i second that. best interview and answer. i think that is why they hate him. he is very smart and i love smart people. Ethiopia lacks people like Dr. Birhanu and she needs people like him.
I hope he practices what he preaches for the sake of Kinijit, the fallen citizens, and Ethiopia.
No matter the cause of their differences, I believe that there should have been a better way to resolve the issue before it came out in the open. There are enough mature and educated people in Kinijit to do this. I am disppointed with both sides for not working harder to this end so far. I still have hope with Kinijit to unite itself but time is running out.
Part II will be even better. THey can not match him in intellect. The only thing left for them is name calling and insults. They brought two professionals all the way from Ethiopia. Neither Bedru nor Nigist even attempted to provide any vison or insight. But vile. But then again that is what we are to expect. The boat is sinking and fast. I suspect EPRP will sense the loss and split leaving Hailu and Taye hanging to dry.
Hailu and Iyasu – son of President Gima aka Hama Tuma – make a good couple. They are both brain dead.
Dr BN Thank you/ you are teaching us what and how cud and democracy works. I really appriciate your explanation.we need this kind of leaders. I was in Ethiopia for vacation during the elecation. I remember the last debate by you and Lidetu. You both did a great job.I am sure that you covinced a lots of people and showed EPRDF’s political and economic agenda doesnot work for Ethiopia. Please keep up your good job.
I was so proud to hear Dr. Berhanu’s interview on VOA. He was direct, articulate and honest. Listening to his interview (as well as the speech he gave in Washington DC), assures me there is still hope for Kinijit and Ethiopia to move forward and build democracy. In his interview, You don’t here him accusing or trashing anyone, just sticking to his principles and FACTS. It’s refreshing to have an Ethiopian politician that is above the personal attack and explain the issue. I hope Engineer Hailu and other politician will learn how to build democracy from this young articulate mind. As Dr. Berhanu said “If Knijit can’t govern by democratic decisions; we can’t bring democracy to Ethiopia”. Dr Berhanu’s message is crystal clear; the problem within Kinijit is that Engineer Hailu think he is above the majority decision. As Professor Mesfine tried to tell as, this isn’t power straggle but a fight to FREE knijit from the dark ages and to build a democratic party that can give hope to our beloved country Ethiopia.
Soon after Professor Mesfin’s allegation I staunchly defended Dr. Birhanu because I know his aspirations, prospective and accomplishments. The interview makes me even more proud of him and proves that I was absolutely correct. Indeed it is a great blessing to have such an eminent, versatile & visionary leader. Go Birhanu go!
I would be happy to find a single flaw in his speaches and interviews but no where! I think in democracy we, the people, decide based on what the political personalities say and do out in the open. Dr Birhanu demonstrated unpresidented statesmanship in consistently. So long I say go go dear countryman.
A home run for the good Doctor! As disappointed as I am at “The Professor”, Dr Birhanu gives me hope for the future. He is not only articulate and smart but also genuine. That is what Ethiopia needs. He has my vote.
Sure he is very articulate and consistent in his contents – mainly talks about democracy and good governance. He is so smart and he didn’t mention about his personal interests or his indirect influence on the organization. And I blive that how all smart poleticians are including Meles and Lidetu. They all belong to the same group, all lack honesty.
Dr. Birhanu concentrated on FACT and democratic principles. Not in name calling and ALUBALTA etc. This is the way forward! If someone in Kinijit is above the law, then he is no different from Meles. This is a struggle for the rule of law. NO one should be above the law, even Hailu Shawel.
ademe
ademe my ethiopian brother thanks for your well written comment and all i can say is AMEN. We need more people like Dr. Berhanu and less of Eng Hailu or any educated but useless peopple with big ego
Dr. Berhanu did a good job. He didn’t criticize anyone.
Prof. Mesfin did fight for deocracy but he didn’t meet my expectation during his last interview. He discussed principles. From his interviews I understand that it was not an issue of power struggle. He simply couldn’t stand people who want “I tell you, you do it” style adopted by Hailu Shawel. This is a lesson for future kinijit leaders, that dictatorship doesn’t work.
As far as I can see the current problem in Kinijit is due to jealosy against one individual. That individual is Berhanu Nega. They feel threatened by his intelligence and clear thoughts. My message to Ato Hailu is no one is too old to learn so please learn from him. You should not feel threatened by his intelligence that he will be too popular therefore will snatch away the chairmanship from you. I don’t think this his goal. So open your mind learn about democractic ways and for God’s sake you have absoluteley brilliant people around you so work with them to take our beloved country out of misery.
Dr. Brehanu is a real politician. I am impressed with him. The name calling thats coming from ato Hailu’s “group” is sad and shameful. its the most childish and unprofessional thing they could do. As professor Mesfin said, Mr. hailu has abandoned his party and acting like a kid. Much respect fro Dr. Brehanu
Dr Berhanu Nega’s response to the question of VOA are consistent as to all the information I have been hearing about eng. hailu shawel’s dictatorial practices. It is a question of moderating as a chairman in a democratically operating political party based on Kinijit’s principles of presiding over a meeting. if these principles are not implemented in practice, then, there is a problem with the chairmanship. I am convinced that this is the core of the party’s problem and should be dealt with according to the principles of Kinijit
I totally agree what johnathan said, they can not match him in intellect. That is it. Let me tell you one thing dear all readers Ethiopia desperately need people like Dr berhanu and birtukan I like them not because of there educational background is good, but they have good heart. We hate meles not because he is unprofessional to tell you the truth he is by far better than some of kenejet leaders what he lucks is good heart in Amharic we call it “kenenet” As I am a science student I express Dr berhanu as:-
Dr berhanu = little more intellect of meles + good heart of bertukan – rigid (senseless) nature of eng hailu sawel – weak in everything like bedru adem
As bertukan once said ‘ kinijit menfese newe’ it will go on with or without Hailu or others. We will go on and have a rule of law that we dreamed of in the 2005 elections. I still picture how a security guy hit a fellow brother with the back of his rifle infront of my eyes… I need that to end and Dr. Berhanu is one of the guys who will make that happen with our geniune support … Go Dr. Berhanu

Just wow. That is all I can say.
I said it before, I will say it again Kinijit needs Dr. Berhanu Nega.
No question that he is articulate.
I hope he practices what he preaches for the sake of Kinijit, the fallen citizens, and Ethiopia.

Prof. Mesfin’s recent interview made Dr. Berhanu more outshining and appealing to the people.
If the Prof is going to make another interview this is what he has to say – “I did what I said on purpose – to challenge Berhanu.”
I can’t wait to attend the meeting and listen to these great children of Ethiopia(the delegates) on Sunday as we say thank you and good bye to them.
