EDITOR’S NOTE: What a cruel and heartless person the ambassador must be to suggest that Ethiopia’s economy is on the right track, while at this very moment millions of children are facing horrific famine? On the other hand, it is hard to criticize the ambassador, since our own ‘leaders’ in the ‘opposition camp’ have little to say.

ADDIS ABABA — U.S Ambassador to Ethiopia said that the successive economic growth being registered in Ethiopia as well as the stable political system are of paramount importance for the peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
Ambassador Donald Yamamoto told the pro Ethiopian government news service WIC recently that the presence of stable political, economic and social conditions in Ethiopia help the country play crucial role towards ensuring peace and order in the region as well as in the fight against terrorism.
The contribution of peacekeeping troops in various African nations is also a visible manifestation of the country’s commitment for the prevalence of peace in the continent, the Ambassador indicated.
The deployment of peacekeepers to the Sudan, Darfur and the assistance the country has been extending to the transitional government of Somalia show the significant role the country has been playing to restore peace in the region, Yamamoto further noted.
Ethiopia has recorded a high economic growth among the sub-Saharan countries and this also contributes for the prevalence of peace in the region.
The governments as well as the peoples of the two nations have long standing relations; he indicated adding that further enhancing the relations in various sectors could also benefit the region apart from the two parties.

Come on Elias,
What do you expect from ambassador Donald Yamamoto? The guy is a messenger of Bush Adminstartion’s foreign policy which by the way the infamose Frazer is his boss. We know the relationship of Jendayi with Meles, seyoum and the whole nine yard. How can he say otherwise when they are giving Meles thousand of dollars in the name of “Development, medical equipment and medicine” and of course “food aid”. I do not expect any of the donor nations and more so the ever misleeding US adminstartion to to speak without puting any spin on it. They simply are not going to state that their policy has failed and failed miserably as long as they have a slave they can count on to run their errands in Legesse Chenawi.
Hallo!
I read the interview of Mr. Yamamato. The peace en development en economical grow what he is talking about is of Woyane. Ethiopians didn’t share the registerd economic growth. Economic growth which do not participate the mass (people) can not be considerd as a growth. that money goes to the elites of Woyane- (share holders in Europe and America). The present American government inc Yamamato has a very good relationship with Woyane but not with Ethiopians. They neglect our misery. why don’t they listean to their own media. millions of people are starving in the country where they claim growth.
they are inhumane.
Please read “Confessions of an economic hit man” and you will know how, why, and who is making the economy grow. Among others, IMF, WB and their highly paid and Langley trained economist. At least one whisle blower admitted his wrong doing and lived to tell it. Very ture and very scary. Enjoy!!!
Well done Elias. I fully agree with the commenet at #1.
The crude interference of the Ambassador in our internal affairs at this material time is to derail the brning issue of land ceded to the Sudan.
Bush and his diplomats will soon leave office and their conscience, if they have one at all, will grind them for the rest of lives for supporting the criminal regime of Meles Zenawi.
Every time when woyane do some thing we jump on it and sing about it.My brothers and sisters When do we start some things so woyane will sing?.WE only have each other our unity is a very powerful weapon please forget I and start WE.
What a bad joke! The talk about TPLF economic growth success is more of a fiction than reality. Tens of millions of Ethiopians are literally starving, even much worse than under the Dergue regime, except for famine years. Ethiopian urbanities are also facing the worst food price hikes, much worse than the Dergue era. They cannot afford of the most basic of food stuffs.
Yes, TPLF gangs cousins built some big buildings in Addis, Mekele, Adwa…And some roads. Yet, the cardinal measure of economic growth is the overall improvement of the livelihood of the majority of Ethiopians. The majority of Ethiopians are economically worse off under TPLF than Dergue. This is not empty anti-TPLF propaganda. We visite Ethiopia and know the real economic facts on the ground. We communicate with our relatives in Ethiopia. The only people who are happy about the TPLF fake economic growth are TPLF gangs, their hired hodams and some corrupt so-called business people, who are connected with TPLF and the hodams one way or the other. The rest of the society complain about the economic pain under the TPLF regime more than they have ever done before. They worry about how they can feed their children 24/7. This is true through out Ethiopia.
Amidst all this Ethiopia-wide economic crisis and starvation tragedy, TPLF gangs cook the numbers and talk about economic growth. TPLF agents lie about everything. Ethiopia’s economic growth lie is just one more lie of the TPLF. In reality, it is not there. The overwhelming majority of Ethiopians are suffering from economic hardships under the TPLF as they never suffered before.
Of course, their supporters of the West, particularly USA, also are known to lie like hell to cover the tragedy the TPLF regime brought on the Ethiopian people, regarding economic crisis, human rights abuses….TPLF regime inflicted on the Ethiopian people. Nothing new. Meles is an errand boy of the USA, who is on his feet 24/7 to do their dirty work in the region. And in turn, the West lie for him to the Ethiopian people and the world. But they don’t want to acknowledge that Ethiopian people are smarter than they think. We know very well it’s all domino of lies that crack easily with simple reality unfolding on the ground in Ethiopia.
amabasdaor yoma GIMATO. good job.
soul,
Who is the author of the book, confessions of an economic hit man?
Donald yammamoto, how many millions did you get in your hand for evile and fake witness? if weyane’s economy is growing, why do 6m children are straving? shameon you all usa’s staffs in ethiopia. you will leave ethiopia as soon as obama will become the future usa’s president.
What do you expect from the Bush Administration which like all previous administrations is in support of dictators in all regions of the globe-Meles,Musharaf,Mubarak,Ali abdella Sallah…The only dictator they don’t support is Robert Mugabe who spins anti-colonial announcements and pronouncements most of the time.Yet,for me Mugabe is the worst dictator.Have you heared that Mugabe was lamenting the same old tunes yesterday at the world leaders meeting at Rome?
In a nut shell,I strongly support the campain against radical Muslims, while condemning USA’s support to brutal dictators. It is an irony to proclaim democracy while supporting anti-democracy thugs!
