Hundreds of Ethiopians who took part in the 2011 Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa two weeks ago Sunday turned the annual event into a protest rally against Meles Zenawi’s dictatorship as the video below shows. The Federal Police arrested over 50 of the runners and released 27 by Friday. Their crime is peacefully voicing their opinion. The fate of those who are still in detention is not known. The runners chanted:
Woyanne Leba, Leba Leba, Woyanne Leba, Leba, Leba (Woyanne thief)
Ende Gaddafi Aykeriletim Tifi (He [Meles] will be slapped like Gaddafi)
Sanifeligachew 20 ametachew (They stayed 20 years without our wish)

I hope young people in Eritrea learn something from the Ethiopian youth. These brave Ethiopian youth making their voice heard, I wish they had a clear message than calling names but again these are young blood they say what ever comes to their mind. My wish is Ethiopians to resolve their differences peacefully and in the ballot boxes. The process is in place all they need is to engage it and be active on the coming elections. I believe Ethiopia has a better future with the current Goverment to become full fledged Democracy.

Oh yes! Eritrea is the beacon of liberty, rule of law, democracy and prosperity! That is why, thousands of Eritreans (out of a country of 4milion) flee for days through the desert to their historical arch enemy TPLF governed Ethiopia. Maybe that is what the people of the entire region desreves, an iron hand! The people of the Horn are deeply irrational it seems. These attitudes characterizes every individual and political group in the region:
1. Support one dictator and attack another in the name of liberal democracy.
2. Support a dictator when you agree with him (in the name of “this Africa, its a developing country, or give it time”), attack the same dictator in the name of liberalism when you have a disagreement.
3. You want freedom of speech for yourselves, but when your opponents criticize something you hold deer (like a form of nationalism or the role of a church) all that mumbo jumbo freedoms are thrown out the window.

Are you guys’ nuts? You cannot compare what is taking place in Ethiopia to what is happening in Eritrean. It is true, as a conductor of Ethiopian political engine, Meles uses Westerner’s model to further democratic ways of life in Ethiopia. Does that make him a puppet controlled by Western nations? There were about 12,000 runners and about 20,000 Federal Police watching them. It took a great courage to stage such protest right under the nose of all those Woyanne dogs. Elias by the way the number of those arrested is over 100. Do more investigation.

I always wish to see democracy and freedom booming in Ethiopia, but I don’t like it to be by blood shed. And that is why I personally oppose any armed struggle in Ethiopia.
Another thing I observe is that many activists and politicians’ thing that woyane is near its fall. If the intention is to hide the facts for the mere reasons of encouraging the people to revolt against woyayne, this great. But, this will not be a solution as it is not based on the facts in the ground.
