Meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister dictator Meles Zenawi
Statement by Secretary Condoleezza Rice
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
December 5, 2007
Today, I met with Ethiopian Prime Minister brutal dictator Meles Zenawi and representatives of the Ethiopian Woyanne government to discuss issues of bilateral importance to both of our nations, with a focus on Ethiopia’s relations with Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea. Other areas of discussion included regional security and fighting terrorism; democracy and human rights; economic development and food security; and public health concerns such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
During today’s meeting, we emphasized the need for a comprehensive ceasefire agreement to be forged between Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and non-extremist opposition groups, which would help prevent further violence and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Mogadishu. We also discussed the need for the TFG to urgently resume the transitional political process outlined by the Transitional Federal Charter leading towards national elections in 2009. On Sudan, I encouraged Prime Minister Meles to send Ethiopian Woyanne troops pledged to the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) as soon as possible, and to work with Khartoum to allow UNAMID deployments, including non-African troops, to move forward unhindered. I also urged the Prime Minister to avoid any acts that might heighten friction between Eritrea and Ethiopia and to take concrete steps to lessen tensions on the border. There must not be a resumption of hostilities initiated by either side. We also discussed the importance of strengthening democratic institutions in Ethiopia and the issue of food security, with a specific focus on ensuring unrestricted commercial food delivery throughout the country, including the Ogaden.

Elias,I can’t thank you enough for cancelling those unappropriate words.Keep doing that till we have a legitimate government.
you know Rice or Meles or Bush they have the same idea wich is kill kill and save money
What a hypocrite – Rice condemns Robert Mugabe for only imprisoning opposition leaders for one week and talks about US relationship with the Butcher of Ethiopia and Somalia – She didn’t even raise the human right abuse of Ethiopians over the last 17 years which is documented by the US State Department – the office for which she is in charge.
Mugabe was and still is a Freedom Fighter against the white rule who liberated his country from white tyranny. Meles, on the other hand, is a murderer tyrant who is responsible for the sufferings, imprisonment and killings of hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians, Eritreans and Somalis.
It is simply sad that an African American woman such as Ms. Rice can not see beyond the lies and smokescreen offered by this little man. I have respect for Ms Rice but wish her to stop complicity with dictators. Last but not least I wish she first removes the incompetent Ms. Jedayi Frazer who is messing the US foreign policy in Africa.
Dr Rice
I am ashamed of your and millions of African Americans share my view. You have no courage or desire to challange dictators around the world specially the famous dectator you met face to face ,Crime Minister Leges Zenawi.
Dr Rice you forgot your roots. What a shame
Dear Elias,
While appreciating your effort to provide us with the most up to-date information surrounding the situation in our country, I think it is unfair to edit what people said from the view point of your professional ethics. You may comment on the issue, but I am of the opinion to leave what has been said as is for your readers judgment. Otherwise, keep your effort up.
Meles the Slave of the west will do what they asked him to do as long as they help him to stay in his chair and kill innocent Ethiopians. He does not hesitate the pull and clean them after they use the bath room. That is how he grew up and that is how he lives.
Did seceratry rice say any thing about H.R 2003[ THE ETHIOPIAN’S DEMOCRACY AND ACCOUNTABILTY ACT OF 2007]? Why did the weyanes medias talk about Rice opposing of h.r 2003? shame on these lairs. whether they like it or not H.R 2003 will pass with full support of the senators.
As I understand it nowadays, if the former dictator of Ethiopia, Mengistu H/Mariam, did side with the American block rather than the Soviet Union, the Americans would have never came against him. I think they don’t give a damn however a government is barbaric and dictator, as long that government works along the American “national interest”. But what the Bush Government could not see is the strategic or long term interest of its nation. I don’t think the national interest of America would be preserved by siding with a blunt dictatorial regime of Meles Zenawi, and totally neglecting the feelings and interests of the Ethiopian People. I can’t see the logic of flirting with a government whose sun is fast setting.
Dear all,
Let me remind you one more time that the American government is a government of Amercian people, by American people and for the American people…. and not for Ethiopian people… Therefore, beware that all their national as well as international policies are designed in a way to secure lasting benefits of their citizens……The most important thing we all should acknowledge is that the greatest success comes only when we have faith in ourselves.. when we believe we can make a difference.. when we keep doing practical things beyond talks..as u might have heard of the definition of “learning: a permanent change in behaviour” our struggle should be supplemented by strong and persistent actions against odds of the TPLF led dictatorial regime.. each of us has the capability to make a difference and play paramount role.. we all should not overlook what we as individuals can do….fro example, as simple as not buying any item from Weyanes themsleves or Weyane propagandists to collapse their economic base in the short or long term (reminding people around us to follow the same track) … A wish alone can do nothing……
The United States has a grand history of allying with Dictators to reap a wide range of benfits …. Dictators are reliable allies to the USA governemnt because they are not obliged to secure the development and welfare of “their people”, rather they are self striving corrupt bunch of individuals ..Dictators know they have not and will not have any future with the people they claim they belong to.. hence they are always insecure, liable…. this is what the Western Democracies want from sadist dictators so that they can easily spot them … once they found them it is dictators which they can manipulate to secure the benefits of their nations………
As a conclusion, Ethiopians for Ethiopia!!! Let us learn doing things ourselves for ourselves ..let us start growth.. it is only then we get Americans and others to our side.
Jujuye
I think the state dept is starting to realise that a genocide with their blessing is going on in ogaden and mogadushu and they want to change gears fast and put all the blame on agent meles just in case an out cry from the world comes. She is trying to wash her hand from the blood spilled by her agent meles. It is a good direction but those of us in Ethiopia will not be free until this monster dictator is gone.
If we want other to consider us important the first thing we need to do is to make ourselves important.
DR RICE, you are really shameless person. According you and yourboss bush argument, those leaders who refused to accept and protect USA’s interst are dictators and criminals , You have no morale ground to crticis robert mugabe , because roberet mugabe is far better than your friend melese. NO double standard in case of human rights and democracy
Dear Sons/Daughters of my beloved country,
I heard from the VOA Reporter in AA that Ms. Rice told reporters that she won’t support HR2003. And this is not surprising as long as she carries the intention/position of her boss– Mr.Bush. Do not forget with whom her assistant– Frazer stand. It was/is very unfortunate to see African- Americans giving unconditional support to African dictators who killed and are terrorizing innocent citizens.
We are well aware of the existence of African-Origin intellectuals and higher officials who are not courageous enough and principled. Instead, they helped/ are helping for the perpetuation of dictatorial regimes as well as the continuation of the untold suffering of millions of poor
Africans. Anyway, the decisive roles and responsibilities are within ourselves.
Please, my country fellows do not expect from westterners to librate your countrry from dictators. It is good fight with brutal government witth stone and wood rather than expect support from America and West whatever take the time. Defend your country and believe in yourself and make determination to fight with dictators, like Melese. Ok my friends.

Yes and true. It must be Ethiopians who must continue to strive for establishing the envisioned democracy and prosperity by being united in crushing the current brutal and thieves who are oppressing and suppressing the overwhelming majority of Ethiopians.
The most primary objective must be to defeat the enemy and free the millions form the yok of the tplfwoyanne brutal grip, then focus on the other issues that are important for all of us.
We know deep down in our hearts that we will definitely yank out this brutal regime for once and for all; in doing so,we must also keep an eye on the spies that the meles naziawie regime sends on all Ethiopians.
can any one fine teh email address of Mrs. Condolezza Rice ? we must send her protest messages. I recently found a Free Fax system http://www.faxzero.com. If we have her Fax, we could also send it to her.
My Dear brothers and sisters, I still can’t understand some of you still want the state department to condemn the criminal Melles. We should not forget Melles is thier handler (who does dirty jobs eg. envade Somalia). Remember when Kinijit won and all our people where on the street we could have wone and the Weyane would have been in prison if it was not the state deppartment fulled our guys to give time to Melles. They put melles not from luck of knowledge but if the priminister is elected by the poeple he would not be serving thier interest but Ethiopian interest. My dear bathers and sisters, lets stop believing that we will get our country back by us or any body. Lets believe on ourselfs and start doing things for our selfs as brother Debbebe Regassa on #9 said it nicely.
