(ASSOCIATED PRESS) – Egyptian police have arrested 109 African migrants hoping to cross illegally into Israel from Egypt, an Egyptian security official said Wednesday.
95 migrants from Eritrea and 14 from Ethiopia were caught Wednesday in the city of Aswan, 685 kilometers (425 miles) south of Cairo, after crossing the border from Sudan on foot, said the official. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
During questioning, the arrested said they wanted to go to Israel for jobs and a better life. Before sneaking into Aswan, they said they had lived briefly in refugee camps in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
Other migrants have said they pay about US$500 to human traffickers for shelter in the Egyptian desert and a ride to the Israeli border.

I don’t feel sorry for any of those people who are being arrested in any 3rd world country or any where. Where there is no justice…….why and why people are going there such stupid things while they are hearing bad story in their brothers and sister most are being killed past????
It just not worth it! better to stay in Ethiopia believe me it won’t be as bad as going to any Aribc/3rd world country and cut off their hand…….NOT WORTH IT.
MMP, It seems to me it’s better to die trying.
MMP, do you think that all communication and information methods are available to those people back home?. I feel you are acusing inocent people who are not able to have proper life in their home land. Hopfuly we will arest Egyptians as they put us under arrest for centuries.
long live to Ethiopia
MMPI ante waynne for you is good to be home with Melese ok He get you yelemate gegna shelemat for you ok
Observer, I agree with you, however why not trying, else where? which a country that has at least a better human rights record? and who are well comes and understand of the condition and the danger the people facing.
Other ways I don’t support and even myself If i am in their position I would never dare to go there and take the chance a country like Egypt and or else where who had bad record of abusing and killing Immigrants. Let say for example there are a country who well come immigrants then you cross the desert day and night and you made it there, then of course you can say “its better to die trying” which of course for good purpose. However in this case even after you made it through the desert day and night when you get there you will get arrested and of course eventually being killed since they don’t well come immigrants!
MMPI,
It’s easy for you to comment since you are not affected in any way. If the arrested people should have stayed in Ethiopia as you suggested, what kind of life you think they going to have? By the way would you have sent them money to better educate themselves or money for food? Do you even support your own brothers, sisters, cousins and relatives?
It’s people like you and me that are living our lives here and make smart comment instead of helping and supporting our brothers and sisters.
The least you can do now is try to figure out how to get them out of the prison that you are eluding to the fact that is not fair……..
Waluma and yezachew:
Let me tell you one thing If I have to be honest. My comments has nothing to do with any political views. Rather its the reality we are seeing now days. The reason you guys said that was its because you guys don’t have any friends or family memebers lost their only son or daughter and or arristed where god know it over the years. I have a friend who has just lost 2 of his brothers, as they trying to reach from Libya to Europe. They ask him the money and he send them the money even though he told them its too danger but they never listen to him its because they heard many even thier own friends has made it to Europe so he send them the money and unfortunaly they were not one of the luckies to made it there.
Waluma: as for supporing my family of course I do support my family the only thing one cannot support its family is that THE PERSON WHO IS LOST. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
yezachew: WHY IS every time everyting has to be with
All I have to say is everyone of us need to let our friends and family know that they have to becarful about the danger of this Journey. At the same time the Ethiopian Media need to inform its Citizens, about the danger of this journey
There are other ways and safe ways to do this but first..one has to give a value for its life first, after all we all got ONLY one life! and there is no second chance!
We do care for our brothers and sisters who have been chaised out of their beloved country by the brutal regime. what they did not know is that they can never be safe and well in Egypt because this regime is not only similar to the Meles Naziawi regime, it is also a prtner with the crimefamily’s regime.
Let’s do what we can do to help Ethiopians to the betterment of their future wher they destiny takes them to.
