Ethiopia: 6 high ranking officers defected

Six high ranking military officers of the Woyanne regime in Ethiopia have defected, Ogaden Online reports.

Recent attacks by the Ogaden National Liberation Front’s (ONLF) army may have played a role in the defection of these high ranking officers, the report adds.

All six officers who were based in a military garrison around Addis Ababa from where they had been scheduled to be deployed in Ogaden.

The names and the ranks of the officers who defected are 1. Col. Tadesse, 2. Cap. Abraha, 3. Cap. Haylo, 4. Lt. Daud, 5. Lt. Gebre, 6. Lt. Yohannes

Aside from the defections, Ogaden Online reports that there is an increased infighting within Woyanne militias “following the spectacular losses” in the hands of the ONLF fighters in the many parts of Ogaden in recent fights.

  1. Fear overwhelms me than rejoice when I hear of defection especially from the army. When people from the army defect I sense more of the purity and solidity (Agaziazation) of the Woyane army for better offensive than before the defection since the dilution of cohesiveness is reduced by that or more magnitude. I wish fighting from inside and outside happens unless the defection is believed to strengthen the offensive capacity of the opposition by greater magnitude than the purity contribution it has to Woyane army. As an opposition infiltration into the Woyane combatant should be considered the greatest part of offensive. Our leaders (as politicians and intelligence &/or military strategist) know better but that is what I feel. We may show rejoice publicly but think it through privately.

  2. They must be well investigated, I don’t believe them at all, the only way we want woyanes to defect from Meles is by taking his life or his top people in power, otherwise, I personally don’t have the heart to believe them, they might be upto something, like infiltrating into EPPF, they are very good at treachery anyways….

  3. sima Eliyas, why don’t you post comments that are worded decently but are critical of the post? Do you believe in democracy, where conflict of ideas is a virtue and not a vice?

  4. This defection shows that the ONLF and OLF are gaining upper hand in every fight against Meles’s Militia.
No doubt Tigre Militia is demoralized and bankrupt, and if that continuous it lead into a upraising with in the Militia itself.
Amhara majority who are in the army as well must unite and get rid of these handful officers and take over in a Military coup, there is no time to waste Meles is now very weak and demoralized ever since he left Somalia and the US told him to stay away from that country.
