ADDIS ABABA (AFP) — The Ethiopian capital faces a lengthy power outage until next month because of reduced water levels in the country’s hydro- electric plants, a state-owned generator said Monday.
Addis Ababa, a city of 5 million, will have no power for up to three days a week, the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation said in a statement.
“Power rationing will continue until June. Climate change, which is inflicting a great damage worldwide, is the main cause of the poor performance of seasonal rains in Ethiopia,” state media quoted Water Minister Asfaw Dingamo as saying.

Woyanne will say anthing to deceive the Ethiopian people. They are busy stealing our resource. The don’t care about us.
The question is not what we don’t have/whether there is draught or not/whether we are rich or not/etc…but how capable we are to adjust to the problems that have been around us for a long time. State owned corporations everywhere tend to be less competent than privately owned/profit motivated ones, and they are even more horribly and inexplicably incompetent in Ethiopia. And this, we all know, is not just due to lack of trained man power because we are not even using properly those we have already trained. Most of the problem comes down to lack of effort on the part of the government to approach the troubles of our country in a comprehensive way that genuinely intends to include everyone.
By the way, the power outage problem is not just in Addis, but in other parts of the country too. At least in Addis, they get to have power for about four days a week, right? In some parts of the country, power is being rationed ut most one day a week. And the phone networks, which also need power to run, are also down. No cell phones, no home phones, no electricty and no water. I was able to get in touch with my family for the first time in weeks yesterday when the phones were opened up for them “for thirty minutes”. And this is the 21st century.
This is just the start. They are killin’ us.
The problem is not the water shortage, but the problem is the poor ruling of woyane.Since the day they came into Addis for the last 17 years we are in gross darkness. Darkness of misgovernment and oppresion. The darkness of simple light is easy we can tolerate that but it is impossible to tolerate the misgoverning of woyane.
What is the solution to that country….a counrty always going down into a drain. We are at the bottom of all the countries in the world…what next? negative?
We Ethiopians should wake up and save our country….God help us
Woyane is trying all meanses to kill us. No way. They were given a chance to lead this beasutiful country; however they didn’t make it. Rather they took us from little light to compelete darkness. Therefore, it is time to unite and stand for change. It is time to bring our effort together to develope our country and change our image.
