Earlier this week, Djibouti appealed to the UN Security Council to intervene in order to prevent a conflict over the border village of Doumeira.
In a letter to the UN, Djibouti alleged Eritrea had published new maps showing Doumeira as Eritrean territory.
Grirma Asmerom, Eritrea’s ambassador to the European Union, told the BBC he knew nothing about the letter.
Since Eritrea gained independence in 1993, the country has been involved in two serious conflicts over territory with its neighbours.
‘Real threat’
BBC Somali Service editor Yusuf Garaad Omar says Djibouti’s interpretation of events is alarming.
He said Doumeira is a small border village of little strategic importance home to ethnic Afar people.
“The sudden growth of troops calls for real intervention by the international community because we see it as a real threat,” Djibouti’s ambassador to the UN Roble Olhaye told the BBC’s Network Africa programme.
“We wanted to urge the Security Council to take all necessary measures to prevent any kind of conflagration because the prospect of a real war is there.”
But Mr Asmerom said he was bemused by such accusations.
“There is no such problem with Djibouti; we have never had a problem with Djibouti,” he said.
In 1995, Eritrea clashed with Yemen over the Hanish islands in the Red Sea – one of the world’s major shipping lanes.
Three years later, Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a two-year war over the border town of Badme, in which tens of thousands of people died.
Djibouti and Eritrea clashed twice over their mutual border in the 1990s and nearly went to war.
Both US and France have military bases in Djibouti.

Djibouti is a Country that is practically owned by France and the West. This can only be a part of the smear campaign that has been directed against Eritrea, to punish it for its self reliant policy.
Djibouti is has been cooperating very actively with the Woyane regime by handing over thousands of Ethiopian refugees, opposition members and providing intelligence information about logistics of the Ethiopian opposition forces. Above all, the people and government of Djibouti have such disdain and disrespect to Ethiopians though it is our food and money that keeps their desert land alive.
Therefore, no Ethiopian will shed a drop of tear for this desert football-pitch sized land, if Ato Issias’s army drives through or shells howtzers or BM 20s to scare them off once a while.
Eritrea has not invaded Djibouti. Ras Dumera is in Eritrea. What Eritrea is doing is what Eritrea has been doing for the last 15 years. They are building a hotel and other infrastructure. For those people who may not know the area there is no hotel or even road to speak of in the desolate part of the area. So, the idea of building some rest area makes economic sense and is being built by Eritrea on Eritrean territory. So what is the fuss by the moron and Weyane stooge foreign minister of Djibouti? Even his French masters have stated that “Their reconnaissance flights indicated that some civilian project appear to be underway by Eritrea on their side of the border. By the way, the same foreign minister has accused Eritrea of invading his country when he was in a visit in Yemen back in 1996, only to be retracted by the then president of Djibouti as “Unfortunate misinformation”. Folks what is sad about the issue is not that Eritrea has invaded anything, but how we Africans have really become subservient to foreign interests by doing their dirty work. Isn’t it better that we be ourselves than some idiots controlled by our colonial masters? Just a thought!
The whole Ras Dumera region is part of Eritrea . During the Italian rule it was part of Eritrea, and The Dergue & The Emperor also ruled it as part of Eritrea. So what is the deal now? I think The French must know this fact ,but I’m wondering to know , why they (the french) do not show their stooges as to where the border of Djibouti starts and ends. If however Djbouti wants war at any cost , then the weyane must be the prime instigator , as a prelude to regionalizing the whole border issue.
You idiot,Ambassador-ask your masters to tell you where your territory ends and do not be a cry baby-Eri does not even care and is busy reconstructing her country and on Self reliance and not depending on colonial masters— SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no invasion or border dispute between Eritrea and Djibouti, what is happening is manufacturing of crisis because Woyanne can’t keep UNMEE on Eritrean territory and are scared to death, also they are trying to paint Eritrea as a “rouge nation”. So no wonder Woyanne’s masters have ordered their little stooge to blame Eritrea for temporary political gain. What the Djibouti stooge government doesn’t understand is that their accusation will put them in precarious position in the long run, Woyanne will be defeated soon, Somalia will be liberated and united, then they will be in real hot water. The French legion will not save them from the inevitable.
