Dallas, Texas – The North America chapter of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy Party (Kinijit) has formed a Kinijit Youth League on Thursday at a conference in Dallas.

According to Kinijit North America (KNA) officials, the Youth League was formed by representatives from several states who gathered in Dallas and drafted the organization’s objectives and bylaws.

At the end of the founding conference, a 3-member provisional executive team was formed. The main objective of the executive team is to organize Kinijit Youth League chapters through out the world, particularly in college and university campuses.

Tesfaye Mamo from Washington DC was elected to chair the executive team. Mikael Deribe from Boston and Tsega Besha from Washington DC were elected to service as vice-chairman and secretary.

The Kinijit Youth League was inaugurated by Ato Berhane Mewa, Secretary General of Kinijit International Leadership, Professor Alemayehu Gebre-Mariam and artist Tamagn Beyene.

Ato Berhane said that the party’s jailed leaders in Qaliti will be happy to hear about the formation of the Youth League.

The creation of the Youth League is a major development for the party and Ethiopian politics. It could play a major role in mobilizing resources, as well as serving as a recruiting ground for future Kinijit leaders.

Young members of Kinijit who fled to Kampala, Uganda, sent a message to the conference expressing their wish to be part of the Youth League.

The young leadership of Kinijit North America led by Ato Aklog Lemeneh has been quietly working to expand the party’s structure abroad. Recently, it helped create Women’s League. The Youth League is the latest effort of the KNA to widen Kinijit’s constituent base and make the party a genuine grassroots popular movement.

  1. It is not easy for some people to recognize a KNA Chairman appointed/”elected” by the divided group while there has been a contiuous chairmanship of KNA1 under Shaleka Yoseph. Ato Aklog’s “voice” showed up on the internet today in a message under “STAND FOR DEMOCRACY”/ON KNA2 web site, after several months of silence or any official written print post known to some observers. The awkward irony is the Boston Kinijit chapter in October 2006 took it upon itself to eliminate Shaleka Yoseph, and elected one of its own to take his place as KNA chairman. What ever Ato Aklog’s skill and competancy, it does not quite fall in place to find his title re emerge after several months of absence.

Ato Berhane Mewa, Ato Andargachew Tsege and now from this post, Ato Aklog Lemneh have shown moving for ward and specially the recent progress and acomplishments of B.Mewa and A.Tsege is receiving good media coverage. Some how, their progress and contribution falls short of its due credit because of the unresolved division between KIC and these members of KIL and KNA2. There have been optimistic presence (Ato Yared Tebebu/Nuzaze Zeyared),invitation to work together(from KIC) open letter from BM to the PM (which could clear doubt about rumors) and the popular welcome of Dr.Taye Wolde Semaiat, and some other pluses seem encouraging, that after a meeting of all the 23 people, some workable process could emerge.

  2. I, personaly appreciate the formation of Kinijit youth league.I am supposing all the Ethiopians throughout the world to stand with these young league by sharing knowledges, ideas financial and material support until our lovely homeland and our country being free from the Meles dictetorship .I realy had a wish to see stablished and part of asuch league after the KINIJIT leaders being jaild.
    Nice to here this news.

  3. Its a great news that we the youngester waited for long time to litsen.instead of litsening this dictator shalqu Yosep squad we as a whole can do a lot better to bring kinijit back to the same track what it was before. Good luck Tesfaye Mamo and i know you are a very brave man i know you when i was attend some meeting and protest the weyane regim you always up front to do anything. May God bless your work we will stand by you. Take care.

  4. Thank you for the people who worked hard to create the league. I understand this will be a plus news for the Ethiopian peoples’ long and harsh struggle against TPLF and its narrow tribalist leader Meles Zenawi.
Down with TPLF and its thoughtless muscle head leader Meles Zenawi the Dedebit bandit Tigrean thug.

  5. I am happy to read this news.Thank you Er .I appreciate kinjit international keep it up the people are with you.In addition to this ER don’t afriad to those hayenas.Time will come they are nonsense.

  6. Nice job thumbs up that is exactly what we need for Ethiopian Poloticis grass root movement and participation. this will be nightmare for Woyanes,Shalekas and the likes, Great job Ato Aklog and his team.

    Bertu.

  7. THere is nothing to hear a great news more than this, wonderful. Keep it up pls. on the other way round this is a critical time for us esp. our jailed leaders, so those who are fighting each other under KIL try to reconcile your differences & join the struggle, am begging u in z name of the almighty God please, please please.
    Thanks

  8. The youth Kinijit wing would be sharp, bold, smart, strong, quick and the generation of the time to expose and reject those the sick and hopeless always looking to divide and destroy the struggle. The quality of members and their struggle has more value than the quantity of members that are seams to gather for negative outcome.
I hope the youth Kinijit would be different than those KIL that are sounding belongs to the generation of evils and dogs. They know how to disagree while have not clue to agree about the country matters. Most of them are sick because of few insects and snakes are among them to spread their venom in order to damage the people struggle.

  9. This is really a good news at least for some/many of us. I’m living in LA and am college student. I just want to join and do my parts. Again good to here this.

  10. Good job organizers of youth league. Kinijit is not no more “IDIR” , “SENBETE”, “Ikub or “Shumet”.Youth league is good foundation to recute the future leaders and members of Kinijit party. You make sure to have mebers from different religouns and itnic back grounds.

    Good luck

  11. It is really a fantastic move to achieve the democratic struggle of our leaders in hostage in Qaliti. Believe me this would further strengthen our party(I am not an official member but the sprit of love and freedom sown by CUDP has been always in me). My comment is therefore that the formation of the Youth League should also be inclusive and extend its sphere of influence to mother land Ethiopia where the youth would have no choice but CUD.

    Please work for that also.

  12. Dear Ethiopians, CONGRATULATIONS. Well done. We are coming to the right track by participating the decisive force of the generation; i.e. the youth. The Woyane’s are lacking this precious idea. Recruiting the youth and enabling it to feel responsibilities about the country is the beginning; it will be followed with the prompt action once the youth knows what to do, how to do and when to do it. The KIL’s responsibility in this aspect of the League is to create a conducive atmosphere so that the youth practice its energy and interest. Above all teach the youth the Genuine Love of our Country.

    God Bless Ethiopia.

  13. I am delighted so much with these news. As to the past ups an downs of the political scinario in Kinijit, let us all learn lessons that can be priniciples to get hold on the momentum that apparently exist but overshadowed by sniffy hypocrites. This initiative to scale up not only among the diaspora be elite or nor but also the young generations living in the mother land Ethiopia. We all know thw road is tough and rough but as they say “no gain without pain”. To save our country as united, let us all share the pain.

To support your motives, I suggest you come up with a common memorandum of onesss for Ethiopianism among the league before the devils try to stir your blessed cups up.

God be with all of us who stand for one united Ethiopia.

  14. thanx all ,it is very encouraging news in the troubled poletical atmosphere.i wish the elected leadres of the youth league courage, dedication and great love of your country ETHIOPIA .

  15. when will we hear the support of this “Youth wing” to Mewa’s and Tsege’s Gang Team. It is surprising to see all these tactics of escrocery while the best way was to strengtening “Kinegijt” in a way that it can unbar our leaders, at least in the very short-run.

“Bravo” Mewa for your cheap brevity advance. I hope the Youth, who have been systematically excluded from Ethiopian Politics despite its huge steak, will and shall not be misguided or misdirected by these self-proclaimed organizers or commanders

  16. I am very happy for the formation of kinijit youth league. This event is a hope for Ethiopian youth. It should be prepared the way to participate Ethiopian private and government college students. I would like to express my pleasure in amharic “Kinijit tesfa new tesfa degmo hiwot new”. Let’s stand for unity and democracy.
