U.S. Congressman from California, Mr Dana Rohrabacher, joins the Ethiopian people in demanding the immediate release of Teddy Afro. He sent the following short and to-the-point letter to dictator Meles Zenawi.
I got a chance to see Congressman Dana Rohrabacher one time in the united states congress On one hearing. He cares so much about Ethiopians and I can call him as ” A good friend of all Ethiopians”/
Like the congressman, we all have to come together and condemn all atrocieties by the current “woyanne” regime
Teddy we love you and stand with you until the end
It is nice that the congressman stands up for Tedy.We shall not foreget the 80mn Ethiopians suffering in the woyane jail or political system.
Ethiopians should fight and liberate theselves from slavery. Ethiopiand cannot live on begging for everthing from bread to freedom. Enough is enough. Fight and Fight.
Ethiopia Prevails.
No matter how dictator Meles is,the congressman’s command is an idiotic way of approaching the issue. Who is this damn ferenji to order an ethiopian leader? Mr. Ethiopian review by the very fact that you have accepted the command, you have as well sold Ethiopia to the USA for your political ambitions. Damn to damn, indeed! Dirty!
I hope you will alow it to be read!

Meles and his chigaram Woyannes are also State Department’s puppets. Without the U.S. support they would not last one week in power. – Elias
here we go again. Do any of you with a right mind think P.M Meles will have time to bother by this?
The congersman didn’t say a word about Sean Bell, a young black man who got shot 50 times by a NYC police officers and got killed on his wedding day.
Now lets keep it real, how come he is trying to get Teddy Afro (One of the greatest Ethiopian singer and a poet) free? Its sad that in a dark and sad day, Teddy Afro hit and killed another Ethiopian, so now he have to follow the low and get a fair trial. Its not only Teddy Afro thats in jail for this kind of crime. If you all are saying that he has to get special treatment because he is a celebrity then you be judge.
Foxy Brown (a hip hop) artist just came out of jail after serving 1 year in jail for allegedly hitting someone in a beauty salon.
Lil Kim (another hip hop star) went to jail for a year in 2006 for not snitching(telling on someone) about a shotting that happen that involves her.
Mr Blake one of the greatest hollywood actor was sentenced for 25 years for killing his wife, Laurel Clark.
Well now in our case, Teddy afro is awaiting for his sentecing day for a hit and run.
And Congressaman the only 2 words I have for him is “SEAN BELL”.
The law maker is talking to Meles in such abrupt and directing way. I don’t think that is going to fly with anyone in power back home. We should remember that Meles and his cohorts are former fighters who spent almost two decades in the bush usually dealing very extreme hardships and conditions. They can be stubborn and also pragmatic. Whether we like it or not they possess pride as unshakable as a concrete block. This kind of seemingly unprofessional letter will only reinforce such pride in them and escalate their bare minimum willingness into destructive stubbornness. Who is going to pay for this dearly? Poor Ted. This kind of conversation with people who strongly feel they are doing the right thing, will not further the accord. Very sad indeed. I think his fans should get together and set up a committee of elders and send them to Addis and start negotiating with the court and the victim’s family as soon as possible. I believe that will work. The whole issue must then be left to the committee. Then you should use your valuable time and energy dealing with other more pressing matters concerning the whole country. .
Thanks congressman mr Dana. We believe that USA has still some good people. Tedy afro is an innocent artist who is free from any crime. The crime is being committed by TPLF’s criminals to target the symbole of ethiopia’s new generation unity. free tedy. tedy free
I love Teddy, I respect also the rule of LAW. So, if he has committed a crime, then there is no “special” justice system reserved for celebrities…there should be ONE justice. I would love to see Teddy free by the law, NOT by the senetor’s disrespecting letter…That is NONSENSE! for every proud Ethiopian!!! I understand and know that his nonsense letter will get the answer it desrves…NO ANSWER…NO ONE will give a shit fot it!!!
I hope the government of ethiopia will make the trial an open to public and media. That way those who are trying to politisize the situation will get a lesson. And To comment on the congress man. he must be one stupid politician to write that kind of bold letter to the PRIME MINISTER OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF ETHIOPIA. i don’t think the prime minster will waste any time to respond to that but if he did I guess it is a commen sense what the answer should be.
Thank you, Mr. Dana Rohrabacher, Congressman, for the strong and powerful word you sent to the strong Dictator Meles Seitanawi at the right time when Ethiopia is in great need of help from you to bring one of its children, Teddy Afro, to freedom.
When a Congress person like you talks unequivocally, Meles Seitanawi trembles and his corrupt regime loses its power on the innocent people of Ethiopia; he may ignore all the comments we Ethiopians abroad and at home have been sending him every day so that he could follow the rule of law and run a clean election, but he will never overlook those four words by the Congressman: “Free Teddy Afro immediately.” The Congressman didn’t say “please free Teddy Afro at your convenient time; he simply said: “Free Teddy Afro immediately.” Here, the Congressman is telling Meles that the case of Teddy Afro is urgent, and he should be free as soon as Meles gets this powerful letter, or else Teddy’s case will get the attentions of the United States full House and Senate. By chance if Teddy’s case goes to the full House of the United States, it goes with the other cases that involve the deaths of those innocent Ethiopians in 2005 and the severe persecutions of the Oromo, the Amhara, and the people of Ogaden. This will be terrible for Meles Seitanawi to ignore the Teddy’s case. Meles may say he has never ever received the Congressman’s urgent letter, but he has heard the voices of the 35,000 sport spectators at the Addis’ stadium, chanting ‘Free Teddy! Free Teddy!’ Meles may ignore the voices of the multitude, but he should never ignore the word of the Congressman from the 46th District, California. He better listen to the Congressman’s God-sent letter and understand the seriousness of those two words “Free…immediately.”
His blind political advisors may tell him to give no attention to the Congress person’s letter, or may ask him to respond by saying that Teddy Afro’s case is an internal matter that should be resolved in the Ethiopian court by the Ethiopian judges, and that the Congressman should not interfere with the Ethiopian internal affairs. When justice is badly mishandled by Dictator Meles, it is the duty of all justice lovers such as Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and others. The Congressman is ordering Dictator Meles to immediately free Mr. Teddy Afro from Kaliti jail, and I’m sure when Meles reads the Congressman’s letter, he will be humiliated by the word “immediately,” but there is nothing he could do except to swallow it and do what the letter tells him to do: Free Teddy Afro immediately.
On the other hand, if he rejects the Congressman’s letter, he will have no friends in the United States as well as in his own country; his political advisors should not mislead him by not answering the Congressman’s letter quickly and by releasing Teddy Afro immediately from the jail. If he does that, then he may have some friends in America and at home for doing the right thing even though it is too late.
The Congressman’s letter in its seriousness resembles King David’s letter carried out by Uriah and handed to Joab to put Uriah in the frontline of the battle and to let him die there. Though the story of the two letters is different, the urgency of the two is the same.
As cunning, deceitful, and sinister as he is, Meles’ answer would be “we don’t have an imprisoned person by the name of Teddy Afro,” because Teddy’s real name is Tewodros kassahun.
Congressman is on the right track of setting these weyane junta straight. I think we should push harder besides the petition and sorts.
I am a peacefull person but we have to remove weyane by force..the only way they understand!
the only reason Woyanes are in power is because of American support. They have even lost the support of the majority of Tigrians. so when an American official speaks meles better listen, otherwise, him and the other bandits posing as a government in Addis Abeba will have no refuge, when they are ousted by the heroic sons and daughters of Ethiopia (including Tigrians)
only democraticaly elected leaders deserve respect,Dana didnt see the reason why he shouid beg one tribal gang learder. he has summerised evrything in his one golden sentence!
only democraticaly elected leaders deserve respect,Dana didnt see the reason why he shouid beg one tribal gang learder. he has summerised evrything in his one golden sentence!
I first would like to thank you for posting my piece of thought. I agree Meles is not an Ethiopian in heart. He is a man who lives and rules for himself. He does not deserve to be leading Ethiopia for he lacks the core qualifications.
However, we cannot deny the fact that he is a ruler of Ethiopia. Do we like him? No! How can we like one who is auctioning our border lands and is exposing our people in the borders to be killed and beaten by foreigners/enemies? It appears that Meles does anything to keep himself in power. But the fact remains the same. He is an Ethiopian leader by the barrel of a gun.
My objection is we should not fight evil with evil, a sale with a sale. He has sold us and you are selling us as well. If you happen to rule Ethiopia tomorrow, I would not want you to be pushed by any foreign power. It takes away my pride as an independent man of an independent country. Elias, fight evil not with evil but with good. IF our people see two evil alternatives, they may well say, better the evil that we know than the evil that we do not know.
Please correct your approach for the sake our people.
As to the wholesale condemning of Woyane, it would not be fair, you have brothers and sisters there who love Ethiopia with passion like you do. Win them to your side of understanding instead of condemning them all at once. Have you ever belonged to any political party? I am sure you do. If the Woyanes would condemn you and your party? Imagine every political group condemning the other; they will all be gone in a snap of a finger. Ethiopia will be destitute of leaders over night. A job well-done, Ato Kifle, you have fulfilled the dreams of Meles-destruction of Ethiopia.
You are alaigning your sleves with terorists and Isayas of Eritrea to get rid of Meles! I asure youi it will not work. Taking the wrong path for the right cause.
Thanks again!
These days, the likes of Congressman Dana and a few other unsuspecting members of the U.S congress have increasingly become easy prey of the mis-guided Diaspora Ethiopians whose only philosophy sees the Amharic saying, ” እኔ ከሞትኩ ሰርዶ አይብቀል።”
The congressman’s unprofessional letter makes a mockery out of his position in the U.S Congress. Judging from the content (if any) of the so-called letter, one can deduce that the congressman hastily wrote the letter just to appease whoever was begging him to write such a clumsy letter–devoid of common official letter writing etiquette.
The congressman probably is one of the few congressmen who don’t even know where Ethiopia is on the world map and has no an iota of true understanding of who its leaders are. However, their seemingly ignorant approach is not limited to Ethiopia–a country whose contribution is so crucial for the U.S led fight of international terrorism, though Ethiopia is doing it solely for the safety of its own people.
I don’t see this letter will make any dent in the thick legal dossier of the spoiled singer, Teddy Afro. His case is already in court, and in today’s Ethiopia no one is above the law–even a super-duper pop singer.
I am not sure if I am missing some thing. What is our opposition to the arrest of T.Afro? is there a belief that he is arrested unjustly or did not commit the alleged crime?
