Civilians dragged the body of an Ethiopian Woyanne soldier in the streets of Somalia’s capital on Thursday after fighting with insurgents killed a second soldier and civilian, witnesses said.
In the grisly incident, more than 100 civilians stepped and spat on the scarred body as they dragged it for several kilometres (miles) on a pot-holed asphalt road from Mogadishu’s Suqaholaha district to Barubah, an AFP correspondent reported.
“We will fight against the Ethiopian Woyanne colonisers and we will kill them like this”, “Down with Ethiopia, Allah is Great”, they chanted in native Somali language.
The slain soldier — with only a camouflage trouser and his body badly scarred — was among two Ethiopians and a civilian killed in heavy fighting that rocked northern Mogadishu’s Suqaholaha district earlier in the day, witnesses said.
“After the fighting, Ethiopian Woyanne forces came and collected the body of one of their own killed in front of my door,” said resident Ali Nur Yayah, referring to the second soldier.
“Five civilians were also wounded in the fighting,” he added.
Another resident, Hussein Mohamad, said he “saw the body of a slain man in civilian clothes at the battlefield.”
The incident comes nearly a week after insurgents paraded three Ethiopian Woyanne troops through the streets of Mogadishu in a scene somewhat reminiscent of 1993, when the bodies of US special forces taking part in a doomed operation were famously torn to pieces and paraded in the streets.
Ethiopian Woyanne troops have been intensifying their operation against Islamist rebels in recent days in a bid to break the back of an insurgency that has plagued efforts to stabilise the transitional government for months.
The Ethiopian Woyanne army came to the rescue of the embattled Somali government last year to oust an Islamist militia that briefly controlled large parts of the country and sought to impose Islamic law.
The Islamic Courts Union was defeated earlier this year, but its remnants and allied tribes have since waged a guerrilla war against their enemies.
Bloody clan feuds following the 1991 ousting of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre escalated into a civil war which continues to defy every peace initiative.

Shame on you, Elias that you treat an Ethipian solidier worst than the somalis. No wisdom at all and full of hatred. I am so sorry when you use your talents and resources in such a way. The solidier could be a father of an Ethiopian Boy or girl, a son of a poor mother and father, a brother of many Ehiopian families. He could also be related to you. For all you know he could even be an opposition supporter. Shame on you like you report that about a fellow fallen Ethiopian solidier that you know nothing about. This is not a way to oppose the current gov’t. This is hatred gone wild.

These soldiers are employees of the Woyanne brutal regime. They have invaded a neighboring country, massacred its young men, displaced hundreds of thousands of the population, raped its women, and wreaked havoc in the country at the service of Woyanne. It is these same soldiers who gunned down Ethiopian pro-democracy protestors in the streets of Addis Ababa and other cities. It is these same soldiers who shot in the back harmless girls like Shibre Desalegn, Meseret Tadesse and other. It is these same soldiers who committed genocide in Gambela and are currently waging a scorched earth policy in Ogaden. These solders are committing all these war crimes willingly on behalf of Woyanne. To recognize these soldiers as Ethiopian army is to dishonor the real Ethiopian soldiers of the past. It is an insult to real Ethiopian soldiers like Dej. Balcha Aba Nefso, Ras Alula Aba Nega, Col. Abdisa Aga, Ras Tessema Nadew, and numerous others. Those troops in Somalia are Woyanne mercenaries and war criminals.

Dear Sol commonsense
I am not clear what you want to say.It is not a matter of being relative or not.The soldier is our brother, our compatrait,we feel the all the pain of his relatives because he is Ethiopian. So the pain is to all Ethiopians not only to the soldier or to his relatives. I do not see anything wrong with Elias in reporting this case.Rather he made us feel the pain of our brothers in Somalia and Ethiopia too.I think this contributes to stand together to fight the stupid action of EPRDF to send our brothers to Somalia in particular and the undemocratic system in the our country.I said this because this action is the result of being undemocratic. Had EPRDF been democratic all this could not have happened. So I believe Elias did his best and recommend him to continue his effort.
sol I agree with you,but this soldier “A father a brother of many ethiopins”killed his owen fathers brothers mothers sisters daughters and sons,YE ARADA LIJOCH DEM BEKENTU FESO AYKERIM,GOD WE COUNT ON YOU!
Dear Elias:
You are simply a courageous and truthful person that is needed in this time of woyane misinformation campaign. I am glad that you also responded in kind to those hypocrites and wolves in sheep skin, with there crocodile tears, but in truth are either traitors or woyane cadres.
They do not represent Ethiopia – they are the same us “Aba Dula Gemeda, Tefera Walwa, Addisu?, Kuma Demeksa” in military uniform. Ethiopian memebers of the Woyane Defense Forces are fleeing away to either join Ethiopians (EPDF, OLF, ONLF etc) and all other Ethiopian Freedom Fighters OR fleeing to neighbouring countries – not to fight Woyanes genocidal war!!!
ELIAS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU ARE DOING – YOU CERTAINLY SPEAK FOR ME – YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE PATRIOTIC ETHIOPIAN!!!
dear Elias,
How did you know these soldiers shot on innocent people ethiopia? i mean did you have the evidence these particular soldiers killed the people in ethiopia? i have no remorse for the current people in the government but i think it is not right for you to say “these are the same soldiers that killed or shot on innocent ethiopians. just know i am not saying you should not report on it, but i am saying do not say all soldiers should be seen as meles.
Meles Zinawi and his crime family made bleed the loving hearts and minds of those mothers whose children have been snatched out of their caring arms and ended up dead and dgragged not on a clean carpet or something like, just to speak;rather, they were dragged in a killing heat, alive but dead beyond recognision. Is it fair?
Do those crying mothers know that their children are bloody dead and left on the street only to be dragged dead for day long to many yards?
Well, now the mother may know that as their loving heart bleed, their childrens’ dead body is bleeding non stop. The mothers would never come back to their caring once their are snatched out of their hands.
It is totally disturbbing and heartbreaking to see these tiny God’s children have ended up dead bloody when they had to go to church or school to learn and pray.Is it fair?
Meles Zinawi and his crime family are alredy intoxicated with the blood those children who were murdered in Adddis Ababa. Don’t we Ethiopians fight against the enemy while we mourn for the dead?
What awited the woyanne solders in Somalia is death and they are now may be feeling what is like to shot and being dgagged dead in a foreign country.
I think we should clearly differentiate between the Melles circle and the average poor Ethiopian soldier. Even without that distinction, we should show some RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE.
Our message should be “Melles will pay for the Ethiopian lives lost in Somalia and elsewhere.” He will have to find an answer for the question why he dragged our brothers and sisters in to the first war of aggression waged by an Ethiopian ruler.
the right ethiopian army is onlf, olf, eppf, slf,
the woyanne army is not ethiopian army, they have 98/100
