Dear Elias and Ethiopian Review readers,
This 27 page document by Ato Andargachew Tsige is a timely document where the diaspora has to pay a special attention. It is a pragmatic analysis of what has to be done now in Kinijit and all its supporting organizations all over the world. It is not a document for hairsplitting and bickering that is so common among our elites. I support discussions and arguments. But there is a point where discussion stops and action starts. Courageous people do not spend their time bickering.
Weyane is busy going after Kinjit leaders and their party. This ruthless public enemy is in the process of exhausting all legal means that makes it next to impossible for Kinijit to function as a politcal entity. The enemy is using its corrupt judicial system and justapo-type military machine.
It is very urgent for the diaspora to start the momentum to fight back. What is happening is far more worse than the imprisonment of our leaders. The enemy is in the process of killing the movement of Kinijit in Ethiopia by blocking all the means to a peaceful struggle. We can’t just watch this unfolding right in front of our eyes. It high time to do something. We don’t become what we discuss but we become what we do. You don’t do, you don’t become. If we want freedom, we have to fight. If we do the fighting, we become free.
Ato Andargachew , it is time to start an armed struggle.Weyane will never give political power peacefully. ARMED STRUGGLE IS THE ONLY AND THE BEST OPTION TO KICK OUT WEYANE AND FREE ETHIOPIA FROM USA’S SERVANT.
Elias
What does it take to convince the Kinijt leaders at home and abraod to support directly or indirectly the Armed Strugle? after all the peaceful strugle is is SO PEACEFUL
Woyane is dancing for the next election. Kinijit leaders urgently need to re-think, assess and change their approch to the entire problem and the strugle with Woyane.
Woyane will come to disussion table only when we fight all TPLF mafia man to man.
Elias i suggest ER,EthioMedia,ECADF& Addis Dimts Radio need to organize a meeting and discuss with all oppositoins leaders specially with Kinijit leaders that Armed Strugle should be concidered as part alternative
Hmmmm woye mended
I fully agree with almost all points raised by the beloved Ato Andargachew. No matter how ‘Chirak’ Woyanne was, is and will be, I do not support any armed struggle. Rather, I strongly believe that it wont take us much long time to say good bye to the dictators without it as they have already gone out of the minds of Ethiopians.
God bless our country.

Belay Zeleke,
If only knew how people like yourself piss me off. Why do you need to convince Kinijit leaders to support armed struggle?
If you do not believe in peaceful struggle, then it is you who is on the wrong place. Go join EPPF, OLF or ONLF or Hailu Shawel. He surely has a mentality of someone who leads an armed struggle. I am sure you ar one of his supporters.
Kinijit was elected after it convinced the Ethiopian people that it (Kinijit) will show peaceful struggle is possible. That we no longer have to raise arms and take away so many lives in order to have a regime change.
Yes, it was not possible to remove Woyane from power. Looking retrospectively that was not necessarily a bad thing. We would have Emperor Hailu replaced by Meles Zenawi. What would have we achieved by that? nothing. Looking back now, Kinijit was not prepared enough to take power in 2005 since it had in it undemocratic individuals who could have hijacked the whole democratic change to tyranny comparable to Dergue.
What am I trying to say: The principle of peaceful struggle did not fail. Kinijit failed to realize what it stood for. But Kinijit will have a second chance if and only if it takes the necessary measures to remove the undemocratic individuals in it. The road ahead surely will be difficult but it will not be impossible.
Once Kinijit democratized itself, the only reason that could prevent the peaceful struggle from being unsuccesful is if Woyane will be democratic.
Long live the peaceful struggle—long live Kinijit!
we do not need armed struggle, never and never, May 2005 election showed us that if opposition parties can work together they can change the situation for good!!!, but they are now in problems, after we who lived heree in Addis sufferred, i lost my brother in November 2005 conflict. i will never allow and agree with those who addvocate armed struggle. what my mother, father, and me got nothing, but deep sorrow. i wonder now the leaders of kinjit are fighting for power. thereforee please do not promet war.
This is a must read for everybody with a great concern for the motherland. What I am afraid is the inevitablity of bloody confrontation with those in power vs the opressed majority. What has been supressed need an outlet. It is a matter of time. Andy seems comfortable with this danger. Can anyone comment on this? Any way Bravo Andy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Short term and long term strategies
All techniques, means, methods, wisdoms, and political intrigues being used, there is no way Kinijit will triumph over the Woyanne regime by simply engaging the regime through peaceful dialogue and logical conversation. If Meles were a democratically elected leader, then, negotiation and dialogue would be essential; unfortunately Meles came to power by bullets and guns. In the same way, he would not leave his corrupt office unless he is compelled by an overwhelming force – his own force – the army. Money, total commitment, energy, and time may limit Kinijit to raise or recruit a new army; however, Kinijit should spend much time and deep thinking to change Meles’ standing army’s culture that glorifies one man, that serves one dictator, that gives allegiance to a rotten regime by slowly, gently, wisely, and amicably converting it into Kinijit’s ideology: no one is above the law, and every person is “entitled to his/her opinion” no matter what that person is.
To raise one’s own army takes money and time; therefore, let us send political and spiritual missioners throughout the country where the Meles soldiers are residing, guarding Meles’ properties and his political interests. These missioners must try to tell them our missions – to improve their salaries, to educate their children, to provide them affordable housing, free health care, and good pensions. Before we send our missioners to Meles’ standing army, we must be sure these missioners are fluent in Amharic, Tigrigna, and Orominga, assuming Meles’ army is composed of these three major ethnic groups. Once the army is convinced that Kinijit has a sound plan that satisfies most of the Ethiopian people, there is no reason that they would not be able to overthrow the Woyanne regime within a blink of an eye. This is the short term solution to the problem Woyanne has been creating to our country.
The long term solution is that Kinijit must continue working as a non-violence organization and try to convince all Ethiopians that democracy can be achieved in Ethiopia by a means of peaceful demonstration and by boycotting certain businesses. To achieve such a long term goal, it takes quite a long time and perseverance, but the result will be magnificent. Some of us are, however, very impatient and want to achieve everything within a short time; it is better to think carefully and work patiently. Otherwise, every thing will break down if it is done haphazardly as one of the Ethiopian saying goes: “seirothu yetatekut surie, seirothu yifetal” or “yejib shikul, kend yineksal.” We have to plan carefully, compare our strength with Meles’ strength; if we find out we are missing something, we have to go back to the drawing board and plan again. Finally we will be triumphant over our mischievous enemy – Meles Zenawi.
I share the concern of Addisu Micael though his point seems out of context from Ato Andargachew’s well done analysis. Whether we like it or not the present situation with the absence of freedom, democracy, justice, etc. leads to volitile state of anarchy unpredictably. The only warranty for this not to happen in my opinion is accepting KINIGT,S 8 points.
