There are 11 vans rented and ready to go, with the option of getting more vans for this weekend’s trip to North Carolina. Ethiopians for Obama have been working hard to ensure Senator Obama’s nomination and ultimate victory in November. North Carolina presents us with another opportunity to contribute to change and take part in our great democracy.
This is a call to all Ethiopians in the DC metro area to join E4O in making a difference in North Carolina. We will be leaving Friday (May 2nd) at 7:00 PM and returning Sunday evening. The transportation has been taken care of, housing will be provided–names have to be submitted by the close of business today so that we can ensure space in the vans for all those who can make it.
Please join Ethiopians for Barack Obama on our caravan for change this weekend. You will get a chance to meet your fellow Ethiopian-Americans who have made unbelievable contributions in this primary season. There are a lot of Ethiopians in North Carolina, and they will be elated to see their fellow Ethiopian-Americans taking part in such a noble effort.
Forward this to all your friends and family, anyone who wants to make the trip to North Carolina this weekend, please email [email protected] and put “Yechalal NC” in the subject header along with a phone number you can be reached at in the email. I will see everyone who can make it on Friday.

Good job!
Do you really think supporting Obama will get us the kind of attension Ethiopians want from the US?
Meti, you know it is your kind of thinking that has Ethiopia in the state it is now. Instead of offering ideas in ways to organize our community, you sit on the sidelines and criticize every idea that these wonderful people are coming up with. Continue to drink your buna and talk about what we can’t do while we prove to you what we can do.
Thank you for your idea, in other words thank you for nothing.

Yes, Backing Obama does help out cause a great deal, especially when it comes to the passage of HR2003, provided he is elected of course. Besides what is the alternative? We know that Meles and Clinton are like Siamese Twins, joined at the belly button by their lobbyists at DLA Piper. I know McCain is a decent man but sort of foggy about the outside world.
GO OBAMA!
Meti, we will try anything to take Wayane down and bring democracy in Ethiopia. Do you have a better suggetion?
“sam says: Meti, we will try anything to take Wayane down and bring democracy in Ethiopia. Do you have a better suggetion?”
Really Sam?
In that case, I suggest a quick phone call to the almighty God himself. Because the only way you can “take Wayane down and” maybe “bring democracy in Ethiopia” is ONLY if you make a deal with the devil himself. From what I see, they have unleashed the gates of hell on us and nothing short of the second coming will banish these people from ourland land.
Tenesu,
Please understand the question paused by Metti. I also wonder what Obama can do any better than Clinton or McCaine. Have heard any one of them remotely addressing anything related to Ethiopia (human rights violation, invading Somalia……).
Convince me that Obama is a better candidate that will address our agenda.
for me obama will not change the situation in ethiopia, if u all want to give service pls don’t play in the name of Ethiopia. we had enough experience in the past.
We are not turning back.
Yes We Can !!!
Obama is for the Rule of Law and not for special interest like Clinton or Mccain.
Obama support democracy in Ethiopia and noting wrong if we support him.
No doubt that Obama will be the President of USA.
Tenesu,
instead of criticizing my question, you could have put your answer in more positive way like surafel. any way, my kind of people did not put Ethiopia in the state it is now, it is poeple like Woyane, and some other who prefer talk instead of action. i said what i said because the US is known to back a country if only it benefits them. if you do not believe this just ask your self, which US media gave a minute of their air time to talk about 193 innocent people that were gunned down? why do you think the us senate is reluctant to pass HR2003? it is not because they do not believe crime is being committed by woyanes, it is because Woyanes are fighting their fight in Somalia. if you do not believe these things go back check the facts. America should rather give more time more time to a cat that missing than African problems. i am not saying do not support Obama, if you thing he is a guy that can bering a change to our issue, then i am behind you but just know that he will always put US interest first. My Question to you and to all other Ethiopians is, why do we have to depend on America to resolve our problem? teach me i am willing to take constructive criticism.
Just you know i do not like BUNA…kkkkkkk and I LOVE ETHIOPIA
Good day
Meti;
Mind your spellings
Wey sira matat..

Yes we can!!!
Obama will be the next Presidant!!!!
God Bless America!!!
God Bless Ethiopia!!!
Meti ans Weluwa
If your question was really an inquiry about Obama’s position and not a back handed way of criticizing your fellow Ethiopians as they try hard to organize, then accept my apology for my previous response.
Now I will answer your question as well as Weluwa’s question. There are 195 countries in the world, not including Antarctica. Do you think Obama should come out and point by point explain what he will do for all 195 countries in the world. I think the answer to the question is that Obama will change the tone of a foreign policy that has been grounded in a “with us or against us” perspective and will be more open to one that respects and listens to the voice of countries throughout the world–including Ethiopia. I believe that he will advocate strongly for Democracy and human rights; he was the only Senator that visited Dire Dawa during the savaging floods a couple of years back. I cannot claim to have an insight to the campaign, but I do know that Obama is the one man who preaches about the power of unity, and what we lack more than anything in all African countries is UNITY.
So let me turn the question around. If we unite, we can do for ourselves more than anyone can do for us. What we lack is not the talent, it is the will to unite. So this moment gives us a chance to unite, if we get politically active, if we organize, then we have the power to change the world. But if we sit back and wait for someone to tell us what they are going to do for us, we will be in the same position 4 years from now, 8 years from now, 100 years from now. So the challenge is not for a candidate to tell us what he will do for us, but for us to tell him what it is that we want to do for ourselves. When we have figured out what the answer to that question is, based on common interests that we all have, then we can move forward to asking of someone else what they will do for us. Until then, we are just wasting our breath, we would be better off with Buna.

OBAMA 08
Tenesu,
First, i am not saying Obama should address or make promises to the 195 countries. what i am saying is whoever become a president, they are not going to do anything new to Ethiopia or other African countries ingeneral. just look back what happened over the years, they ignored the genocide in Ruwanda, they are not doing enough for Darfur, and they are ignoring human right violation in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. For me, it is Obama who can bring change to our country’s situation, it the unity of our people and our willingness to stand up and say no to the dectators. change will come to Ethiopia, when we stop accepting whatever woyanes throw at us. look what they are doing, they are selling our land to neighboring country, they allowing the killing of our innocent people, they are raising the living cost to the roof. these are problems that we can fix by intesfying the struggle within our country. Please do not ask what a US candidate can do for your country but ask what we as united Ethiopians can do for our country. God Bless Ethiopia!!!
hey,try tea you might like it.

Don’t forget that some of us are Hillary’s supporters. Whoever wins the race for white house, we should plead to stand with the Ethiopian people. If HR2003 makes it to Senate floor all three of the candidates will have a chance to vote for Ethiopia.
AA, I guess there is not that much of a support for Hillary in the Ethiopian community, otherwise, there would have been stories written about her and how the Ethiopian community is volunteering for her and supporting her. Why don’t you put together a volunteer effort for Hillary and see how many Ethiopians come out to support. Until then, this post is for Obama supporters ;)
Anonymous,
I am a Hillary supporter too!!!
Looks like there are a couple of Hillary supporters here, well there is an Obama victory party in DC on Tuesday, you are more than welcome to come to Duke City and celebrate Obama’s victory with your fellow Ethiopians :)
