It is good to see these children have a chance to know and grow up with the new technology. My son started using my computer at the age of 2. Now at 4, he can do anything he want on his own children programs. He play games, listen story, solve puzzles and read letters.
I wish these children too get the same chance and education that my child is getting. We Ethiopians in diaspora should do a lot by contributing such things like computers back to our country.
But in Ethiopia in my assumption, there is a lot of investment needed to improve the Education cariculum, reducing class sizes and each child to get the best of his education, before giving each child a laptop. With 70 to 80 people class sizes, how can 1 or 2 teachers control the class and give the necessary education that is appropriate to the child. I am not objecting the laptop to each child project, but more money should be poured to the main education system and schoos quality before giving a child a laptop. I will take this as a positive gain but there is more work to do.
Italy, our former adversary and friend (Adversary: it destroyed many Ethiopian lives during World War II; Friendly: It built very costly roads in Ethiopia, especially the Lemalimo Road between Debebahir and Debark in Semen.) has willingly donated a substantial number of laptops to the Ethiopian children, perhaps as indemnity for its destruction of Churches, properties, and for the killings of thousands of Ethiopian soldiers for almost five years since it had illegally invaded Ethiopia.
For what ever reason the Italian donation might be, it is a good gesture of friendship between Ethiopia and Italy. The question, however, is who will get these 50, 000 laptops, the Ethiopian poor children or the few selected ones from Meles home town? If Italy is asked the same question, I think, its response would be the Adwa children, because Adwa had been an intensive battle ground between the Ethiopian army and the Italians. However, the donor has no a say on who will get the donation, but the receiver has a moral responsibility to fairly distribute those laptops to the Ethiopian students including the Anuak children.
To the frustrations of many of us, Ethiopia, as a country, has remained as an eleemosynary institution for a long time. At this time, Ethiopia is supposed to manufacture its own laptops instead of receiving them as donations from another country. It is too sad our country, more advanced in ancient history, culture, and morality, is far way back in the many wonders of modern technology. As far as the “brain drain” continues because of the Woyanne’s selfish political leaders, Ethiopia will never be able to put its house in order. The solution to this chronic problem is to bring back home all the educated Ethiopians in the diaspora and allow them to use their brains freely so that they could produce those laptops and many other indispensable products for Ethiopia and for the whole continent of Africa. If Ethiopia continues to lose its educators at an alarming number each year, it will remain always looking for a donor nation to get laptops or grain, sophisticated weapons or many other manufactured goods, instead of producing them itself, using its abundant raw materials.
I don’t bother where the laptops go! if it goes to Adwa what is wrong? they are Ethiopian children too. Don’t be narrow minded. Rather my concern is, Why Italy wanted to aid Laptops? HMMMMMMMMMM~~~~And What is inside the Laptops…who checked? why I say this? B/c, this is an electronic information age.
Let God save this country. Aid has become an instrument to destroy this country.

Kefyalew, do you have a UFO picture you want to share with us?
I hope you have read my short comment about the 50, 000 laptops thoroughly; if you have, then, I have never said the laptops should not go to the Adwa children. What I said was that the laptops should be distributed fairly among the Ethiopian children, and for giving my personal opinion, you said: “Don’t be narrow minded.” Can you tell me the statements I made that would describe my narrow mindedness?

Big step forward, ambitious though.
Rest assured that most of the laptops will be sent to Tigray.
