Ethiopian-Americans campaign for Obama in Philadelphia

By Teddy Fikre

(ethiopiansforbarackobama.com) — Ethiopians for Barack Obama concluded our trip to Philadelphia to support the Barack Obama campaign. Eight of our fellow Ethiopian-Americans took it upon ourselves to be a part of the change and drove from Washington, DC to Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia, we made phone calls to residents of the great state of Pennsylvania to encourage them to vote for Barack Obama as well as calling our fellow Ethiopian-Americans to remind them to vote on April 22nd.

On Sunday, we drove to Kidus Ammanual church in Philadelphia and took part in the Hosea mass. Afterwords, we set up a table across the street from the church and encouraged more of our fellow Ethiopian-Americans to vote for Barack Obama and raised a significant amount of campaign contributions. Due to the hard work and dedication of our fellow Ethiopian-Americans, we have raised over $1,200 thus far for the Barack Obama campaign. The enthusiasm for Senator Obama’s campaign within our community is awe-inspiring. We met Ethiopian-Americans in restaurants, markets, and on the street who could not contain their enthusiasm for Senator Obama. It is truly inspiring to see the amount of energy and willingness to get involved in our political process.

  1. It amazes me how some of us have matured in being politically savvy and are willing to jump on the band wagon in anticipation of receiving some bread crumbs down the line. Believe you will not be noticed for driving to Philly all the way from DC to support one candidate or another. I am not against any of the candidates but I will never involve myself in a task of bootlicking so I amy get something in return if that candidate is elected to the office. Stay home and vote your concience you lazy bumms!!!

  2. I was born in Ethiopia and have been living in Germany for over 20 years now. I am very attracted by your ideas you are spreading during your campaign, and I would like to send you my very best regards and best wishes. I watch your candidature for president of the U.S. every day and if I were an American citizen I would indeed not hesitate to very highly and strongly support you.

Your history is comparable to my daughter’s, who has me as her African father and a white mother born in Germany. Like you, we hope that the world will change to the better where all people can live peacefully.

This is just to let you know that Germans and Ethiopians love you and the U.S.A.

    Best regards,
    WT

  3. I’m not an American but this is one of the most gifted politicians I’ve seen. He speaks from his heart and is uncorrupted. Hillary on the other hand is way to hungry for power. I hope Barack is the next president of the united states. The world needs this man! BARACK OBAMA 4 PRESIDENT!!!!

You amaze me by your ignorant idiotic mind. people like you are what make the world possible for dictators and killers like Melles Zenawi and George W Bush. The only BUM is you. We participated in trying to bring change in a country that has welcomed us and given us rights. We are the product of this wonderful country that we love. So yes we did jump on a band wagon that talks about bringing change to all of the people in this country. We chose to participate intead of watching it on television or like you mouthing of nonsense. we did something that you as ignorant fool would not even understand the meaning of working hard for something you believe in. You call yourself an Ethiopian, you are a disgraceful human being. To think that you are an ethiopian with so little insight makes me sick.

  5. Response to #3:

People such as you are the types that bring this country and Ethiopia down. Your comments is the most ignorant, stupid, uneducated, and idiotic. I get ashamed when Ethiopians such as you make stupid comment and call themselves Ethiopian. We are proud to campaign, vote, and contribute to this country as this country has done something for us and our family. You are welcome to leave this country if you are not willing to participate…..stupid ass, idiot.
