Fire damages an Ethiopian church in Seattle

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE — Firefighters had to break holes in a second-floor ceiling to run hoses and put out a fire in the attic of a Seattle church building.

The fire was reported just after noon at the Amanuel Ethiopian church in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

Lt. Sue Stangl (STANG’-ell) says it’s a two story wood frame building with three apartments on the upper floor. Everyone was out when firefighters arrived and no one was injured.

Stangl says there’s no word yet on the cause or the loss from the damage.

  1. Dear members of the Amanuel Ethiopian Church:

When such things as man-made or natural disasters hit our properties, our churches, and some times kill some of our members, we should come together and help one another. Our common enemy, the Devil, has many hidden ways to frustrate us by burning down our church, and finally by separating us from Christ Jesus, our Lord. However, losing a church building should not separate us from the love of God as St. Paul said: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor any thing else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39) So be firm more than ever, build your church again, and continue to praise God in a new house of God. Remember God is a spirit. You can worship him any where, in a church, in a house, under a tree, or in the open air. Jesus once said: “…a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem….Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21-24) Peace to all of you!
