim is to bankrrupt our brain while feeding us false hope with empty stomach.
Hagos Araya,
I have read what you have written above and could not grasp the message you intended to pass. It is a kind of what the aradads say ” Feyele wedeih kezemzemit wedeya”.
Hi,I realy disappointed with a view posted by Hagos. He is just telling Liya to say what he belive is right, which is non sense.Liya can speak what she belive is right and wrong.Hagos,u can’t blame somebody for not saying what is in your mind. She is modelist, not politician. If she have the money to help poor Ethiopian, she can do.Dont expect people to say what is in ur mind. They are not ur….So let Liya say what she want and belive is right.Just leave her,if u belive in democracy, which u seems to be concerned. If u belive that ur idea is always right,u will become a foolish man on this earth.Dont forget that there are good things being done by the ruling party in Ethiopia.Dont ever expecte all people to hate the uling party in Ethiopia.Even if the opposition parties have their on weaknesse, try to see them where they are no,after they pardonned. They have splited in five parties, both abroad and local. What does this mean to you???If they realy belive in democracy and good governance, they should first solve their difference and be one as they were during the 2005 election in which many died for them.Dont u think that these people have a problem, which they are unable to solve.Lets all be smart than being emotional.Chaw.
All of you comentators; including Liya and us as a whole who are on exile, who are we? We all are the same like the rest of the Ethiopians who are starving in Ethiopia. It is just a matter of accidental opportunity. Instead we should look at ourselves very deeply and wisley, and say for HOW LONG ARE WE BEING PROTRAID AS A POOR NATION AND EXPECT A HAND OUT. It is us opportunists and the Ethiopian government’s responsibility to build our nation so that who ever remained behind will never never get hungry again. Interms of Liya or anybody else they are using our starving Ethiopian people to promote themselves. It is not a matter of beauty inside and out. okay. It should be a matter of principle and sacrifice. There are so many Ethiopians who should be introduced on this page who devoted their lives for these kind of cause.
hey i blieve that as an african and with the little oppertunity we have now we should strife to make a diffrence with our people that are left behind.in a sense we should use our knwoledge and be smart to help prevent these economic issue and human rights, by working in unity and riase a foudation in which organisation will see to promote, also preying helps just be patiance and keep hope, tahts how i got around in tough times.however it is good to see liya as an ethopian representing her country in these dramatic way, being a modele thats a great and open door for other ethopian modles to make a change.
