The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) is currently meeting in Washington DC. Following the meeting, the Church leaders will hold a press conference with the media to make a special call to the people of Ethiopia.
The press conference will be held at St. Gabriel Church in Washington DC on Saturday, May 12, 2012, starting at 5 PM (Washington DC time). It will also be broadcast live.

I think the meeting should come up with a call for all Ethiopians to get together, unite and fight for their freedom.
This minority government which is destroying the country should be changed and the leaders have to face the court of law. Not the kind of courts like they have now. The job security, safety, freedom, equality of all and democracy should be achieved.
The government is heavily involved in both religions in an attempt to control the people, so the church and its leaders have to defend themselves by calling for mass disobedience all over the country.
The Christian followers could not even buy chicken to celebrate Easter in our country any more. And this was caused by the government that does not care about Easter or xmas, so the church has to support its followers.
The moslems and Christians have to unite now since both of them are under an attack.
Long live the true sons and daughters of Ethiopia, we will get our freedom and country back.
That day will be the day of days for Ethiopia.it is the beginning of the resurrection of Ethiopia and the death of Woyane.

Dear fathers I am so happy you are stepping up to give guidance to the people of Ethiopia.
It is the Church duty to serve God and fight the Evil! The heinous crimes of woyanes are beyond evil. I wish I could be there, my thoughts and prayers are with our religious leaders and my fellow Ethiopians in and outside of Ethiopia. Dear God, please help the helpless Ethiopians back home, and give them the courage and the strength to fight the evil regime, and be with them at all times in their time of need!!!

your number is correct but those numbers are just for Saudis.it is not counting the childrens who have been getting sold in the name of adaptions.it is only second to China.so the numbers are much greater than we think.

The leaders of the church should call on and mobilize the people to stand together against the ethnical fascist regime of Meles Zenawi. Ethiopians of all faiths and creeds should consider fascism as their common enemy and say no to it. The ethnical fascist leaders of the TPLF especially the fascist and racist Meles Zenawi do not accept equality and harmony.
The only country that might protect Ethiopia is Russia since they are the only powerful country that can do something to protect Orhodox christians. I am not sure if Israel will too. So appeal to both Russia and Israel to protect Ethiopia and its Judao Orthodox christian faiths. We Ethiopians can do so many things.
Although the church can act as leadership, actually church should not be involved in any political issues. Once again, we want to jeopardize our church by getting them involved is not good. We should take as individauls to act against evil regimes, by ourselves! We only need blessings from the church. What do you expect the church to do, pick up arms and fight? What they must do however is the campaign heavily to prtoect religion and Orthodox in Ethiopia and bring peace.

You are really wrong my sister. One of the great failures of Ethiopian churhes of all demonmination is their failure to even condemn any wrong doing by the govenment or anyone for that matter. Contrary to you belief, in the history of mankind church and politics are always intertwined.
So it is a fallacy to say church should not get involved in politics. Why not? when their congregations are starving and imprisoned and migrating to the Shara desert in search of a living, surely the church has to say something. Perhaps,that is what we should learn from our muslim brothers. Social activism always begain at the mosque which is why they are trying to tarnish the name of islam. The mosque is always a thorne in the governments ribs as it raises important societal questions, good on them I say!
Understanding politics is not a crime and when a society is runs by bad politics the church as an institution that serve the society has an obligation to speak up. This is long over due.
Do you know how many priests in Latin America lost their lives in the fight for freedom in the 60s and 70s ? Do you see the pop popping up on so many stages and make so many political statements although half the time it is divisive and harmful but at least he has a position. Ethiopian christians again all denomination we should stop being bystanders when their is ill being done to our society. We should stand up for what is right. Surely that is what god is all about. If we put half the effort and finance we put in curches into social movements the Likes of Meles would not have poo pooed on us as they do now for so long.

A Peaceful Ethiopia (without Woyane) will prevail
The last three months saw major assaults, by the TPLF cabal, on Ethiopian society on all fronts. It could have not come to this level had we all come together a while back to liberate the country through the same means weyane come to power. Even now it is not too late. The people need to seize this moment to press forward all the way for full freedom.
.At a time many were in great perplexion about the lack of response against the regime ,Melese himself presented a perfect condition for the mobilization of the people.
The regime’s attack on the Christian faith and on the Church of the LIVING GOD Jesus Christ and its infiltration of the Moslem faith marks a new era that victory must come through high price. And the motto of the hour need to be complete freedom now, no compromise with the TPLF.
We need to heed what Ato Gebremedihen Araya, the former TPLF finance chief, said attentively. There is nothing new in his speech, but whatever he said he spoke from his heart not from his mind. I am at heart with his conclusive statement, “you cannot compromise with weyane, you cannot expect democracy from weyane; weyane need to be ousted from power”. The University and high school students need to furnish the needed leadership and guidance for the movement.

I completely believe with what is recorded in the word of GOD; I also think the invisible LORD appears to have said enough to weyane rule.
