U.S. to punish Ethiopia for refusing to accept deportees

(MyNews) — A Legislation that imposes sanctions against the countries, including India, who refuse to take back illegal migrants who have been convicted of crimes in the United States, has been introduced in the House of Representatives.

The bill, a companion to the Accountability in Immigrant Repatriation Act of 2008 introduced in March in the US Senate by Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, was introduced by Congressmen Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania and Michael Castle of Delaware.

“Shockingly, criminal aliens (illegal migrants) who have served time in US prisons are routinely released onto our streets after their home countries refuse to take them back,” Castle said.

“This represents a serious loop-hole in our immigration system and I believe our legislation, combined with efforts to expand border enforcement and target fraudulent identification documents, can improve security and the spending of taxpayer dollars,” he added.

As of February 11, 2008, eight countries – Laos, Iran, Eritrea, Vietnam, Jamaica, China, India, and Ethiopia – have refused to repatriate a total of over 1,39,000 illegal migrants. More than 18,000 of them were convicted criminals and were released back onto American streets.

“The AIR Act would suspend all pending visa petitions from those countries until they agree to repatriate our deportees. The legislation would also direct the State Department to withhold funds under the Foreign Assistance Act to countries that persist in this refusal,” Dent’s office said in a statement.

  1. At this time we do not know how many Ethiopians are there out of the 1, 39, 000 illegal migrants and what will be their fates if no country is going to accept them. It is strange why Meles refuses to accept these illegal migrant Ethiopians; perhaps they are from Oromos, Amharas, and Ogadens; otherwise, he would accept them. American response to Meles, not to give him money unless he accepts them, is swift and justified; with the money America used to send to Meles, Washington can use this money to help these illegal or criminal migrant Ethiopians here in the United States.

We are living in a bad time where a country hates its own people; when it says: “I don’t want them; do whatever you want against them.” This kind of response shows that almost every country is overflowed with a population growth, and no country will accept these illegal migrants. The solution for this problem right now is to let the United States allow these 1, 39, 000 illegal migrants to live in the United States; however, in the future, the law that allows people from other countries to come to live in this country must identify the criminals from the law-abiding migrants, and there must be an international law that deals with these type of people, that gives a place, training, and a final status to the migrants. You just can send them to the Oceans to perish there! The world must come up with something positive to help these illegal migrants who have no other place to go and live. We must remember that it is the selfishness of their government that put these people into the status of illegal migrants

  2. assta, they are from other ethnice groups. all the tegre’s criminals have already returned backto ethiopia and they are committing crime against our ppl and our nation. only some narrow minded ppl are living in usa with high responsibility like ben and benn-1

  3. Comments on Kumsaa saying “red indians”,

Red indians were not red they were called ‘red’ by the dirt they rubbed on their face during battle. There were lots of different tribes of Red indians like the Cherokee and Apache. THEY WERE NORMAL INDIANS.

Native Americans however are consider to be cousins of Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, etc., but are still categorized under the same race as them as Mongoloids. Source: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_Native_American_Indians_arrive

Your comments is right and agree 100%. Who is deporting who? That authority and mandate should be given to the native Americans!

The human right issue is also another problem. HR-2003 must approved first before discussing “U.S. to punish Ethiopia for refusing to accept deportees”.

US law makers must discuss first about the political landscape of each countries.

  4. who is crunching the numbers? 1,39,000 is non existent number. Could the whole story be false? Why are only 18,000 of them considered criminals if all of them are illigals. isn’t illigal mean criminal?

  5. I SECOND # 6 Zimita input,

    1. Fist why we should accept criminalls to commit other cirme in Ethiopia?

    2. Second why we should accept criminals who served TIME?

3rd. It is illegal to punish criminals for the same cirme twice once they served their TIME they are free person you like it or not therefore you can’t send them without their wish

4th it is not in their best interest for cirmial to stay in USA then to go back to Ethiopia? Since Ethiopia should stand for our people interest by refusing to accpet them is not in their best interest otherwise they would have been back in Ethiopa and become homeless in steert just like the rest of them

5th Why sould Ethiopia accpet US criminals while US refusing to return our criminals living larage after commiting cirme in Ethiopia… I agree if we have criminals exchange program as long as we don’t have that Ethiopia should not be forced to accpet criminals

6th unitl that time all cirminals case must be seen case by case if this guy grown up in USA we should not be accpting him but if he grown up in Ethiopia and the cirme he commited grose then we should accpet him as punshment beside we can’t win fight with USA therefore we should see it case by case

  6. These people left their country for a better life in America. They got that and how could they go back to their country that wasn’t good enough for them, to start? How could that government accept them? Can anyone blame their government refusing to accept?

USA is to blame for its immigration law. After so many years living there they can’t just turn around and tell a person “Oh we don’t want you here. go home”. These people should challenge the system by all means possible.

USA should learn a lesson from their Europian counterparts, regarding immigration.

I feel sorry for the people in this situation, but their country should not be forced to take them back. America should sort this mess, because of their own system failure, not the country they come from.

  7. I can’t wait to see U.S cuts off funds for TPLF/Meles gov.Thank you very much MR.TPLF for refusing to accept the criminals.I guess TPLF thinks if it accept the crimainals they will take over the gov.some how.LOL.TPLF doesn’t want to share the wealth with crimainals.

  8. I am extremly happy with the decission taken by weyanea not to accept the Ethiopians deporties from the USA. Evenif i am not a supporter of TPLF(Weyanea), I think in the history of weyanea regime, this is the first and the atmost right decission which has to be appreciated by all of us. Do you think there will be better job opportunity for the deporties in Ethiopia like there was in USA? Of course not. I don’t really mind if the deporties are well organized mentally as well as financially, and deported to Ethiopia where they are originally came from. But if the deporties have no money and no well beingness of the mind, what will be their fate? Is it very easy for someone who used to live in USA with great freedoom, excellent job opportunity and well civilised standered of life to settle back in Ethiopia? Can’t you see how difficult psychologically as well as morally for the deporties to handle the pressure of higher expectation of the Ethiopian socity, when they don’t have financial and moral strength? Therefore I don’t personally want Ethiopian governemnt to accept forceful deporties of its citizens, when they are not ready to return back. But I will normally welcomed the return of all Ethiopians in to their beloved country, if they are mentally ready and willing to return back, evenif they have no money and no well beingness.

  9. I am sorry to be too late to see these idiotic comments. It seems that no American is a criminal when you see right out here!! Who is more criminal than those who are jotting this mambo-jumbo-story?

Hey, who is killing innocent civilian through out the world? Who is messing the world around?

Shame up on you guys as who said this statement: “”Shockingly, criminal aliens (illegal migrants) who have served time in US prisons are routinely released onto our streets after their home countries refuse to take them back,” Castle said.”.

Human being should not be called as alien even out of his/her country on this planet.
You all there in America are simply aliens to that land. Do you believe or not?
Think ten times who you and your parents are and from where they are there. How can one migrate from Ethiopia to USA without visa? How can he/she be illegal immigrant?

You took by the name of Diversity Visa and made them criminals!!
However, Ethiopia should have accepted her children. Most of them made some silly mistakes because of cultural differences. They are not as such criminals. At least we do not have child molesters, rapers and the like, as it is common in your country.

    Deal with yourselves first.

It is just shame to read such vulgar languages on the web.

You should not go to any country right? You were born there, educated there, got old there and you will die there. Go and see the world. Diversity is beautiful.

Tolerance to each other is some thing better, Mr. Castle!!

  10. AFTER FOLLOWING ALL THE ETHIOPIAN TALK ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS IN USA AND HOW WE HAVE DONE NOTHING AND WE ARE NOT MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS TO USA. I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY “YOU CANT DEPORT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN” HA HA …..
