Ethiopia’s khat-addict dictator decided to remain in power

ADDIS ABABA (NMG) — Ethiopia Prime Minster Head of the brutal tribal junta in Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi, will run for a new five-year term, his ruling party announced on Tuesday.

The 54 year-old former [Marxist] guerrilla leader, who has been in power for 18 years, was convinced by party members to stay on. [Don’t laugh. This is not a joke!]

The Ethiopian People Democratic Front (EPRDF) council Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne) underlined that the Ethiopian people and his party need Mr Zenawi for one more term at the end of a two day annual gathering.

“Meles is playing a key role in transforming Ethiopia….” EPRDF said in a statement.

In recent months, EPRDF’s chairman Woyanne junta leader Zenawi has said he plans to go in 2010 if his party accept his resignation.

The council extensively debated on the issue and agreed to keep Mr Zenawi in office for one until 2015.

Ethiopia’s next general election is scheduled for June 2010.

The PM has increasingly become a champion of African in international forums.

However, at home he is accused of a poor human rights record and oppression against opposition politicians and the media.

Last week, Mr Zenawi was elected [by his fellow thieves] to represent Africa in the climate change talks in Denmark, Copenhagen.

He sent thousands of “tegadalies” to death for false promises. He put to death thousands of Ethiopians who demand freedom or speak the truth. I don’t get the legitimacy of the coming election.By loooking back at the past experience plus trends of Weyane’s action we know Weyane is going to continue destroying Ethiopians until the Weyane muscle is the only contender on any given election. We know all infrastructures including clean runing water is only accesible for Weyane’s symphatizers. Newly housed individuals specially with women and children are forced to vote in EPRDF(WEYANE)’s favor just to access runing water,electricity and so on.If it was not for that the vote will be almost 100% against weyane.

  36. It is a testimony of how the TPLF government and the associated entities work. Look at the news reported by The Reporter. What a pitty? It is possible that Meles may go away due to a natural cause. Why should Reporter need to present the news in favour of Meles and his EPRDF as if his request for resignation is accepted as one would normally expect.

    1. Why the gave it the news title “The Council Accepted the resignation” . What does that mean? They did not allow him to resign. so why is that title given to the news.
    2. In the details after delibrating the issue and with vote, the council accepts his resignation in five years. Those who vote against his resignation if the drama is true), do they want to lead for life.
    3.The one who requested to leave is the PM, but the council approve to give the resignation for the others. what a decision!!!

  47. I am not neither a supporter nor an advocate of Meles, but What is the point of labling him as Khat-addict?. If you have a problem with consuming khat, keep your preference to yourself and don’t mix it with issues in politics. Former rulers of Ethiopia,Haile Sellasie and Mengistu both used to drink alcohol, and nobody said anything about that. Likewise, it is none of your business to question his use of Khat.
