Woyanne throws Teddy Afro in jail

Addis Fortune reports that singer Teddy Afro was sent to Kaliti jail today. There is no doubt that the whole thing has been orchestrated by Woyanne to silence Teddy. Read the full report below:

(Addis Fortune) – Ethiopia’s sensational stage performer, Tewodros Kassahun – popularly known as Teddy-Afro – is sent today, April 16, 2008, to the Addis Abeba Central Prison Centre after the Federal High Court eighth criminal bench, adjourned to rule over his appeal for right of bail on charges of murder.


He was under custody inside the Federal High Court, Lideta area, for couple of hours before a white minibus from the Prison Administration took him to Kaliti early this afternoon, together with other inmates. Fans, family members and his agent, Addis Gessese, have gathered inside the court before the minibus drove out.

Yet to be confirmed, he is believed to have been taken to Kaliti Prison Centre, located in the outskirts of the city. Dressed with red T-shirt and black pant, he appeared nervous and seemed unable to focus when talking to reporters gathered inside the Court, but maintained his innocence of the crime he is alleged to have committed.

“I’ve yet to compose my thoughts,” Tewodros told reporters who showered him with series of questions. “Nevertheless, I haven’t hit anyone with a car.”

On November 3, 2006, investigators from the Addis Abeba Police Commission arrested Tewodros Kassahun, suspecting him of leaving a scene of a car accident that they alleged has caused the death of an 18-year old Degu Yibelte. Degu, a street dweller who came from Gojjam to reside with his uncle before he moved out to the streets, was killed on the night of November 2, 2006, after he was hit by a car. Police was tipped on phone a plate number of a BMW by a taxi driver whose identity they were trying to establish at the time.

Later that night, around after midnight, a BMW owned and driven by the singer was found collided with a concrete that blocked road under-construction around Gurd Sholla area, on the road to the CMC residential complex. Police claimed at the time, the plate number of this vehicle was identical to the number they were tipped of by the unidentified taxi driver as involved in the accident that killed Degu.

After he was put under custody for a day, Tewodros was released on a 50,000 Birr bail the following day, on November 4, 2006.

Prosecutors have now pressed charges against the popular singer: According to the Ethiopian Penal Code, a driver who hit a person to death and drives 15 metre away from the scene of an accident would be charged of homicide. The court is adjourned for Monday, April 21, to decide whether or not Tewodros be granted release on bail.

  2. you know what you guys, i love Teddy as much as anyone who love his music, but if he really did this, why not serve for what he have done. don’t forget if it is true,the person who got hit is our guy/girl too. think about the family and other things. you just pray that all things end up good. Becasue Teddy is a great singer doesn’t mean he can get away with things AS LOOG US THE PEOPLE WHO ARE AFESTING HIM not doing the right thing.

  7. Let’s not just talk,let’s act.We ca contribute money then we can hire the best forensic investigator from the US.
    The time of the incidence is still short enough to retrive some DNA traces of the victim from that BMW.Then the forensics have to dig Degu’s grave to get DNA for comparison.Only this way Tedy can walk free again.Oherwise everything will be circumstantial evidence:which artist doesn’t drink and drive?which drank will hit and stop?

I called Ethiopia and asked if they know anything about Teddy.It’s true he hit the guy but Teddy was drunk couldn’t remember anything.He is in jail the guy died.We’ll see what’s going to happen.He should pay the price for what he had done.Hopefully we’ll find out the truth soon.Some of you don’t know what you are talking.Teddy is a well known singer,favorite of Ethiopians.If the government want to take advantage of the situation then I know Ethiopians would stand by him.I am terribly sorry to hear what happened to Teddy.I wish him the best.

I don’t understand why Teddy was allowed to be billed out and walk around as a free man when he got drunk and hited poor young homeless man and killed him and didn’t even stop to help or call for help.This accident took place in 06 why TPLF waited this long?If Teddy killed that poor guy I think he should go to jail also pay s fine and the money should be given to Youth org.If Meles/TPLF is reading this please change the name from “Kaliti Prison Centre” to Ethiopian Prison Centre or Addis Prison Centre” or whatever name you want as long as its amhric or Tigrea name.I will be happy as long as you keep Kaliti or any other Oromo names from your jail crap.Kaliti is such a powerfull and wonderfull name that shouldn’t be used or associtated for such prison where TPLF officers use to abuse,kill,and rape people.

  14. I know he did it, I was at the same barbershop 5-10 minute before the accident happen and he was high like nobody. He even left the barbershop before his hair was done. We were making joke that he was the next David Chappell, maybe he need to leave Africa to be normal.

  15. What is sad news? You have to think about the poor guy…..
    Well, what intrigued me much is what most people think about the case. I love teddy and he is a great singer and a legend. But fame should never blind us to compromise truth and justice. If he really killed that poor guy, it is sad but he has to pay for that, as Teddy’s life is in no way greater than the street boy. If he is really innocent, as he claimed to be, then God help him. I wouldn’t argue there is justice in Ethiopia, but put yourself in the shoe of that poor guys family. Teddy is a human being, he could make a mistake, and no one is perfect. Hope truth prevails.
    May God put the boy’s life in heaven.

It seems like the goose came home to be roasted….After all the good things he did through his artistic talent, specially to keep the frigile Ethiopian unity under his beautifull and karsmatic musical skill. Is this what he deserve?   27. If we have a normal government, where law runs supreme, we can agree to let the law take its course. But there is no justice and no reliable legal procedure to take its course. TPLF agents are the law. There is no law they don’t break,including shooting and killing innocent people. Thus, people’s uproar on what ensues, regarding Teddy Afro, is well-founded and justified.

    A victim of homocide deserves justice. But justice in civilized world prefers to err on the side of the living, unless there is enough evidence that can be proven beyond reasonable doubt. Some taxi-driver’s witness is not substantial enough. Even worse, the prosecutor has not even located the “witness” yet. In short, there is no legal procedure that should take its course under illegal government that has proven itself for the last 17 years for breaking all kind of laws. This government has imprisoned, killed and tortured innocent people. There is a possibility that Teddy is another victim of loose-and cruel-minded TPLF agents false accusations and false witness.

Well, as you all have said it clearly if Teddy killed this innocent kid then he is no different but to face the justice.But, I am very doubtfull that Teddy will get a fair trial as the woyanneses have been waiting for this for a long time. Forget it once they throw him in jail nobody will remember him after a month.   44. If a drunk driving individual sits behind the wheel and drives recklessly and causes an accident, he is a criminal and guilty of murder. A poor Ethiopian was killed in the street of Addis Ababa to the greatest sadness of all Ethiopians both inside and outside the homeland.

    Many agreed that there has never been a bad and ungifted singer like there has never been as an arrogant with dull voice as Ephraim Tamru is.     Teddy Afro made a big mistake in trusting the crime regime of Meles Naziawi when he should take every possible precautions not fail himself and not fell into the hands and the prison of woyanae

    The first lesson for Teddy Afro must have been know your and Ethiopians’ enemy very well and pay due attention to what the enemy presents to you even before and after consuming alcohol, before and after darkness, before and after going out with women, and the last but not the leas, think twice and outside the box before venturing out into the territory of the robbers.

    For years, the crime families have been on a standby and were focusing their black and evil eyes on Teddy Afro chiefly because they claimed that he sang a bad song about them. In due course, they couldn’t do anything about the song and the singer mainly because the situation was not in their favor and waited patiently while actively taming the unsuspected Teddy Afro, first by letting him do the concert in Jimma then by giving him the impressed impression that he is well and safe for life.

    It was after the Jimma concert that Teddy Afro convinced himself that tplfwoyanaes are forgetting and forgiving. He was dead wrong, and now is in Kalitti Prison being charged violating the laws and regulations of the crime-ridden regime.

    Consumable things in moderation are okay. But not paying enough attention to the activities of the enemy is foolishness and a failure.

The only thing true about this article is that the car did block the road to CMC and was damaged. That’s it. Our so-called “government” is ingnorant and trifflin’!!
