Please! Don’t derail our dream

Letter to Dr. Taye and his friends from a Concerned Ethiopian

By Netsanet Yimetal

Why do you do this to us? Better yet, why do you do this to yourselves? Yes, I am talking to those of you who are standing in the way of democracy. The prospect for better Ethiopia has never been better. This is a historic time when multiple events are converging at the same time: The freedom of the strongest non-violent opposition group in the history of the country; the unanimous support to HR 2003 by the House of Representatives, hence the American People; the unworthy war against our neighbor Somalia, the brutal war against our own people, the Ogadenis and the tension with Eritrea. I truly believe we have come to this point of our history for a reason. And that reason is an awesome change.

A change that frees our people from tyranny!

A change that gives individuals in our country equal footing to compete with each other!

A change that provides our nation the platform to shine globally!

A change that gives our Educated the choice to stay and serve!

A change that opens the door for possibilities whatever the possibilities maybe!

But! But, you are standing in the way. I have a simple question for you. Do you realize that you are standing in the way though? Do you realize that you are like a goal keeper who is trying to block the ball of democracy? I don’t think you do realize the extent of the damage you are doing. I don’t believe you realize it because if you did you wouldn’t stand in the way. Not against your own people anyways, would you? I know I am right because you were a proud EDU or IHAPA who legitimately fought for the cause of your people.

That was then! This is now! Now, time has changed in Ethiopia. Ethiopians are not interested to live and relive their past. Ethiopians are ready and eager to move forward.

They are excited at the prospect of seeing their nation submerge under freedom. They also found honest and energetic leaders who are ready to lead by example. Just look at the excitement of the Ethiopians around the U.S. The excitement in Washington D.C, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles. Come hell or high water, I will experience this excitement as well when these leaders arrive at my home town, Atlanta, GA this coming Friday.

So, here is my humble message to you. Our people are tired; Tired of in-fighting. We are ready to follow leaders who are Ethiopians! Who stand for all Ethiopians. The time has passed for ethnic based leaders of any type including Amaras, Oromos, Tigreans or Gurages. The time is ripe for leaders who stand for human rights.

Human rights for Oromos!
Human rights for Tigreans!
Human rights for Anuaks!
Human rights for Gurages!
Human rights for Amaharas!
Human rights for Ogadenis!
Human rights for Afars!
Human rights for Ethiopians!

We would like you to join us and support our leaders as they are preparing to continue the fight for the freedom of Ethiopians. As you clearly know, it is tough enough fighting a government with abysmal human rights record.

Won’t you then join us support the legitimate leaders of the opposition, Wzt. Bertukan and her delegation as they get ready to finalize their U.S tour and leave for their nation, Ethiopia?

  1. thank you Nestanet but i don’t think he will understand you , because he is a loser and he don’t know what he need or his plan but he dreaming if you heard birhanu anwer from dallas A&Q event about taye he said ” i know dr. taye i meet him when i recive my award from Unv. i gave him hug but i didn’t ask him about kinjet b/c his is not a part of it but if he want work with kinjet he can be chair man if he participate a election b/c kinjet is party belive democracy election so based on Dr. birhanu anwer still open kinjet for his power hunger but instead be shalqa pupy why he doesn’t try birhanu advice then he will get something beter than pupy or unemployed

  2. Hello Fellow Ethiopians,

    Please do not be discouraged by taye w/semayat and yosef yazew’s actions.I am personaly confident that no force will stop Kinijit’s progress to democracy.Ethiopians are all with Kinijit and not with taye or shaleqa yosef.taye and yosef were there during the derg regim and did not impact the derg.They were there before the woyanes came and did not impact woyanes either so why not we let them be there and let us move with our leaders/Kinijit. Trust me they won’t cause harm at all.They are a few number of individuals who are sick until they see themselves riding on our back and we won’t let this happen.We are the multiude and they have to concede to the gereral public.Let us give a chance to our bright leaders.
    Again do not worry Kinijit is not a collection of power hungry individuals.God has turned his face towards us and kinijit is the direct answer to our cry.Shame shame shame taye w/semayat.No moral …no integrity… no !!!!Finally cheer up Ethiopians God is on our side.

  3. Dear Netsanet,
    Thank you for the appealing remark you made to those who (aware or not ) are standing on the way of democracy in Ethiopia.
    I completely agree with the fact that Our Country is at a historic cross roads at the moment. It is our choice to take either further destruction and go back to the deep or propel forward and prosper quickly utilizing our great potential for development including our respected CUDP leaders.
    This is a time at which even people who knew Ethiopia at a distance because of us are indeed getting the point. I share the same concern with you regarding whether the so called “Ethiopians” ( referring those who are fighting to desmantle CUDP), realize the fact that they are tremendously damaging the fruits of struggle the Ethiopian people have been fighting for thousands of years.
    Any way, as I said it is our choice. WE still have the opportunity to turn gears are get to the right track.
    Let us Keep vigilace high. Continue to respect each other and do the right things to best of our ability and knowledge.
    Take care

  4. This is wonderful a million times over. We Ethiopians are on the threshold of freedom. Support the CUDP Leaders for they are genuine Ethiopians untainted by parochial views.

  5. Why are we blaming Dr Taye ? It is Ato Hailu Shawel himself who is not acting democratically, aligned himself with criminals and opened the door wide open for folks like Dr Taye, Iyassu Alemayehu …to play with it

    Ato Hailu Shawel, yesterday gave an interview on a paltalk room. It seems the guy is determined to go it alone on his own.

    I think the talk about bringing Ato Hailu back must stop. We must tell him who he is: a gift to Ato Meles Zenawi. What Kaliti could not do, Ato Hailu is doing it single handidly (to drag down the struggle).

  6. I hope Dr. Taye would have read this article and able to realize what he is really doing to us (all Ethiopians). He better stop distructing and cooperate with the people before he completly become a looser and hated man.
    “TILIKU DABO LiTT HONE MALET YIHENEW”

  7. Dear all:
    Ato Hailu Shawel gave an interview on the Kinijit Swiss Paltalk. He was asked about the October 14 meeting in Washington DC and many more questions. The interview’s spirit was contrary to what I have heard on list last interview on DW. He was back to the old unfortunate and dictatorial trend.

    1. On the DC October 14 meeting
    =============================
    He said that he has not called for or organized this meeting. He was invited by one of the support groups. He said that some groups may invite other leaders and others may invite me.The meeting that will be held in Washington DC was not called and organized by The Washington DC metro. Therefore no-one knows who called this meeting.
    Ato Hailu will be attending this meeting because this unknown group has invited him. He is not attending other meetings organized by support groups. He is not recognizing folks like Ato Aklog, Dr Tilahun Yimenu, Ato Dejene … Answering to a specific question he emphatically denied that no-one has invited him.

    HOWEVER THE TRUTH IS THAT HE WAS INVITED IN THE LAST DC MEETING. HE WAS INVITED IN BOSTON. HE WAS INVITED EVERYWHERE. THIS COMING SATURDAY HE WAS ALSO INVITED IN ATLANTA. HE JUST DID NOT WANT TO COME. PERIOD. Please refer for a link below.

    http://www.ethiopianreview.com/2007/kinijit_atlanta_invitation_to_hailu_shawel10052007.pdf

    The DC meeting is surely organized by KIC and the Shaleka folks. DC residents will pay 30$ to attend the meeting. The money will go to those people who embezzled 1.2 Million dollar from the people.

    I have heard that great protests are being organized in front of the meeting place. Already mefekirs are being prepared. According to live radio comments in Mebet and Addis Dimtse radio, the majority will surely boycot this unkinijitawi meeting. It is considering by many as recognizing criminals and those who are obstacle to the struggle. There may be some who will come. However they will come confront Ato Hailu face to face. So there are basically four groups.

    2. Dr Fikre Tolossa mediation
    ============================

    Ato Hailu said : “I don’t know him. He has not talked to me.”. He basically dismissed Dr Fikre Tolossa. He said that he talked only to Ato Selemon Bekele to arrange this meeting. He described that the meeting was short and offered that they come the following day and discuss, but they declined. It is a similar comment to the retracted statement from KIC. When KIC retracts that unfortunate statement, Ato Hailu is repeating it. I have not heard him say thank you to the Kinijit delegates for coming to see him and wish him well. Instead he complained why they did not come and see him while he was in Washingtion DC. Well, he may not recognize and apreicate why they did. Surely the good Lord will look at that.

    3. Collective Leadership
    ====================

    Ato Hailu called “Illegal leadership” the collective leadership that other Kinijit delegates are talking about. According to him only 19 people made the decision. “Quorum has not reached. The president can decide on his own when there during a crisis” said Ato Hailu. In other words until 31 votes are gathered the only vote that matters is the vote of Ato Hailu. Quiet interesting…….

    Well, the quorum issue has some valid and clear explanation. Eng Gizachew and Judge Birtukan eloquently explained in public meetings all over the US about the process in political and legal terms. I advise we listen to one of the recorded meetings. (or tune up to the next meetings which will be in Atlanta, Denver, Miniapolis, South Dakota or Chicago).

    Setting aside all the technicalitiesregarding the quorum, the question I would like to ask is the following: “is ONE MAN BETTER THAN 19?????” If the answer is yes what makes different Kinijit from WPE of Mengistu Hailemariam ? Then are we going to say :’ Ke Koratu, Jegnaw , Astewayu meriyachen Ke Gouwad Eng Hailu SHAwel Guar Wedefit” ?

    4. on the Lawsuit against Canada Supporter
    =======================================
    Ato Hailu was asked why he does not stop the lawsuit against Kinijit Supporters. It is very funny…..He talked for more than 2 minutes turning around the bush with no answer. Failure to answer and address this question in a decisive manner may be translated as if Ato Hailu is supporting this lawsuit. Why doesn’t he stop this nonsense? After who gave him in the first place to give authority to one man (Eng Mogues Brook) to patent the Kinijit logo (designed by Artist Debebe Esheteu)and theword “KINIJIT” ?

    I think Ethiopians all over the world must understand very well what is going on.. It is Kinijit Supporters who are being sued. What is their crime? Their crime is only supporting Kinijit. As the EPRPDF was going after Kinijit Supporters within Ethiopia, Ato Hailu and his friends are going after Kinijit Supporters in the Diaspora. We must all fight this ..and stop it. Otherwise. One by one we will receive papers from courts all over the state.

    ATO HAILU AND HIS CHRONY FRIENDS ARE DETERMINED WITH THIER GO IT ALONE APPROACH. THEY ARE GIVING DEAF EARS TO ALL CALLS FROM ALL CORNERS. FOR HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO BEG THIS MAN ? I THINK WE MUST TELL HIM WHAT HE NEEDS TO KNOW :” DICTATOR, THIS IS THE 21st CENTURY. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”.

  8. Netsanet Yimetal, that is exactly the definition of KINIJIT what you talking about peace and love everywhere and for everybody. But….but who do you address to? Mr. Taye Woldesemayat?… that is not his language, in one of his on line interview I heard him saying “people like me” he is not aware or couldn’t imagine at what speed he destroyed his personality, when he went to hijack kinijit, scrawling like a serpent by the back door.

    Mr. Taye listen to this resounding and meaning full call from Netsanet, it’s a call from +70 million Ethiopians, PEACE, LOVE, UNITY ON PURPOSE. NOT DIVISION JUST TO ADVANCE OWN AJENDA.
    You are educated person, you have been through so many, you know mistake is human but knowingly persisting is the highest crime specially against this beaten down people of Ethiopia.
    Believe me No one person or group have the potion magic to solve Ethiopian problem, IT only reside on the collective effort, intelligence, hard work around one goal NOT TO FORGET FOR A SECOND THE BLEEDING, THE STARVING, THE DYING PEOPLE BACK HOME.

    No hard feeling Dr. Taye I’m only heart broken because of what is going on. Why are we so selfish, blinded by self interest, if only we are set out to find solution for our country, we should stop fighting only contribute what we can put the best coordinator in charge and go. Never say that’s me..me.

  9. “ድር ቢያብር አንበሳ ያስር” ይባላል። Why is it so hard for us, Ethiopians, to unite and work together to bring harmony and peace in our beloved country? Where is the wisdom of our ancestors who could always work out their differences in a much more civilized manner than our current politicians? In unity there is strength and in division weakness. If you (the Kinijit leaders) are interested in bringing democracy, peace and freedom to the people who believed in you, please unite and iron out your differences in a civilized manner. Don’t let down the people who looked up to you and supported yo with all their hearts.
    I repeat “in unity there is strength and in division weakness”
    To Supporters: Please do not add fuel to the fire by taking sides and making the situation worse. Instead, work towards bringing them back together so that they can continue to work towards their initial goal.
