The Shaleqa-EPRP meeting in Washington DC may be canceled

The meeting that was organized by the Shalleqa-EPRP alliance (KIC) at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington DC has been canceled, according to the hotel’s events manager, Ms Heather Jasper.

ER tried to contact the Shaleqa group for explanation on why the meeting is canceled, but one source said that they are in an emergency meeting.

The Sunday, Oct. 14, meeting was reserved by KIC under “All Ethiopian Party Conference,” according to the hotel managers.

Ato Hailu Shawel was scheduled to arrived in Washington DC today to attend the Oct. 14 public meeting, but according to ER sources, he is still in Minnesota.

UPDATE
The hotel’s event manager has gone home for today, but another person who works at the sales office told Ethiopian Review a few minutes ago (6:15 PM) that the organizers of the meeting and the hotel management may have resolved their differences and that the meeting may go on as planned. The sales office said that only the events department can give out definitive information when they open tomorrow morning. According to sources in the hotel, the disagreement is said to be over security arrangements.

I am still in denial that ato hailu coould do this to us!!!!!! I am not surprised a bit about the rest.The hero that I adored for confornting the tribal thug/woyane. I still hope that he will come out and clear the confusion.I do not understand why he is scared to come to the open and speak to us!!!!!!!

    What? What? What? Are my ears failing me or what?

    What is All Ethiopian Party ? Is this Hailu Showel’s new party? Is this why he was bragging so many times the idea of changing the name of Kinijit?

    Now, I got his points. He is coming out slowly but gradually. Is this the person we fought for two years day and night in hot and cold weather for his release in the name of Kinijit? What did imprisonment do to him? Is this the same man we used to know who is now bold enough to scrap the name Kinijit off of our political struggle? Is he going to be the second Lidetu? Time will tell and we will wait.

    Any way, if the meetings is indeed cancelled, it will be the first step in the right direction.

  13. Good New, but I don’t trust Shalqa and Co. Ethiopians in DC; I suggest you to continue on you plan to protest. Even if the meeting is cancel just go ahead and meet in front of the hotel and show your unity and you don’t allow another dictator to take over Ethiopia.

  14. i just called to the hotel and the opretor told me the meeting was cancelled at one time to day but not any more and for some reason she does not know she,is still uncertain and told to tell to people still there is a meeting

  16. MEAD Party Conference called by Elite Feudal in Trouble

    The meeting that was set to take place on Sunday, Oct. 14 in Washington DC has created unexpected inferno within the KIC group. This was a well organized political stunt by Dr. Taye Woldesmaite and funded by Eng Hailu and family personally.

    Despite all preparations and behind close door talks within the ranking members of KIC clan, they managed to sell only a handful tickets for the event and the majority of the event ticket was purchased by Ethiopians who are dedicated to coming to the meeting and confront Eng Hailu & KIC clan if need be ready to fight at the meeting. The hotel also recived hundreds of threatening phone calls from angry Ethiopian with Eng Hailu’s actions. Today Shaleka Yoseph call urgent meeting to consult inner KIC ranking leaders with exception of Dr Taye Woldesmaite.

    Here is why the KIC clan is in a big turmoil

    a)According to KIC insiders the meeting was organized with the objective that Eng Hailu Shawl to publicly denounce Kinijit and reinitiate his old ethnical party called Mellaw Ethiopia Amara Dereget (MEAD) and transition Kinijit’s fund to his newly formed party.

    c)Dr. Taye Woldesmait has a grander plan for this event to claim his Chairmanship publically during the meeting their by to utilize his KIC leadership role providing a backdoor intrance for EPRP to destroy KIC.

    When the two sides realized that they were headed to the meeting with a much different objectives, the KIC supporters were furious about the appointment of Dr Taye without their vote and, the EPRP supporters were furious about the proposal of Eng Hailu Shawl to announcement and reinstate MEAD party during the Oct 14 meeting.

    Engineer Hailu Shawel sacks top CUD officials
    The leadership crisis within Kinijit has taken a new twist as it emerged that Engineer Hailu Shawel has already sacked three top Kinijit officials, Addis Voice can reveal.
    In spite of the fact that Engineer Hailu Shawl’s defunct party, the All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP), was officially declared to have been dissolved to facilitate the merger with United Ethiopian Democratic Party-Medhin, which later decided to leave the CUD, Rainbow Coalition for Democracy and Justice and Ethiopian Democratic League, he dismissed the three prominent members of the party who have allegedly undermined his power.
    In a meeting President Hailu held at his residence on September 9, 2007 in the presence of some members of his old party AEUP, including Capitain Mamushet Amare and Shaleka Aragaw, a decision was made to fire Engineer Gizachew Shiferaw, Ato Aschalew Ketema and Ato Biruk Kebede from the AEUP’s executive committee in their absence. The decision automatically denies them to be leaders of Kinijit as they were delegated by their mother party. The three heroes, who are among the delegation of top CUD leaders touring North America and Europe, were all jailed with the other leaders of Kinjjit who spent twenty months in the tyrant’s harsh jails until they were released on July 20, 2007.

  25. well, the meeting has to be held. those of us who believe in in democratic principles where ideas win over wishes want the meeting to freely express our ideas and ask the leaders what went wrong (according to the third party report).

  28. The fact that woyane stole last election might have been a blessing in disguise. Imagine Hailu Shawel with the power of the PM’s office with all security forces at his command. This dictator would have rained hell on our people. It is good he is exposed at this stage. His dream of dictatorship is just a dream now. Let alone Ethiopia, he wwe won’t let him dictate kinijit. He is finished.

    As to the meeting being cancelled, Elias, thank you for getting the word out in time. They are in turmoil because they know we are coming. We will be there to protest this dictator’s attempt to impose his rule of tyranny on our nation. Everybody I know in DC is prepared to go to the demo. The meeting is already a failure.
