Malawi deports 71 Ethiopians for illegal entery

Malawi’s immigration authorities have reportedly deported 71 illegal aliens from Ethiopia who entered the country illegally using uncharted routes, APA learnt here Wednesday.

Northern Malawi’s Immigration Officer Selwin Simfukwe said police in Rumphi intercepted the Ethiopians after a tip-off from well-wishers in the rural district located in the north of the country.

«Most of the immigrants, who were divided in a group of four, came to Chikwawa Village to ask for some drinking water and this made the villagers to be suspicious and alerted the police,» he said.

Simfukwe added the Ethiopians were assisted by two Malawian traffickers, a driver of a three-tonne truck who was ferrying them and another Malani Mkandawire, the leading trafficker.

He said the police had arrested the two Malawians and charged with aiding illegal immigrants and will appear in court soon.

  1. Malawi deporting Ethiopians? what a shame for all of us. we have no place of shelter and no friendly nation to accommodate us. we do know the cause why these brothers/sisters are just running their birth place.
I don’t know how to put the words to express my feeling, I am weak for that.
Can anybody tell me what we should do to hold their extradition back to torture and abuse?

  2. I am sure these Poor Ethiopian were trying to enter to south Africa. and these Ethiopian must be the first immigrant Malawi ever deported. who would want to live in Malawi? If not for the Political situation in our country, Ethiopia is much better than Malawi. “AMED BEDUKET YISKAL”.

  3. Ya, I am sure these unlucky ethiopians were on their way to south africa. I know this because of my own nephew who departed for south africa a month or so ago…Oh God, I wish I didn’t help him to escape to SA. Then again, I couldn’t ignore him because he has been begging me to send him money for his long trip to SA….My heart is bleeding right now….I am not sure what to do. the guilt is killing me. I just wish this is not a true story.

  4. Yes I know Malawi, a country similar to Gamo Gofa province except in Population. The largest city ,Blantyre, has three traffic lights. I think no one want to migrate there. These unfortunate country men are on their way to South Africa.
I am realy touched. When is the ordeal of Ethiopians ending. When is God answering… I am realy crying..

  5. I have seen Malawi recently,as compared to Eth it much much poor than Eth,Please Yagere leje erasehene tebeke yalehone bota zeme belehe atehedi Becouse the country has no economy,Yecigara ena Yehnecora econome new yalachewe.

  6. Why are we crying while he is laughing on us?

Is this how our forefathers fought and won against the much, much better armed enemy.

I tell what, our problem is lack of leaders, many opportunists the like Hailu Shawel, Bedru, Lidetu… blinded by self prestige and money come and go abandoning the country in the middle of the battle, after they filled up their pockets.

Others drunken by narrow ethnic philosophy they want to slash the country along ethnic lines and create small colonies. Until then they are locked behind their sinister and disastrous design for the people and country.

Until we find honest, disinterested, trustworthy individuals who can mobilize the whole country regardless of any ethnic line we are left to suffer in many way.

And nobody can bring that change for us, we have to accept and pay that sacrifices like our forefathers.

The Malian can not be blamed for securing their country, we have our own that is under mercenaries rule.

We have to stand up and fight, until we realize and establish real democracy and a WARM HOME FOR ALL OF US

  7. well, unfortunately the youth of ethiopia is dermined to leave outside of their natural country. This has nothing to do with politics. Todays generation is hell bent in exploring the unknown world and they will keep paying for it with their dear lives. No need to feel sorry!

  8. I do not know what to say. It is not Malawi, South Africa, Yemen, etc… who deport Ethiopian (not only Ethiopian, many Africans) for illegal entry, if the boarders of USA is not secured the way we see it, there will be a lot of illegal immigrant to the USA. Try to compare the Mexicans illegally migrating to USA? we have’nt see people in the tranks of the car? in containners? along the boarder between USA and Mexico? All the immigrant want to come to USA for better pay and further to change their life back home. Some of them return back after work or they settle. BUT MEXICAN HAVE A WORKING CULTURE BUT WHAT ABOUT US.

I am going arround and very careful in what I want to say, when I mention about working culture. See all Ethiopians coming to USA, about 90% of Ethiopian work in the Airports or parking. Why? I do not know? Try to figure out why? Why many Ethiopians do not work as plumbers? Electricians? Utility Guy? Carpenters? Is it difficult to become one of the above or these jobs are for others? Why for generation all of us work in the same place following the foot steps of our elders her in USA? My quaestion is; are we still think as “kings” the way we think in Ethiopia? Are we still think that there are only certain fields which we can onl work and we can’nt? ARE WE A VICTIM OF OUR CULTURE??? Which culture??

Back home, despite some political problem, many Ethiopians especially those in youth age, want to be rich over night. It is good to be rich, but do you have plans how you gone be rich? Are you going to beg to become rich? OR ARE WE PLANNING TO WORK HARD ANY THING FROM SCRATCH EVENTUALLY TO BECOME A HARD WORKING GUY EXPECTING TO USE PROPERLY THE MONEY WE GOT FROM HARD WORK?

We have lots and lots of brothers which they do not know what to do? But expect a lot of money from us to start work. Even they complain the amount of money we sent for them. I do not think politics is playing a major role on this disgusting illegal migration and sufferring, but also our own sentiments towards WORK and above all our old fashion group thinking and unbalanced support for illegal actions.

Did you think lack of Democracy and unjust political practices are the only cause for such mass migration? I do not know if I am right or wrong; but see China before 20 years (it was the present Ethiopia – I was there), but see the current China. There was no Democracy before 20 years and no democracy now; I am not saying democracy is bad but democracy will not make you a Hard Working Citzen or Help Your Personality – unless you change yourself to hard working people with good working culture as our fathers did. Sorry but forced to share my thoughts wethere I am right or wrong, and see it from this angle too.

  9. The Ethiopian cultural attitude toward hard work, time and encouraging achievement through hard work has nearly diminishing? Abe asks repeatedly why? I think he is right in many aspects. If we think our culture feels the past is significant and relevant to the present, good but how are we doing now to tie the current questionable Working Culture to history. Is it really we are victims of our culture in this aspect??????????

In Ethiopia the old and the new collide in many things? To be a politician we have to be old or elderly? To have a better life do we have to go necessarily outside of our country. Abe has raised a lot of my worries and questions I used to suffer. Guys let give a thought on this before we get ashamed of ourselves.

In Ethiopia there are different tribal or ethnic groups with hundreds of subsets that determine Ethiopia’s social,
historical, and economic fate. This will not change and we cannot change it but we have to value it and respect it. Discrimination based on ethnic is outlawed but ethnic support remains significant in politics, business, and marriage. As far as it is health and productive. This are unspoken facts, but do not have any negative effect in destroying the younger generation working culture.

Not everyone think of good work culture as an important factor in his or her or country development. Advocating working hard, anything in own country may change this “SEKOKA” in time. We have to tell and teach our young once to be confident in their own ability to work, but also going out always will not change life but also take life. We have to tell them the fact how we are living.
