In the last two years you have been calling me all sorts of names and deeds including the embezzling of Kinijit fund. All that you said did not bother me as it was far from the truth and the character you are talking about in no way “is me” nor “resembles me.” To all the allegations, insults and what nots, I have deferred taking actions as of now but would do so in terms and manner that befits the situation at a later date.

What forced me to write you now is your October 3, 2007 article “Solomon Bekele quits…” where you stated, “Shaleqa Yoseph has let it be known that if he goes down, Hailu Shawel will also go down over the corruption issue. If a thorough investigation is conducted, Ato Hailu himself MAY BE implicated in Kinijit’s missing funds, according to ER sources.”

Engineer Hailu Shawel, Chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy Party-Kinijit is a noble and patriotic Ethiopian of the highest integrity. He is beyond financial blemish and blackmail. He does not need Kinijit money for he has his own. In fact, he applied his vision and poured his own money into the grass roots work of democratization and development of the All Ethiopian Unity Party (AEUP). Furthermore, dedicated to strengthening of the opposition, he led the merger of the four parties into one Kinijit; the Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD/Kinijit). Engineer Hailu has proven himself as the Kinijit Leader that stood firm with the Ethiopian People that elected him and made the necessary sacrifices and continues to do so. Anyone who respects and loves his country does not denigrate the name of such a leader unless he is an “Enemy of the Ethiopian People.”

I will attest that Shaleka Yoseph Yazew, a courageous soldier who loves his country, and who has dedicated his service to it can stand his ground and does not need to drag anybody to defend/shield him. Shaleka as the man and the soldier will stand and protect his leader Engineer Hailu Shawel, the person he has extremely high respect and regard.

The Kinijit leadership while still in Kality replaced KIL and created KIC. Dr. Taye Wolde Semayat was one of the 11 individuals the Kinijit leaders recommended to be a member of the KIC. The newly formed KIC unanimously elected Dr. Taye Wolde Semayat as its Chairman. Dr. Taye who resigned his chairmanship post from Ethiopian Teachers Association (ETA) to join KIC.He is an individual with the track record that has won the respect and admiration of our people and a hero to a good majority of Ethiopians. This hero is now being smeared with malicious innuendos r to detract him from the services he is providing his country. Be assured, Dr. Taye is a veteran in the struggle and no innuendos or smear campaign will detract him from serving his country.

By your own lame retraction, and Ato Solomon Bekele’s written response on www.kinijit.org “It is totally a fabrication of some individual or individuals trying to stir division and animosity within the Kinijit family.” This affirms the reckless level that your reporting has descended to. Even in the sleaziest reporting, there should be an element of truth, conscience and integrity.

Thank you for finally responding directly to me. I consider this a positive step on your part. If you have nothing to hide, why do you hide yourself and Ato Hailu Shawel from the media? I urge you, in fact I challenge you to hold a press conference with me and my associates at Ethiopian Review where you make yourself available for interview without any precondition. Also allow yourself to be audited by a credible accounting firm hired by the Kinijit executive committee. If the auditing shows that you are innocent, I will kneel down and apologize to you in a public square. I hope you will take me up on my challenge.

    I have read your letter to ER. I am sure you will accept the request of ER and allow yourself to be audited by an independent auditor.

    SAying this I would like to put your attention to an outrageous act from your part against Kinijit Supporters in Canada.

    Without the approval of the Kinijit leadership (when I say Kininit leadership I do not mean ATo Hailu for Ato Hailu does not have the right to do naything on his own), you patented the logo and name of Kinijit. The logo is designed by ATo Debebe Eshetyu for Kinijit. He gave it to Kinijit.

    This is not it,you are not taking to court Kinijit supporters for using this logi and the Kinijit name. In other words you are suing Kinijit SUpporters for supporting Kinijit.

    Eng Mogues , are you not acting like the EPRDF ? Why are you going after volunteers who came to the struggle to support Kinijit ? The EPRDF is going after Kinijit Supporters in Ethiopia; You and your friends are going after Kinijit Supporters in the Diaspora.

    I am sure you do not deny what I am writing this. You can lie on other matters. You cannot lie on this. What do you say about Eng.

    You also mentioned good thing about ATo Hailu. We all used to respect the man. However why is he silent when you folks are doing all these evilish things on Kinijit ? Is he not also responsible for the suit againt Kinijit Supporters.

    On top of what Ato Elias wrote, I also demand that you withdraw your lawsuit and return back the name and logo of Kinijit.

    KIC as well as KIL are disolved organizations by Kinijit leadears. It is an illegal act and hypocritical to tell us that KIC is still legally operating. We would not accept that. Dr. Taye should be reminded that he can not be one of the leaders of kinijit as he lacks the trust of kinijit followers. As a leader ETA, he would find his right place.

    Keep the pressure on this individual. They are only 3 or 4 inclusing EPRP. Let them open the book to an external auditor or audit professional who performs an audit on the financial statements of the organization, or any other entity, and who is independent of the entity being audited.
    They think they honest – fine let the auditing takes place . It is our money. As long as they refused to be audited, the is a big cloud ove Hailu Shawel and this people.

    Keep in mind that the true Kinijit supporters don’t care about Ato Elias Kifle or Ato Mogus or the so called KIC group personal ego.   20. What makes me surprised is that none of Shaleqa’s gangster group knew how to defend themselves. For example, Ato Brook wasted his writing time and our reading time with a vague explanation.
    Why does not he give one specific example with regard to where the money goes?! Beside who the hell is defending others while he can not stand for his own self?!

  23. Elias, is it possible for you to report just the facts and let your readers come to conclusions. You may write about money mishandled by Kinijit members, but let your readers decide if theose involved are thieves or embezzelers.
    When you wrote that Ato Solomon was quitting, were you reporting some information that you got from a source or was that a tactict to get the result (Ato Solomon and Ato Brook spoke). What was your role here a juranlist or what?

  25. Ato. Moges expressed his outrage against Er’s allegation regarding misappropriation of Kinijit fund. Ato Elias offered two alternatives: Independent Auditor and Public debate. I think Ato Moges Should accept ER’s offer and engage Elias in an open forum.

    Ethiopian Television Network serve as a venue for the debate. That way, many of us who live away from the DC area can watch it live on TV.

    I hope Ato Moges accepts the offer and helps set the record straight for many of us who are still confused.

    1)Elias please offer Ato Mogus that you pick up the auditing cost (it is costy when there is too much of a mess). Then we can fund raise for you.
    2) Please try to contact Eng Hailu’s relatives and find out what is going on? These people are using the good name of Ato Hailu for their own cover up.
    3)what about if you send out ER Investigative Unit to Minnesota and beg for an interview with Ato Hailu.

  29. This is a great challange for truth. If Ato Moges and co are as what described by Mr Moges himself, Take up the challenge and clear the name. Thank you Elias, you did your part beyond the crossed line. Let us wait and see them whether they are truly meant with what they said. Most of us know Gashe Hailu’s stand for democracy and all but his way of dealing the general politics seems needs a clear cut. Take the pages back and see the feud bwtween Lidetu and Hailu and others too. Gashe Hailu needs to improve his communication skill and treat all his collegues with respect.
    A great respect and apperecation to Gashe Hailu but most of us geared to politics since Lidetu and Berhanu took the centre stage and fought tooth and nail with EPRDF.(I mean in ideas)
    Eventhough our love and respect gone to the gutter since Lidetu mess up with the formation of Kinigit, we still love Gashe Hailu and other delgates.

    What Gashe Hailu should do is to nominate independent commette to find out about the mess and clear all the names who are not responsible for. But I am iffy about Dr Taye. A trade union leader changed a politician and get chairmanship soon as he joined the party, I have a big question mark??? I think he could have started as an adviser until his membership signature dries and shift to the leadership after a certain period. If it was not for the Shaleka cooking he would have stayed outside the frying pan.
    The bottom line is we need fresh face in all arena..KIC/KIL…Get fresh people. There are alot of fresh faces but fair and firm politicians…

A thief is a thief there is no other words for that he took $70,000 of public money which is collected for Kinijit from the bank. Those crooks fooled us once they looked older and wise but they are good for nothing except for their own ego and distruction. They killed so many times their country while they were armies in Ethiopia now they try to kill Ethiopian democracy collaborating with woyane.   32. KIL & KIC ARE already dissolved by the decision of the kinjit party in a letter signed by the chairman Eng.Hailu Shawel. Members of KIL accepted the decision politely. Yes it is true that ER has been calling you names and if you think it is just a personal vendetta by ER then the time is now and the place here for you to come out clean and shame the devil. Can you and the Shaleqa, may be including Eng. Haile (since you guys are hiding behind his shadow for your evil deeds) sit down with CUD delegates, the DC supporter group, and ER to discuss any issues? Or can you make yourself available for interview by ER as you are offered? If you do, you may want to consider the following questions to discuss.

We know that Eng. Hailu wrote a letter to take back the CUD leadership from KIL. Based on this letter some of the KIL members gracefully left KIL. Your group call itself KIC and still trying to hold on to Kinijit party. Who authorized the creation of KIC? Can you discuss this openly with Eng. Haile’s presence? Is Eng. Hailu aware of all the damaging, discrediting, and smear campaign you run against the CUD delegates (FYI – who are offered a heroic welcome everywhere they go) on your website? If ER documented all your smear campaign, would you discuss this with Eng. Hailu’s presence?
    Are you or the Shaleq willing to answer in an open forum any questions regarding the financial activities?
    This is just a humble thought to assist you in case if you decide to take on ER on its offer.

Why is it hard for Eng Hailu Shawel to come out face to face and say “thank you Diaspora” yet he is healthy enough to go on the air on Merchawe’s radio? Does he know that Merchawe is the most hated low life in Washington? Does he know that Merchawe is the new Negussa Wouldemariam of Hagerfekire for the Washington metropolitan? If he want to tell us something , why did he refuse to go on Addis Dimits radio? Why does it matter for him which radio he interviewed with?Dear Ethiopians, I do not know about you but I am having a second thought about these, the so called “Democratically elected leaders”. They are educated, well read, excellent preachers of democracy, and they convinced me and others to contribute money to help the straggle for democracy.   42. Ato Bruk, I am asking you this with great respect: if you love your country and you believe in democracy why not you give up (resign) with your group from the politics. That i think is a civilized politicians action. Because, truly corrupted or not you already lost the trust by the majority of Ethiopians. So, your presence in Ethiopian politics is not really helping to the way to a democratic Ethiopia. You can prove your innocence then and return to politics later.

    Don’t be excited by the support of a Mob. A mob has no direction or destination. But, right or wrong, it has a feeling. The fact of the matter is that you are behaving like nomad person wondering over the rights and dignity of individuals without due regard to the rules of law. Any elected officer or executive committee is responsible to the higher body of the institute or organization. Be it Mogus or Shaleka they are accountable to their superiors and not to you or the mob that supports you in your web site. It appears to me that by the fact the American Medias recurrently mention the tax payers’ money you also thought you should campaign to get the support of the mob. But what you cannot understand is that the American people do not interfere with the duties of the Congressmen that they elected to do the job. The Medias exert on the news after matters have been dealt by the designated committee of the congress. In your case you are everything and confuse the public. I must say you are extremely rude and violate the dignity of respectable officers that kinijit members have elected.
    There are rules and procedures of processing matters dealing with discrepancies of funds. This process has to take place before any one is blamed or incriminated. The officers involved should also be given the opportunity to explain and defend the alleged crime. But you disregard these rules and because you own a web site you think that you are Emperor Bukassa and exert to insulting and incriminating the people you dislike. That is disgusting.
    I think you completely misunderstood what it means the freedom of speech and journalism. I would like to give you a piece of advice that, in this country if you misrepresent facts and disseminate false information that would affect the public or individual, you will be accountable and will be subjected to penalty.     Although I share your opinion in general terms, I completely disagree with you on this specific issue. If you followed the postings of ER as early as summer 2006, they were more constructuve comments and criticisms towards these individuals. Unfortunately, they were unwilling to accept that they are not beyond criticism.

    All of us remember these guys paralyzed KIL on the pretext that KIL is not from Kaliti. When they realized that they cannot ignore KIL, they called a meeting in DC to limit its power and relevance. This event however, backfired, in fact the outcome was a distressing one for them__ an independent audit commission to investigate into improper financial practices was set up.

    When they realized that things were not going their way, they issued a dictatorial decree to disband KIL, thereby to preempt the report on the audit commission’s findings.

    UNTIL THIS POINT, I remember that ER did not accuse anyone of them directly. It was only after the ‘Soldier’ made his dictatorial decision public (through Aiga Forum) that ER started calling a spade by its name.

    As I said earlier, ER goes unnecessarily too far sometimes. But when it comes to the few individuals who consider the CUD support groups in the US as their family business or personal fiefdoms, I support ER’s position with no reservation.

    It should be a lesson to any leader (current and future) of the CUD. The majority of us cannot support the party if accountability and transparency are pushed aside.

    THAT IS THE WAY THIS GENERATION WANTS THINGS SHOULD BE DONE!
